Today Jim & the draft horses are hard at work because we have great haying weather at last!! Brenda is hard at work today in the kitchen, making some yummy spaghetti sauce!!
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horse farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Another heartwarming video, Brenda and Jim. It's always so calming to watch Jim at work with the horses in the field, and Bree is growing up before our eyes so quickly! She'll be a beauty, for sure. We love all the different personalities of the horses, my favorite is Baron. That's exciting news about Baron on Monday, I believe you said? Hoping all goes according to plan! Brenda, your spaghetti sauce sounds delicious, and I'm looking forward to making it just like I did with your apple pie. Have a wonderful rest of your week! P.S. Excited for your new batch of 2024 calendars to come out!! 💕

Glad Bree is comfortable with Duke and Earl as Lady knows they will take care of Bree. Jim glad you're able to get the last bit of having in. Hope you had a great time at the wedding. Your tomato sauce looks yummy. I have made a little bit. We only have a small raised garden, so don’t have many tomato plants. It is wonderful to have things made from home grown tomatoes and basil. Glad Jim is able to get at that last bit of hay. Love to all of you and the animals 😊👍👍

Jim has negative turn radius horses, ah ha.😄, turn on a dime.. That was/is Awesome, thanks for explaining the details of the turn, I am sure the horses read your mind after awhile, because you are commanding real time as you see, so they know.. "The psychology of the Teamster and Team", the horses are an extention of Jim, it is not the horses and Jim, they are One.. Thank you Brenda for the tour of the sauce making, excellent.. Next week I will harvest my potatoes. We had our second frost this morning so covering plants.. We had a swamp we drained when I was a kid, pulled out the tag alder and made a crick, every year it needs to be opened or it will close up, if the marsh had its choice it would not give up one drop of water, drainage is ongoing work but the soil is very fertile! And no rocks in that delta. We used to fork up the hay sometimes onto wagons and dry it the next day to excape the dew, but that is alot! of work. But sometimes you do not have a choice. Hope you enjoyed the Wedding and safe trip to lower New York. Thank you. This is my favorate time of year, the colors are popping. Look forward to Logging,, my favorate. :-)

Hi Brinda and Jim, you're walking out to see the Horses and talking about seeing a flock of Turki's reminded me of a Story an older Cowboy told me about riding over a Ruste Pheasant, and having it blowup under His Horse, Squawking, and flying up, up and away! seemed like a Funny story at that time. A few years later I had a similar experience in Knee Dep thick Gras! I was riding along, not a care in the World just thinking about what I was doing, WHEN all the SUDDEN this Ruster Blue up under my Hors! WE went straight up on the First Jump and Sideways on the Second third, fourth and Faith be for Blue discord He could keep all for feet on the ground at the same time! I think I might a seed High to an egal I met on the First jump, and it was all down Hill from there! I finely got my Tonsils to stop flopping like a Baske ball and back in please.

Boy, that sauce looked great - esp w the roasted tomatoes. I add a touch of brown sugar & a glug of balsemic vinegar. I'll try the maple syrup - sounds great. My late Mom would do a ton of sauce, chili sauce and her famous bread & butter pickles! Everything was so good! We kids, as adults, would fight over who got an extra jar of those pickles from Santa for Christmas! I so miss her but I'm really blessed to have such treasured memories now! ❤

20:25 Starting to see fall colors. I grew up in Western NY and fall, 2 weeks of Indian Summer was my favorite time of year. The colors, the smell. Peasants were plump, deer in great shape. Geese and ducks moving. Just seemed like all the animals were happy. Doing hay in late Sept, yeah, never remembered anyhing like that. We had a fruit farm, apples and pears. Pears would have been already harvested and apples starting. I've been alway from NY for 45 years, still dream of coming back just for Indian Summer. But it seems like the climate has changed so much that there isn't the same pattern every year.

This is such a great video! Brenda, you're a terrific tour guide & that color is fantastic on you! So jealous of that giant basil bush! That's green gold right there! LOL. Do you ever make pesto? Great use of all that basil & so tasty too! Love to hear the soft clucking of your hens as you walked along. That kitten is using up her lives rapidly! Continued good luck to her! As you were scratching Bree, didn't you hear me "Get that tick"??! It was up on her high cheek by her ear & quite big. Hope you saw it later on for Bree's sake. Lyme Disease is nothing to fool around w for man nor beast! Jim is lovely as ever! Sure is a gentle man who knows his horses. Hope the wedding was fun - need to see you in all your finery! Thanks for sharing.

Love the morning walk intro into this video. So peaceful seeing sun coming up on the dew covered pasture, with horses and cattle moving about. Thanks for your pasta sauce canning process. Back in the day, I helped my mom with canning. This week we are continuing the lessons learned and caning tomato sauce, also. The hay may not be the best but you are going to get a lot of it. Haven’t seen windrows that big in long time. Ranchers and farmers out west would pay big bucks to have the hay from your field. Take care.

Jim, why didn’t you soil sample the reclaimed woods? Lime is needed big for a probable low ph. The fertilize levels are as low as you can hope for and a rotation of crops would help. The only benefit of one crop is that you don’t take much from the ground and the heavy grass keeps very good cover so the soil is mellower and keeps a lot of moisture near the top.

Not sure but I think Bree is 5 gaited, did a bit when she ambled back to Lady. She may be AMAZING to ride. Lovely video, pleased Ken is better.

Another excellent video - Thank you as always! I'm wondering if that kitten and Ken have formed a bond - she sure was awfully casual and (rather alarmingly) unconcerned about potentially being squashed or launched while rubbing up against his legs! Who knows, maybe feeling kitten purrs is good for curing cellulitis! 😺

I love ❤️ the tomatoe sauce you made , I used to make it but I don’t anymore I know it’s a lot of work. But did what you did I just throw my stuff in without measuring. Anyway I just look 👀 forward to seeing your videos. Bill an Baron work together very well. I’m busy filling spots with Quick Drying Cement where it’s missing then will be painting, they use to white wash the basement. Until next time love ❤️ from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦

When I can tomato sauce that used roasted tomatoes.I u se a cup of red wine per two quarts of sauce. Let the sauce cook down and there is no alcohol but lots of flavor.

I can Roma tomatoes but I have a difficult time growing Romas. I live in a area where the humidity is very high. So I buy them from a professional grower. The Sun coming over the horizon was beautiful.

I don't know if you strictly can or if you have a freezer also, but when my husband had many tomato plants, I would wash the tomatoes, quarter them and put them in freezer bags. Most times, I would try and use those first in making chili or anything else. When cooking those tomatoes, tthe peels would slide right off in the first cook and I could skim them right out. It sure made my preserving a lot faster too. But canning works too. Just many more steps to do.
