I heard Dr McDougall speak in Santa Rosa about 30 + years ago. I went on a vegetarian diet that day and have not looked back.I took off a lot of weight but could not take off the last 40 pounds. Then watched Andrew Taylor's story and went on a potato diet about 3 years ago and took off that last 40 pounds and I use potatoes when ever I put on any wight and have kept it from coming back. 81 years old with a BMI of 23 and have great blood work. My Doctor told me I and physically younger than 65. I am now Vegan.

My son struggled with addition to drugs for years. Thankfully he stayed alive. Then just last year I became VEGAN and I started on John and Mary McDougall’s Potato diet. Then I learned more and started to watch documentaries. I learned about Cardiovascular health from Dr. Esselstyn and Rip Esselstyn’s Engine 2. So I ordered all these books. My son happened to be at my house and saw the Engine 2 book and cookbook. So I put the documentary on KZfaq and he watched only half of it and asked me if he could keep the books. He is using the Plant Based Diet and it has helped him to beat his addiction to drugs- along with therapy! This is the most amazing journey I have ever been on in my life!!!💖🥬🥒🥝🍌🍎🍐🍆🥦🥕🍓🍋🍅🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔

Spud Fit I was so focused on my son I forgot to mention that I lost 19lbs for the first time in 22 years. I have Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and all I ever did for years was gain weight and suffer with brain fog. These problems are starting to fade away as my body heals itself because of my dietary changes. And yes I eat a lot of potatoes. I feel somehow they help our bodies to detox, too. Thank you for your very informative video about depression. I do feel that many people need to hear this because they are affected by the hormones and enzymes in their food choices.

I did the same thing. I'd go 2 weeks eat great and lose weight and then one thing Pizza and the next two weeks I would regain the weight plus more. The next thing I knew I was 377 lbs on a 6ft frame at 58 years old. I know eat a 100% whole food plant-based diet with plenty of starchy foods and the weight is coming off again. I am 7 weeks in so I broke the two-week pattern and feel better every day

I agree 100% with the bit about the cooking shows/emotional connection. I've been saying this lately. The cooking shows make it seem like an emotion needs to be attached to everything they make. Why does food have to be emotional!? I love not being emotionally attached to my food. I like how it makes me feel healthy and light. Physical things. Not emotional connection. Lead on yo! Love it!

I’d heard about this guy but so GREAT to hear him tell his thoughts, motives, actions - from the horse’s mouth. I am 5 lbs. from goal and that, for me, is often where I have screwed up. Looks like the way to sink my last hole. Most of my diet is potatoes, it is my favorite starch. Had a sick tummy last week and did the BRATT diet (bananas, rice, tea and toast). Over the sore tummy, back to exercise and to walking. I’ve been torn between working off the last 5 at the gym or just going all spuds, think I’ll up my exercise and do the potatoes too. I want my BMi to be below 20, I am almost there. Into size 4 jeans. Feeling good, but never been good at sleeping. It’s just my life. I get less than other people, so what, I am still healthy. Mostly always get 4 or 5. Just going to stop worrying about it, just do it!!!

I love potatoes. This is the only diet l can actually do and could never get bored of potatoes. With all the other diets you can't have potatoes and if you do , only a small one. I am losing a pound a day eating only potatoes. It is also very cheap $25 a week . I feel great no hunger no cravings and don't care for sugar anymore. My goal is to lose 40 lb. So far 7lbs are gone in a week which I never experienced with any other diet because I always wanted something else.

I bought an air fryer. I eat boiled spuds mostly maybe 85% of the time. But when I feel like i'm about to lose it, I cut my spuds and throw them in the air fryer plain. They come out light brown and kinda crunchy. Not as good as the salty goodness from McDonalds. But it's enough to help me fight that urge to quit.

Champion presentation Andrew! McDougall is an inspiration. Congrats and keep it up! It's great to hear a fellow Aussie preach on rational simplicity. The starch solution's definitely changed my view of food. I still eat unhealthy here and there, but it's 'conscious' mindful eating now with informed boundaries and I've given up a lot of unhealthy 'manufactured' plant-based-oil and preservative-filled foods. I totally agree on exercise, it's good mentally and for body-toning, but not for losing weight. I cycle 80+kms / week and can safely say there's minimal effect if any on body mass, but feels great when you're in the zone :D Viva la spud!!

This was such a pleasure to listen to Andrew, just finished it. You spoke really well! Could not agree more with your stances on food and food addiction. I used to think I could only be full if my meals were primarily meat based, but that’s far from the truth. I eat almost only potato most weeks, some I will have the odd meal with a bit of fish, beans, spinach etc and feel totally fine. Had my first meal at 2:30pm today as I literally forgot to eat as I wasn’t even hungry lol. Been doing fasting alongside starch based meals and felt the same as you - felt like I had to exercise. Now I walk 6-12km per day too. Down 8.5-9kg in last 5 weeks, and all up I’m down 17kg. Feels good to fit some shirts I bought that were too small that I’ve had sitting on my dresser for a while. 2 out of 3 fit so far :) Thanks for all the content on your channel it’s been so helpful and has been a great motivator!

Peter Rabitt thank you so much for breaking it down like that, I really appreciate it. Some very good tips! I will incorporate what you’ve said into what I’m doing more :) - and I agree with the meat side of things. Other than fish once a week on average, and a few eggs, I do not eat any meat or animal products. Is buying free range eggs considered ethically okay? I read somewhere they’re one of the most ethical sourced foods in the world if so? Even stuff like nuts get insects killed apparently. Fully cut out dairy too! Well, milk, beef etc. (not sure if eggs count as dairy) anyways thanks again for the break down. Very helpful

Peter Rabitt Hi thanks for breaking it down so logically 😋. I have a question if you do not mind .... If a person is not a diabetic however there is a lot of diabetes on both sides of the family, would it be best to stay away from starchy veggies in this particular case?? And what is the effect of starchy veggies on our gut microbiome?? Truly appreciate yr thoughts as always.

Started eating different recipes from the McDougall book , wasn’t seeing any weight loss. So I reached out to a guy from KZfaq and he was very helpful and told me to start eating only potatoes and some non starch veggies. So I bought a big bag of potatoes and broccoli and cauliflower. I hope this works

Didn't know this would be so emotional. I cried when you were introduced; I sobbed thru the cake or potatoes scenario. I cried at the lady's testimonial. I think I'm depressed. I cry when I watch tiny home videos... I do eat a LOT of potatoes, but maybe I need to go all the way. Thank you for what you've done to help so many people. Also, as a professional trainer, I commend you for an excellent presentation!
