Heres a video about a Purple Oxalis or "shamrock" plant. I talk about ways to take care of it and how the plant can have dormancy cycles. This was a plant I found half dead at the store on the "death row" shelf marked down in price. Buying plants like this is a fun way to try and learn to care for sick plants. When you do this thought do make sure to check for pests or funguses that could spread to your other plants.

I bought one of them (a healthy one 😁) six months ago. Great indoor plant, doing well in my bright bathroom of distanced indirect sunlight. The leaves open and close; like they saying good morning and good night. It's one of my favorites.

Thank you for this video. My Oxalis goes back and forth being healthy and perky then droopy, then back to healthy. I usually just pull the dead ones out, the whole stem just comes right out....but I'm going to try your method and cut back the steams and see what happens. Thank you :)

all those flowers made me think it was "happy" to be saved and thanking you with them! I would love to see a failed attempts video though! Maybe to show people the reason it died, then say what you would have done differently in order to save it. Not many people even mention losing a plant but it is a very common I would think and bolsters confidence in new plant owners that even knowledgeable growers still fail on occasion too.

If you still have this you should definitely dig up the corms and break them into smaller ones because I think they get to a certain size and then they want to go dormant more often. Also they are fertilizer hogs!

Look for signs in the leaves if they show signs of being sick then you'll know, if its just producing less and they are just naturally dying off then hibernation is coming. kind of hard to explain through text
@piercednscarred
@piercednscarred 5 жыл бұрын
I love my oxalis, they're amazing. I believe they're actually pretty unlikely to pollinate if you've got one plant though. I read that the flowers are strictly male or female which prevents the plant from inbreeding too much. (the flower stamens look different--one has pollen higher than the other) So you'd have to find the opposite sex to pollinate it with.

HELP! I have had my GREAT grandmothers oxalis plant for over 30 years. I accidentally let it get frozen a couple of years ago. I recently saw a tiny twig of it coming back. In an attempt to save it, replanted a couple of weeks ago. I only have two tiny tiny twigs and as of this afternoon one looks dead. When I re potted, I did in moist soil with afternoon sun on my deck. I think the sun was a mistake. ANY suggestions are appreciated!

You can leave the healthy ones. but once they start dying I think they lose efficiency and end up costing the plant more energy than they can produce.

Turning this plant has to be kept up with tho......if you let this plant grow long and longer looking for light....then turn it 180*..it tends to make the long stems become tangled....but when in doubt....dry and divide and give away...in 2 weeks the new leafs will start to grow again and a flower spike or two....
