This video shows you what happens if you try to choose your dog as your champion to fight Loghain at the Landsmeet in Dragon Age: Origins. Arl Eamon won't let you do it, but it's a funny choice, and your dog is super excited about it.

The Landsmeet should have exploded at the implications of a mabari not being worthy or loyal enough. Someone would have called Eamon an Orlesian milk-sipper and thrown a bottle at him. The room would erupt in insults and yelling, the Warden just staring at the whole thing awkwardly, kind of regretting their suggestion.

Mechanically, Loghain doesn't stand a chance in that fight. That that point in the game, the dog probably has the Overwhelm ability. Add in the Howl stun and Loghain might not even land a hit.

It gets even better with the dog mod. I always played with the mod that let you have Dog as an extra companion, and it gave him extra talents aswell. You summoned him with a whistel, and he was in the pet slot, yet he acted as a party member, including dialogue choices. If I replay it, that mod, and Skip the Fade are my two goto mods.

@@MrGiselbart I also always use the dog mod, but I never skip the Fade (because I like the Fade - the Fade and the Deep Roads are my favourite parts of the game). My other mandatory mod is No Follower Auto-level, which lets the player assign all the talents for every party member starting at level 1. Want Oghren to spec dual-wield instead of 2-handers? You can do that. It also lets you give the generic Circle mage at the Tower of Ostagar the full glyph line, so you can trivialize that first Ogre fight with a Paralysis Explosion.

I don't think it really got "off-track", it's just doing different tones and different stories. I like that, it makes each game unique, Origins as the edgy gritty one, 2 as the morally grey political one, etc.

I never tried this. Well, the accusation is unfair of course, that being the one companion who is actually 100% faithful and trustworthy. However, he is also the weakest member of the team, not being able to use armour or weapons. Now that I think of if is amazing how we don't see a lot of dog-armour tailored for this specific dog by now. Considering how much gamers love dogs, generally speaking. A dog crossbow mounted on the back of his dog armour would be too much to ask, I suppose.

I'd love armor for him! As for being the weakest member, technically he is, but with the howl and overwhelm abilities, he could probably take Loghain down easily. Loghain is really easy to beat if you stun him right away, which the howl would do.

Trust me when I say, read the Dragon age books and you'll find a different perspective on Loghains characters on your next play through. He seems so one sided in the game but once you read the novels a lot more becomes clear

Overwhelm makes the fight unfair, even on nightmare difficulty.

Combined with the howl, overwhelm is crazy. Loghain is really easy to take down in general if you stun him.

Yep. Target rank, elite or higher overwhelm. One of the most important settings after enemy grabbing: interrupt skill. Not ally grabbed, which is a common mistakepeople used to make programming the party ai. So much wasted damage if you have him overwhelm weaker enemies.
