In 1989, I was talking about my bad marriage to a nun, who was a licensed counselor. She asked me “what I was getting out of the marriage?” I thought and said “nothing.” She said “Jesus would not expect you to live in an emotionally abusive marriage.” Shortly after, I divorced him. It was pure relief for me. He, unbeknownst to me had a girlfriend on the side, so he didn’t care anyway. Later, he made me look like the bad guy to his family. No surprise.

He may have grown up learning this behavior from one (or both) of his own parents. I've seen that happen with people, so it's very possible. And I fear for his daughter and son, that at least one of them may follow this type of narcissistic pattern also, since that's what they've been exposed to.

Maybe he’s financially abusing her and it’s difficult to leave. Whatever she was taught as a young person has stuck with her. She thinks it’s more important for both parents to stay together for the kids, but it’s clearly so damaging for kids to witness this kind of dynamic.
