Oh shit it just occurred to me gohan has been fighting since he was 5. At an age like that you’d think he would be more psychologically messed up than this

He probably does. It's why he avoids training, I suspect--he likely has awful nightmares and flashbacks any time he trains. I used to avoid situations that reminded me of my abusive dad, often without realizing that was why. If not, then it doesn't make sense. Gohan is clearly part of a very small, elite group that's capable of protecting the planet from an endless host of super powerful planet destroying villains. Him not training constantly like Vegeta and Goku doesn't make sense logically, so it's probably not logical. It's emotional. It's interesting that Goku isn't effected, but I think that can be chalked up to two reasons. One, he's full Saiyan. They don't seem to be as emotional as humans in general, so perhaps they don't have a PTSD-like mental health issue from intense violence around/against them. Two, he grew up eating wolves in the forest and raised himself for a year or two. To Goku, survival is probably just what you do every day. It's not traumatic because it's all he knows. Gohan had five years of normal life, then about seven where super powerful monsters were trying to kill him and everyone he loved, then peace again. That sort of whiplash can mess a person up.

The outfit shares 16's color pallette though! The green over top of the black, and the orange helmet standing in for 16's hair. The only added element was the cape, which probably came Piccolo (since he loved wearing Piccolo-styled clothes as a kid).

My problem with the Saiyaman costume is that it tries to be a wierd half Kamen Rider like costume. The green over black is cool. The helm looks bad with it. Not to mention to silly bandana and sunglasses.
