Yep, they did the same in Chile. The US has always made shows for themselves; like TMNT and the like. But in Latin America there was none of that, and one of the cheapest cartoons to import came from Japan. Because of this, anime has been rooted in Latin American culture for at least 50 years. Needless to say, yes; Latin America is obsessed with Dragon Ball.

What a send off! This is more of an appreciation and celebration of Toriyama's life rather than a mourning. His physical body might be no more, but his spirit would continue to live on. Inherited will as they say. Every time a shounen battle manga is drawn, his spirit etches itself into the canvas.

It's always been amazing to me how especially popular Dragonball has been in latin america, for both young and old ☺️

Dragon Ball really caught on when it arrived in our region around '95, there were previous attempts at bringing Dragon Ball some years prior but it wasn't as successful, but I think that arriving in the mid 90s was a sort of a blessing in disguise since that meant episodes could be broadcasted daily I still remember how popular was DB here in Argentina, my birthday party decorations were Dragon Ball based, I had a music cassette with the music from the series, but I think it's popularity exploded even further when the series got into the Z saga. Suddenly, the merchandise, official or bootleg, was everywhere. It was truly a magical moment DB, Pokémon, Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon, Digimon, Cardcaptor Sakura were amongst the most popular anime in the late 90s and early 2000s here
