@@JayramSataluriYou're welcome, Jayram (no 'sir' please)! I'll try to answer your questions about my muraLi gAnam experience, although some are difficult to.. 1. I have some vocal training, but I use it to mostly entertain myself :). 2. It must be some time in the late 1980s. My father had many recordings of BMK from All India Radio over the years, which I used to listen to over and over. Then I would look forward to his radio and TV appearances and bought many cassettes and CDs. 3. Yes, I have a vague memory of attending a concert in India some time in the early 1990s. I also saw him at a concert in the US around 2003. 4. This is hard to answer.. some things that come to mind immediately are the flexible voice, rich imagination, and unique style of svAra prastAra. 5. There are so many! Of the very top of my head, some are Ksheera sAgara Sayana, prakkala nilabaDi, the gati bhEda tillAna, the kadanakutUhaLa tillAna. 6. Again, very hard to answer. Maybe, his developing a unique style of his own is something very inspiring. I'm curious to know your answers to the same questions!

Much appreciated. 1) I'm like you, except my mother and her siblings learnt vocal music from BMK's colleague the late Neti Srirama Sharma. 2) Grew up listening to muraLi gANam from infancy and haven't stopped since. 3) Though I wish I saw him in his prime, I got to see him in 2006 and he awed the entire audience. I also saw him in 2014, but by that time he had lost interest in performing after the death of his secretary and mostly sat doing nothing. 4) There are so many characteristics that define muraLi gANam, but one important one is freshness. You can always find something new each time. This concert is a perfect example. 5) Too many and this includes some of his famous hits. But I am more of a fan of his rare stuff like SrI rAma pAdamA (which I imagine him singing in a concert with MSG, TVG and THV), cEtulAra SRngAramu, bhakti kolaDi vAde, vAsudEvamupAsmahE, rAma katha sudhA and more. 6) muraLi gANam is not just Carnatic (that is pleasing to the ears, not from Karnataka) music, but world music. And he practiced that all his life. We will never see another colossus like him again. Pleasure to meet you and let's keep in touch.
