Goten having a ladys man phase in his teens makes sense. Making poor decisions as a teenger doesnt make you a bad person, and someone acting like a normal teenager is a nice change of pace from the stoic battle scarred teens that are in the show

When a serious dragon ball critique starts comparing super to gt, you know it’s important.

Bulla's snobbish attitude allowed her to have some great moments with her dad. I think if she also inherited her dad's pride ("im the princess of all saiyans") and saiyans love of fighting she could be a great character.

At the very least, a more GT-like Super would have more consequences/ "be careful what you wish for" vibe to it.

I actually didn’t mind Goku becoming a kid again. What I didn’t like about it was that he *stayed* that way throughout the whole series. I think that unlocking Super Saiyan 4 should’ve permanently reverted him back into an adult, since it temporarily reverted him into an adult anyway. Should’ve been a permanent reversion.

I was hoping super would've made Teen Trunks and Teen Goten the main characters. Give them a journey for few new arcs. Then continue the arcs with Pan, Bra, and Uub as the new main characters. Have Pan and Uub have a rivalry. Since Goku left to train Uub, have Piccolo train Pan, while Vegeta trains Bra. And Roshi and 18 train Marin. And it could lead up to a new World Martial Arts Tournament to see who's pupil is the best.

I suppose the criticism here would be that not every character needs to be likable. It's more important that they be relatable. A flaw is fine if it's understandable. Never seeing the flaw fixed is also fine if they're not the sort of person who goes out of their way to fix their own flaws.

Unpopular opinion: I really like Goten in GT. I don't buy into the notion that he was too jarringly different from his kid self. He's still likeable, still charming, still has good social skills, and still has a good heart. Him being a flirt adds contrast without taking away from any of his virtues and also reminds us that, yes, he's not 100% Saiyan. He (much like Gohan and Trunks) is not interested in fighting all of the time. He's half human, and therefore prone to having human flaws and human interests. Let him live, make mistakes and learn from them. I would have loved to have seen more of him in GT.

Bre we need the shadow dragons to be fixed and re-adapted. One of people's biggest complaints about dragon ball is how the dragon balls frequently remove the tension of death (I'm not going to pretend death is the only thing that brings tension like other people, but in dragon ball it is a big deal) - the shadow dragons coming from the overuse of the dragon balls makes so much sense and helps quite a bit.

"The problem with Pan is that she has no character arc" And that's different from most DBZ characters how?... Sorry, but jokes aside, I really hope we get to see her with more stuff to do in the future

I've never understood how people thought Goku was abandoning his family at the end of Z. Like, he's massively faster than light speed, and can literally teleport across the planet at will. The rest of his family and friends are all stupid fast as well. He's basically right around the corner no matter where he is.

Fashionista Bulla is actually really appealing to me. That leaves the opportunity for a bunch of fun new outfits for the Z fighters. I can also see a fun slice of life episode where she keeps on trying to make her friends and family wear outfits that really don’t fit them. Like those drip memes you see for Goku and such. The idea of Trunks sounds good to me. A humble but confident guy could be played with. I can see bits where the humble layer falls off and he’s just messing with opponents like his father. Not to the point of being dangerous, but just enjoying the fight and being prideful in a healthy way

I've always liked the idea of the Black Star balls, not quite the execution with the whole planet destroying thing. But these super powerful dragon balls that were The Guardian Namek's first attempt? That works for me. They aren't a thing for most the series since that character ceases to exist til Cell Saga. There is potential there for these to be interesting plot devices.

Goku flying off with Uub doesn't bother me very much because in Neko Majin Z you see Uub at Goku's house with Pan and the family. So even though he flew off with Uub he still returned home.

GT is its own thing. A lot of the series stems from Toei's old interpretation of the DB Universe. DBS is spearheaded by Toyotaro and Toriyama. As you can see at times. Toyotaro incorporated some Toei ideas in DBS, like the Yardrat design from that anime while also using Toriyama's from Dragon Ball Online as well. Toriyama seems to always want to make the story of each element his way even if based on a Toei idea. Edit: Said Tsufurian instead of Yardrat. My bad!

I recently bought the complete GT box set on DVD. I haven't got around to watching it yet, but I'm looking forward to revisiting the show. As a teen, I thought that Golden Oozaru, SS4, and the idea of the Shadow Dragons were so cool.

I feel like an integration for SSJ4 would work for Broly, now hear me out. Broly has been shown so far to be a more natural Saiyan then Vegeta, Goku, Gohan, etc. especially for the case of Gohan with him going his own path instead of the God stuff. With the further separation of Vegeta and Goku you could easily add Broly into that archetype and have him obtain a form similar to ssj4 especially because of his Wrath form being different and his different natured Super Saiyan. That’s just my thoughts on how they could integrate it without it being a total cheese for Goku and Vegeta to achieve. Masako if you end up reading this I’d like to know your thoughts on this.

i hated that goten didn't fight or anything in gt, but as far as character development, i always liked how he became different than goku when he grew up. he changed his hair, and he cared about dating and women and not training. and i always thought that bulla was older than pan. i thought super either did a retcon or because gt got it wrong. i had no idea she was only 10. i always liked the travels in space too, but because of universe 7 not having alot of planets with life left i doubt it would work. it's sad because in the tournament with pikkon they had so many different races from other planets there.

Mine would be giving more shine to the next generation (Gohan and Piccolo would be the teachers of Pan, Goten, Trunks, Uub, Maron, Bulla and possibly Broly's off spring) with obviously Vegeta, Goku. Broly and etc being shown here and there, how they are doing. Its just a thought of mine which could be adapted into a new GT like scenario

I think another shot at a Super 17 Arc could be really interesting. After the time we've spent with 17 in DBS and grown to love the character as a good guy, a plot involving 17 being forcefully brainwashed/programmed to combine with a second evil 17 could generate interesting reactions from our heroes.

An all-kids main cast could work quite well I think: Trunks as the strategic fighter who prefers to dismantle his enemies by exploiting their weak points, Goten as the somewhat naive heart of the group, preferring to resolve things peacefully, but a powerhouse true to his father if he gets serious, Pan as the self-proclaimed leader the others are basically humoring, having to learn to let go of her grudges and calm down, Bulla as the straight man among them, mainly keeping the rest of the bunch on track (also an effective tag-team with her brother) and finally Uub, possibly torn between his immense inherited potential, and not actually wanting to be a warrior. Could be a good plot starter. (Maybe even throw in Maron, as a kindly "team mom" type of character who mainly shines as emotional support outside the action) The old main cast can poke in then and again when the stakes get too high for the juniors (instant transmission is a thing) and provide a dose of nostalgia. Or they show up for some 2 pages every chapter or two / 5 minutes every other episode, hinting at a background plot that doesn't seems too connected to the kids' adventures - until they story lines converge and they all come together for the finale.

I think maybe a better way to think of this is “what super can learn from GT” rather than “what super should copy from GT” That being said I wouldn’t mind if they never tried adapting anything from GT into super or whatever is next. The tone is so vastly different. Granted I do kinda have a Bias, I have no nostalgia for GT, cuz it was way before my time. (My introduction to dragon ball was Kai and then I read the manga from there). I think that generational difference really makes me not like the tone and vibes of GT at all.

5:50 I really like the idea of there being some kind of anger over Goku leaving. this can have the side effect where she's the second strongest of the Saiyan Hybrids, training with Gohan getting training in by cheering her up. Maybe there's no sneaking onboard the ship, maybe Pan challenges her Grandpa and gets to go on her own. Doesn't beat him, and maybe some annoyance could revolve in that.

I mean, say what you will about SSJ4 and SBH but I really don't want Super Broly to gain God power. I'd much rather he come into his own on Saiyan power and learn SSJ4, God powers are growing kinda stale and repetitive

Apparently Super’s iteration of Goku is what Toriyama originally intended. He intended for Goku to be THAT dumb from the start, apparently. I don’t much mind Goku being a kid in GT, if I’m honest. It was something different and unique to do, and also an obstacle for Goku since his kid body doesn’t have that much stamina to hold Super Saiyan 3 or even use Instant Transmission. I do agree on Bra’s design though, it should be changed.

I think the "being turned into a kid" plot could work, if it had been used on more than just Goku. Like say it was also wished upon Vegeta, Piccolo, and for a real curve ball, Freeza. Have these characters all shrunken down, their powers hampered by both the lack of muscle and form able to wield such incredible strength, something that was only briefly touched in GT, and mostly because nobody knows how to make super Saiyan 3 work well. This would mean battles requiring more strategy and skill instead of just powering up to a specific level to snag the win. And with someone like Freeza being even more concerned about his height, that would offer a lot more hilarity to the story than "Goku acts like a kid again", which would also be toned down since nothing about the wish ever implied that it affected the mind. Also, have it only last one arc, like ten episodes, tops.

WAIT BULLA WAS 10?!? That's hilariously terrible. It's literally the reverse of Goten and Trunks in Super. That's actually so bad 🤣🤣🤣

I'm hoping, and I have pretty strong faith given the trailer we've gotten. I hope Pan gets the big "hero moment" in Super Hero, and because the villain organization is the RR army it would make sense. Just like in the original Dragon Ball series as kid Goku defeated the RR army, his grand daughter 3 generations on also defeats the new RR army (which will hopefully give us SSJ Pan, speaking specifically about that one scene in the trailer) like, I can't be the only one that sees this potential mirror, can I? This then, opens the door for "the next generation" to take on a more of a hero role as the arcs, new arcs, move into uncharted territory.

Nice discussion Masako! Gt had interesting elements that I would like to see Super adopt such as Super Saiyan 4, the Shadow Dragons and the Black Star Dragonballs. I would like to see Goten, Trunks, Marron, Pan, Bra and Uub take the spotlight.

I like that Goten is kind of an asshole in GT, wish we got MORE of that, not less. he finally had some kind of character that wasn't "I'm a polite Goku!"

I hope they do more with Uub and his latent godly power mentioned in the Moro arc. And the Shadow Dragon arc needs to happen. It just makes sense considering the dragon balls were used far more in Super than GT.

The only thing I would want transferred from GT to Super is the Majuub concept and actually have Uub in general live up to his potential, instead of being another back up dancer for Goku. Keep GT Trunks and don't make Android 17 evil for the sake of it.

I think Goku being turned into a Kid would work if it wasn't the entire series and only for a small part of GT I mean that's what happened in other shows that had their characters get turned into kids and it worked

GT was my introduction to Dragon Ball, so it'll always have a special place in my heart. There was a time when I thought it was trash though (mainly due to following the bandwagon), but now that I've given it time to think it over.....yes GT wasn't perfect, buy it was still pretty damn good. I rewatched it and still loved it.

My biggest problem with early GT is there is ZERO stakes. The show turned goku into a kid but didn't really take away his powers so he's still basically a fricken god. Pretty much every conflict in the grand tour section only happens because goku just forgets he can go super saiyan or pan gets kidnapped preventing him from attacking but usually she only gets kidnapped in the first place because goku didn't go super saiyan lol.

I never have time to be at the what if live stream but maybe I can get this idea noticed here. What if Saiyans were bad at God Ki. Workshop the title if you please but the idea is what if relative to humans and Namekians that Saiyans were bad at using God Ki, having to struggle more with it and get lower % gains of power from it so the humans and piccolo could use God Ki to close the power gap with Goku and Vegeta? God Ki was the perfect time to give everyone else a power boost but didn't, also adds a nice bit if extra room to grow being half human half Saiyan, you could explore this untapped greater potential the half Saiyans have.

Pan and Bulla would be at the same age, Uub would most likely be the main character, and let's be honest MasakoX, Toriyama and Toyatoro would most likely go with some of the plot points in Dragon Ball Online.

I wouldn’t mind Bulla’s schtick being prissy but also being a legit fighter. Like. In her downtime, she’s big into trends and being fashion forward high-fashion. Good natured but a bit snobby…but she legitimately takes training and strengthening herself seriously. I think it’d be nice to see her juggle those two worlds. Acclimating to Earth culture and being socialized as a human but trying to play into her ancestral roots.

Having Trunks, Goten, Pan and Bulla go on an adventure would be awesome. Having their own separate arcs and story. Also having Gohan and Piccolo with the main arcs. Have a spin off show that runs across the main show or at least movies that can move the characters along in depth and AGE!

Maybe future Dragon Ball series could pull inspiration from Cultivation fantasy novels. One common trope is some form of dimensional hierarchy, where beings of a certain level of power are forced to ascend to a higher dimension under cosmic law. This "certain level" is basically whenever they reach a point that they could singlehandedly threaten the stability of the universe in their current dimension. Meanwhile, the next dimension up is more stable and basically contains their power to a more normal level again. It's usually possible to visit lower dimensions after restricting one's power to the peak of what is acceptable in that dimension, but that comes with the risk of being killable in the lower dimensions if you get ganged up on by more skilled enemies or a large group of peak-power level enemies. With this concept, Zenos could create a new universe that is stronger and more stable than the main 12 universes, and which forcefully ascends anyone that isn't a Kai, God of Destruction, or Angel that surpasses a certain power level from the 12 universes to this new universe. Here, everyone is basically nerfed to the level of Raditz arc DBZ. Sure, they can power up and fire off special attacks to their heart's content, but they're not gonna destroy the planet, just rough up a few mountains. This would forcefully split the story of Dragon Ball up in such a way that Goku and Vegeta are stuck having their own story in a new universe for a while before they figure out how to contain their power enough to descend back down to Universe 7, giving the story time to focus on everyone else for a while. But they would probably want to make frequent trips back to the Ascension Dimension to train. There would probably be a bit of a freak-out at the beginning as everyone wonders where Goku and Vegeta are, but everyone would probably figure out what's going on from some source or another eventually, whether it's the Shenron / the Dragon Balls, King Kai, Whis / Beerus, etc. I think it would be somewhat believable. Zenos enjoys watching strong fighters fighting. Why not aggregate the strongest beings from all 12 universes into a new, stronger universe that will enable them to train to an even stronger level of power so that they can fight even more?

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I quite liked the idea of Uub and Buu reuniting as Majuub.

In other words;: Reject Godhood, return to monke. Go Super Saiyan 4!

If they bring back ssj4, i think it would work best as some kind of sub form to use with god ki, it’s basically a body that withstand more punishment than a regular sayian body, it could be goku’s way of truely mastering ui by utilizing such a form

The kid Goku thing could've worked in GT if it had only been for the first arc. Once they gathered the black star dragonballs they should've wished him back to his adult self. GT had the best ending of any of the DB series too.

I hate that Piccolo was trapped in HFIL because the trio couldn't find the Black Star DBs. I would like to see the Tuffles make a return, the Shadow Dragons, and definitely SSJ4.

I can't say this often enough, but if they are to take something from GT please take the Omega Shenron. If you want a reason for Mega Shenron coming back it could be the negative energy from Reviving freezer

I think they should reformat the series so that the grand tour is Pan, Uub, and adult Goku. Make it so that Goku is going around, fighting remnants of the freeza force while training both of them. In the mean time, Goten, Trunks, Gohan, vegeta, and others are defending the earth. That way you can go back and forth between the two, giving uub and pan time to develop off screen. I especially like the idea of Pan acting as a new vegeta, competing to prove that she is better than this kid uub that showed up out of nowhere and took her grandpa away from her. She can still be a good kid, but giving her that competitive spirit could be interesting, though uub would need to be far weaker so she could potentially catch up

The thing that I like about the Shadow Dragons is that it's the proverbial other shoe dropping, the logical consequence of how the phenominal cosmic power of the Dragon Balls had become used so frivolously. Plus it makes a fantastic bookend to the franchise (at the time, at least), where the Dragon Balls take center stage in the very beginning and again at the end.

Bulla is actually 8 in the Japanese version and 13 in the English version. Because I checked the timeline and Bulla was born 3 years before the Peaceful World Saga according to the years in the timeline, and GT takes place 5 years after said saga in the Japanese version and 10 years in the English version. Pan, being a year older than Bulla, is 9 in Japanese and 14 in English.

You make a lot of very sound arguments, MasakoX! Gotta agree with basically everything you're saying. Eager to see how the Dragon Team handles Super Hero and the next manga arc after Granolah the Survivor and, even, what the fallout to the Survivor arc is going to be. I've been saying for a long time now that you can tell Earth-based stories where Gohan is the strongest there is, and where Krillin or Yamcha is your street-level Daredevil type character, if they want to, if they find the creativity for these stories, power isn't the problem, it's do they have writers that care enough and do they think these stories have an audience? I think so, but perhaps the Dragon Team isn't so sure yet. But I'd love to see them take a really big swing at it, come what may.

Honest Question: Why did so many people came to hate GT while the same people liked Super!? You cannot look me straight in eye and say Super is better, GT and Super are pretty much on the same level of quality, both having their strenghs and flaws.

I'm so dumb, all this time I thought the GT stood for generations. Even after hearing step into the grand tour I thought it meant generations. Anyway I think the concept of the black star dragon balls along with the shadow dragons would definitely be an interesting change to happen in the future. Other than the fan fiction-tier naming convention being used for no reason, Super Saiyan 4 really was a fantastic form It perfectly nails the 'peak Saiyan' theme, and was easily the most fitting power ceiling, until Super gave Goku and Vegeta their own more personal character-motivated transformation techniques

Masako, just want to say I found your channel before I found abridged. I love your what ifs and in depth analysis. The team four star Goku is more of a nice bonus for me anyway.

I'm a huge fan of ledgic. I always felt like he should have joined the adventure. He was under used and gave both a nostalgic and bad a$s feeling.

Why is there so much worry for how Super will inevitably fall into end of Z? Honestly, end of Z is probably a part of one of the 6 canonical timelines that end up becoming GT. Since Super happens because of Beerus waking up prematurely, then that might mean Super's flow of history won't really fit into end of Z since it's a whole new timeline.

I would love except Gt wasn't written by Akira and therefore the writing was different and I like it that way If Akira rewrote gt into super I am concerned he would damage it or make it something it's not or completely change it And it would give people who dislike gt even more things to call the original gt non canon And I'm just not up for that Like alot of things like the shadow dragons not all having to be super strong opponents to be a dangerous problem or the ending of gt may be changed in a way I am not a fan of and it will put on a petestal above tHe original Similar to how Super broly changed broly Is character and while he is likeable he is completely different from the original.z broly who was a savage monster and didn't have a bad back story like people think he did because they could not understand the simple meaning I'm not sure if I want a super adaption of gt I think they should leave it seperate It would also cause more confusion aswell Alot of the elements of gt discounted here I really like and love and it would all get thrown out the window because the majority can't find a way to like it like gt fans do

Hi Masako, I’d actually like to see certain things be taken from GT, but kinda reworked a bit to be more in line with what Toriyama would do. The ideas you mentioned here might actually work in that regard, but unless Toei decides to do something with those ideas, there’s no way to really know

I love SS4. Everything about how it worked made sense as an upgrade from SS3. SS3 was already too powerful for the saiyans bodies to use easily so instead of just directly upgrading the power again the tail and the oozaru transformation were used to actually upgrade their bodies.

GT Trunks turned into Future Trunks completely. His personality should be different and not overly nice

I'm going to be honest with you Masako, while "Muffin button" is my go to answer when I don't have an answer to something I wouldn't know anyway, I watched many episodes of yours with out realizing you were in DBZA. The first video of yours it recommended was actually If Krillin was a Sayian part 1. I promise you, your content is why I'm here.

I personally love diva Bulla, both in personality and her design. (Age errors not withstanding... I'd prefer her being aged up.) Bulma's wealth makes it a natural fit, and Vegeta navigating having a headstrong daughter was always a hoot. I mean, the mustache debacle?? "Total geek!" Also, I LOVE GT Goten. As Totally Not Mark has said, he's not an asshole about his dating, he's just playing into it. The Son family genes are strong lmao. He feels slick, but he's still a good guy I feel. I actually agree the Grand Tour aspect of GT was a genuinely good idea! I think with a more complete cast and a better narrative through-line, a galaxy adventure arc with the young bloods would be great!!

How about Bulma stops blaming Goku for everything when SHE'S the one that first told him about the powers of the Dragon Balls? Also if I may make a suggestion, this isn't a 'should' as much as a 'what-if'. The way this is titled feels like it's clickbait.

If it was me I'd have Kid Bulla start her own street gang. Really double down on the Princess of Saiyans in her. Sure she could love shopping or she could love stealing and fighting because she's the Princess and whose going to stop her.... Whether trunks, bulma or vegeta catches on about her secret or she gets in real trouble first there's a story there. And then she gets grounded so Pan comes to visit her regularly and bulla trains with pan/tries to make her a badass

I will admit, I found you through your work with TFS... which I think is fair. But I'm not here _just_ for DBZA Goku. I'm here because I really like your content and the what ifs you do are very enjoyable.

Maybe the Black Star Dragon Balls could work if instead of making the planet explode, whatever wish was granted slowly rotted over a year, just in time for these balls to recharge. The reason for this effect would be because of the Nameless Namekian's evil corrupting the balls. Goku gets turned into an old man by the black star balls and now Pan, Uub and a few others are trying to find them. No Super 17 arc, that should have never happened.
