It focuses on the science behind popularity and it provides artists with some info on some of the key ingredients you’ll need to make something a “hit”. I have a theory. It's not exactly Marshall's singing we love, but the wholesomeness behind it all. I believe if we were all in a room with Marshall and we were "oohing" and "ahhing" over his singing, he'd stop us and say, "Come now! Surely I'm not the greatest singer you've ever heard! I'm not a Frank Sinatra, or a John Lennon! I've never understood why the students love this whole bit." Which brings me to the "why" most of us love it. Sure, there's some of you who think it's his singing you love, BUT I believe it's actually because he's just a wholesome person and he reminds us of our grandparents or a beloved teacher we once knew back then.

yes this exactly, Marshall is free to be himself without the burden of being self conscious about how good or bad the singing may sound. maybe we love that because it inspires us or gives us the permission to be free with our art and stop being self conscious. Marshall's having fun so were having fun! I always warm up drawing listening to them on Tuesday, and it seems to always go great because I notice im having fun listening to the draftsmen podcast!!! Marshall is helping to free me from my crippling artistic insecurity!!

@@TaterProduction I agree mostly with this. I wouldn't say I like his singing just because I like him. I like him because what his singing signals about him: openness and emotional vulnerability, affability, comfortability with oneself, wit, etc.

These two are such a good complement to each other. Marshall and his ability to be fascinated by everything and to always find value. Stan and his pragmatism and skepticism.

@@Edinburgh1000 You have to remember these two are friends, and they know better than us how far they can push each other's buttons. I have lots of friends that can tell me an idea is stupid without feeling disrespected by it.

@@Edinburgh1000 In the past, a different me would have agreed because I used to over analyze things, like body language and the like, etc. The thing is these two are probably just fine, and you have been locking in on something that is being misread completely. Here's a fact: go watch Stan and Aaron Blaise chatting together. Stan is a little sarcastic towards him too, but ultimately, this is who he is. Is it wrong? Not really. Because at the end of the day, Stan gives respect to all of them. I suggest that instead of going on a tangent that satisfies your own suspicions, you take time to look for the good stuff Stan does bring to the table. Again, Stan sometimes plays the "Devil's Advocate" to fill in the skeptics questions or perspectives in the comments. Do you get what I mean? It might not even be "his" opinion in many of these cases.

I like how Stan is skeptical of the book at first and then starts to give it a few nods then eventually brings in his Principle vs Technique concept to apply to the dogfighting example from the book. It's a real conversation, instead of so much polarizing chatter that exists out there right now. Just the way you guys discuss things makes me excited about Proko 2.0!

Few points to note. Success is not dictated by an individual formally. A Successful individual is a product of reference and reflective measure self assessment device by a society. Whether it is selection or election and everything else. Society decides to put something up or down. Because human beings are not isolated minds but they are networked minds trying to achieve something. All successful people stand on the shoulders of others who let them up.

Marshall there's a good documentary you might like called Shawshank: The Redeeming Feature, all about how The Shawshank Redemption went from being a box office flop to becoming one of the most beloved films of all time on video, via word of mouth. That film shows that exposure AND quality isn't always enough. I remember when it came out, it got rave reviews. But because it's so drab and grey-brown looking, and the title is so weird and dumb-sounding, and Tim Robbins is such a schmucky, dorky-looking guy, because of those things even all the critics screaming about it being great wasn't enough to make it succeed. It was simply too boring-looking and weird title-having. It needed a longer, slower process of people kind of finding out how good it is for themselves by watching it, and then recommending it to others.

LUCK is always a big factor in success. A lot of successful people do not like to admit they are where they are JUST BECAUSE THEY GOT LUCKY. Persistence helps, but there are legions of people who persist and never once succeed.

Im reading Marshall's recommended book on perspective by Joseph D'amelio. Joseph recommends showing only objects within the cone of vision, basically spreading the vanishing points apart(stepping back from the object) to avoid distortion. My question is, is there a situation where showing perspective distortion okay?

I just pause the video to comment. 100/120k dollars a year it's just... unimaginable for me. Like, UNIMAGINABLE. That's the value of a good apartment in Sao Paulo, the most expensive city in Brazil. I could live as an IMPERATOR in, ahn, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, any city in South America, actually. It's just a ridiculous amount, and amaze me Marshal (who I love of all my hearth), think this an "ok" amount for an artist to earn (not because we didn't worth it, but just because it's just off charts worldwide thinking). Fml, I could live for 10 years with 120k dollars...

Meh, I recommend The Meditations by Marcus Aurelius or the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu. Both books are far superior than most books published today.

Can we stop pretending the George Lucas is a visionary? His only good movies are New Hope and Empire Strikes Back because they are the ones he had the least amount of creative control over. His lack of understanding of the world he created and his poor story telling killed his own franchise long before Disney bought it. The only thing Disney has accomplished is to shit all over the corpse. I grew up with star wars but I finally outgrew space wizards with laser swords. If you want good sci-fi, then read Dune.
