I really missed these origin stories in Inquisition.

Funny story, I played this origin last, heard all about how Bhelen crossed the line by framing the player character for Trian's death and caused their exile. However after seeing Trian myself I can safely say Bhelen did Orzzamar a service.
@WorkGalaxy478 жыл бұрын
well if you ask me, Trian was just being the older brother who wanted to ensure that his younger brother will be fine on his own, he just has a different way to show that he cares for his brother.
@josephmort40395 жыл бұрын
Yeah, as badly as he screws you over, Bhelen is the better choice for a king. I always reasoned, when I did my Dwarf Noble playthrough, that I could stand giving Bhelen the crown because, when we were younger, we both were progressively minded, he just thinks he could do it better. Plus I had the whole "I put that crown on your head, I can take it off too... brother." angle.

@@josephmort4039 As a dwarf Noble I could stand making Bhelen king by doing the quest "Of Noble Birth". As a parent you swallow your pride by helping your son get back into his house and making a better future. You know the whole " Do better for your kids" thing lol

Huh. Ivo is apparently slightly more reluctant to throw you under the bus if you gave him the helmet. When I ran through the Dwarf Noble Origin, I kept the helmet, and Ivo was all "Oh, yeah, she killed Triam, no doubt about it." Weird that the Scout is willing to go "Dwarf Noble ordered us to attack," instead of "Dwarf Noble ran in and started butchering, before we could stop them." Bhelen's not on the throne yet, and Old King Aeducan and the Assembly, when faced with a regicide, are not going to look too kindly on someone who implies "..And we helped!"

This is my favourite Origin. Espcially if you side with Harrowmont at the end since then it's a brother fighting brother over Orzammar and both sides have their flaws and positives. Love me them shades of gray!

I love playing through the game or watching videos and recognizing voice actors in random roles. Like that's obviously Sten voicing the guard tasked with escorting the noble, and Loghain's voice actor playing the Ostagar Tranquil.

@Blokewood34 жыл бұрын
If you do, you kill the scout with the "murder knife". The nobles say they've seen enough, but King Endrin says "No. If the scout were lying I might have done the same myself. I will not have my son/daughter dragged back to Orzammar in chains without first hearing from Frandlin Ivo."

If anyone is undecided between harrowmont and bhelen then play this origin.
@eddarasnow7 жыл бұрын
Bhelen is still the better choice. Harrowmont would just isolate Orzammar even further. Bhelen will arm the casteless and that might actually make a difference when fighting the darkspawn. Bhelen offers a future, Harrowmont further decline. Bhelen may be an asshole but his ability to scheme could actually also be a good thing for his kingdom.

the only character that I sided with Harrowmont on
@sjones79953 жыл бұрын
It's been interesting seeing comments about Bhelen vs Harrowmont, having newly discovered the game myself. This might be a mistaken impression, but so many players seem to make the choice based on the epilogue, rather than more on story reasons in the moment of decision. Bhelen's progressivism is self-serving, as is everything he does, but does that matter, if it's still progressive and helps the masses? He shows no mercy ever and changes nothing about the Orzammar political world where lies and corruption influence opinions and votes, and his response to any real or perceived threat is always violence and death, yet the game seems to favor rulers that are harsh and ruthless (Bhelen, Anora) over those who are merciful and more prone to compromise (Harrowmont, *spoiler*). They have the stronger epilogues, as it were. He ends the Assembly and becomes a "benevolent dictator," which I suppose people could argue for or against the practicality and benefits of such a ruler, but what happens after Bhelen? What is the long-term impact of ending democracy and establishing absolute power in a single figure, even if that original dictator (Bhelen) is given all the benefit of the doubt as the best possible ruler of his generation? The game (at least this one; haven't played the later ones yet) doesn't answer the "after the rule" ending for Bhelen, only for Harrowmont. Not that Orzammar or any fictional place can be perfectly compared to real life, but all fiction is inspired by the real world; in real life, ending democracy and establishing dictatorship in its place has never been good for the masses or for the general political health of the country in question. I dunno, I just find it interesting. I'm playing the Dwarf Noble origin for the first time now (roleplaying as someone who is too trusting and not well-suited for the complex political landscape of Orzammar), and it will be difficult to roleplay forgiveness for and support of Bhelen, especially given that his first quest asks you to directly take part in (and take any potential heat for) corruption in influencing votes--something that played a memorable part in my Warden's unjust exile earlier in the game. I'm trying to ignore what I already know (that Bhelen forces a fight if you crown Harromont, that he kills Harrowmont if he is crowned himself, the differences in the epilogues, etc.), but the game already gives you so much of a view of how corrupt and violent he is even without the origin story. His dude unapologetically kills a dwarf disagreeing with them right in front of the Warden when you walk into Orzammar for the main quest. Adding the origin stuff on top of that makes it hard to effectively backstab Harrowmont (and the father) during the whole Orzammar quest. And if that weren't enough, we have a certain living Paragon as an example of concentrated power corrupting leaders and their ostensibly noble goals and the masses being taken advantage of in the process, all while the leader claims that it's the only way forward for Orzammar to restore its glory. Not to mention what surely seems to the Warden at the time as an obsessive, political power-grab by Loghain who has killed/plotted to kill his perceived enemies. All this the Warden sees before making the crown decision between Harrowmont and Bhelen. Although I guess a guilty Dwarf Noble has a very different view of all this... lol

Most people are quick to choose Bhelen because he opens up trade for the Dwarves, and allows Casteless to join the army and fight against Darkspawn. When Bhelen takes over he actually gives the Dwarves a better chance of survival and pushes tradition away in favor or progressing the Dwarven people (who have been in decline for many years.) When you place Harrowmont on the throne, he does little to progress the Dwarves...he merely continues to rule as all former kings do and the Dwarves continue their slow decline. Harrowmont is more isolationist, which closes off trade with the surface...and he despises Casteless and doesnt grant them anything. With trade cut off the Dwarves slowly lose supplies, and with no extra soldiers in their army the Darkspawn continue to push in. At least with Bhelen there is continued trade, and more soldiers which actually allow the Dwarves to begin pushing the Darkspawn back. The biggest decision you make for these two is whether you believe the Dwarves should stick with their traditions, or not. Do you think Dwarves should push away their strict culture and grow as a society, or continue their practices and keep dying off? This also is later tested when you do the Anvil of the Void Quest. If you chose Harrowmont and kept the Anvil then you doom the Dwarves to a brutal end. If you kept Bhelen alive and destroyed the Anvil, then the Dwarves go into a golden age. All in all, keeping the Anvil hurts the Dwarves, whereas destroying it somewhat keeps them going.

Bhelen didn't kill Harrowmont's supporter in that cutscene, one of his supporters did. And considering that we never get to see that guy again, he paid the price for his actions.
