I've created an updated version of this video using "nano-CAD" instead of DraftSight since DraftSight is no longer available for use for free! So if you want a free CAD software check out the link below!

Great video! I imagine the more times you’ve made a knife, some things get easier to eye ball. Also you probably have a good idea of generally where your measurements should be.

I've tried using CAD a few times, but I just went back to drawing my knife designs on paper using french curves and other stencils and get the same end results just as if I were using CAD. Good video though, I enjoyed it.

Thanks Thomas! I've switched to "NanoCAD" since filming this video. Draft Sight isn't free anymore. Good to heard you've found a solution. Maybe I need to buy me a french curve or 2! Cheers.

Red Beard Ops Yeah, I didn’t notice that the software was no longer free (we like free shit!), so I looked at NanoCad, which is free. I’m gonna look at this tonight when I get home. Hope the Lone Star state is treating you well! 🇬🇧🤜⚡️🤛🇺🇸

Awesome video, very helpful! Do you know if you can upload a hand drawing into the background so you can kind of trace it with the program and fine tune it that way? Thank You!
@RedBeardOps
@RedBeardOps 5 жыл бұрын
Caleb Keel so I have done this. It can be tricky since the lines are drawn in white, but doable with enough patience. You scan your drawing in (or take a picture with your phone); then screen shot the picture and paste it into DraftSight. Then what I do is draw a “known distance” like total length or blade width... then scale the image to that known distance. After that you can trace the picture then delete the picture.

JKeetonKnives that’s pretty cool! I’ve been wanting to try out a cad type system to store a lot of my drawings. I usually draw one and make it without remembering to save a copy so I can make another like it. If I could get somewhat proficient with this program I would be in business! Thank you again for the tips! Subbed and liked!

@@calebkeel6119 Thanks for the sub man. Hey I want to warn you. I've heard rumors that DrafSight may no longer be free in 2020.... Good news is that the commands and work flow in Draft Sight are basically just like AutoCad (paid) and really close to NanoCad (free). My point is that the skills you learn in Draft Sight will be transferable to other common CAD software.

Sorry to hear that Joe. What part isn't working? It's worth noting... I found out after publishing this video that Draftsight won't be free after 2019. Other free programs to try out are Fusion 360 and nanoCAD. I'm playing with nanoCAD personally since it seems to be the closest to AutoCAD and Draftsight... which I'm used to.

Hey Mitch, so after I produced this video I found out that DraftSight will no longer be free in 2020! I would advise moving to nanoCAD... It's free and the commands are extremely similar to DraftSIght (which both are very similar to the real deal AutoCAD). Your DraftSight files can also be opened seamlessly into nanoCAD
