Sunder lowers fortifications and has for a long time… not just AC. Lowers fortification by 25% making it possible to crit on creatures that have crit immunity etc

I really enjoyed it with the 6 ranger splash for 2 weapon fighting and strikethrough. I just don't find 2 hander strike through to be high enough in heroics to focus on it, and it lacks single target dps. But 2 weapon dragonlord just carved through bosses as easily as packs of trash. The big hype thing for me is that frontal daze that is such amazing CC for a fighter- low cooldown, no cost or charges, very few things are immune or make their saves. That one ability absolutely made this entire tree for me. When I was doing my 2 hander build, lots of stuff in the Ravager tree was broken, so I used stuff in the DL tree T5's I didn't really care about. But I think T5 ravager with enough in DL to get the stun and immunity strip would be a great balance

I'm running a capped 2hander dragonlord in fury as main destiny & mantle, quick cutter as the main strike & with crusader as 2nd destiny (consecration for bigger fights & smite evil for a burst of healing) so I'm also getting a solid amount of bonus damage from the level 32 cores in those trees & the improved trip -> improved sunder -> quick cutter (i also don't like adrenaline) combo ends most fights with mobs quickly enough outside of reaper that I don't even need to bother to open with a roar & rarely use Sunder Soul - though it's awesome fun to use for sure. The thing with improved trip not working properly was definitely a bug that Tonquin looked into recently & it turned out it wasn't hooked up to get any of the +DC boosts so it should be fixed after today's update.

Sunder Soul sounds similar to my experience with Assassinate as a rogue. You already kill things so fast, it rarely matters. But when a reaper (or several) comes after you, and maybe even a red champion or two, it can be really good to be able to just delete one of them upfront. If I die in Reaper mode, it's usually because I got overwhelmed by an unlucky reaper/champion spawn. Granted, I understand that the sunder combo would slow this down by quite a bit compared to assassinate, but no save is also quite good I'd think. So I don't think I'd be spamming it, but it's the sort of thing I'd be glad I had when those moments come up.

I agree that the skullduggery cap is an excellent item, but in epics I usually swap it for an epic dusk heart.

I agree that the Dragon Lord feels how the Fighter should've been. Even without the draconic abilities, just imagine the average engagement that a Dragon Lord has: You kick open the door and let out a warcry, causing the foes within the room to hesitate and falter. You rush at the nearest group, bowling them over and finishing them with a powerful overhead swing. Then, with a deft blow to the head, you stun the remaining opponents and proceed to mop up whatever is left standing. It's such a simple style, but it fits the Fighter to a T.

Go claim the dragonlord then! It is only free right now before March 26th as an in game claim. Even if you don't plan to play now (I know I will be sinking a lot of time in the new PoE league end of month) make sure you claim it!

An explanation as to why the Trip attack initially stops working when players move up into Epic levels: in order to boost the saves of epic monsters, their raw ability scores are VERY HIGH compared to anything a player can achieve (this is also why stat damaging monsters is useless). Thus, a player character attempting to trip a foe in early epic content will almost always fail, as it is a straight STR/DEX check versus a more limited calculation on the player's side. This is not by intentional design: when Epic Destinies were first released and utterly wrecked the post-game, players could access the full trees right at level 20, so the devs had to counter balance this massive power increase by giving one to the monsters, known as power creep. With Epic Destinies now reworked to be more sane, early epic level monsters have received no such changes, primarily to their ability scores. That is why Trip works consistently in heroics, stops working in epics, and then becomes viable again in legendary content (if you build for it). Small edit made for a typo.

The issue right now is that it isnt working at all in epics, its not an issue with saves, its a bug. Even in legendaries, people with massively high trip DCs are unable to trip anything, even in low epic content. There is clearly a bug with trip in particular, since the reflex saves for other effects are not having this issue.

I was wondering why my trips weren't ever landing, even on mobs I know are pretty easy to trip in heroics. I've long had a tactics Warforged fighter and he immediately became my Dragonlord re-spec. I had to sacrifice some defense but it's good fun and I'm still fine tuning it, but overall, I'm also very pleased with it.

Must be a dragonlord bug, my acrobat rogue can trip any mob in epics even spiders and wolves without problem and my fighter too. Havent tried dragonlord yet.

@@RodrigoAlgorta dont' think it's a bug... my dragonlord isn't having issues with trip... but it seems to have a small hitbox and I swear I gotta stand still for it to always work kinda like using certain attacks aka dragonbreath.

I noticed that you favour the warforged class a lot for melee. Is there any reason why? They have very poor healing....

you can get crazy helpless damage by going tier 5 dlord and dip into falconry, thats 50% right there.15 more from crush weakness 15 from PotF set. 18 from Fury of the Wild mantle. 20 from tier 4 half-orc racial tree and if youre a REAL turbo nerd another 15 from Cruel cut raid augments. 133% helpless damage O.o

yeah its kinda funny... but don't think it will ever help in boss fights aren't they all immune to helpless status? Really becomes overkill after a certain point for anything else because like strim said you already kill stuff so fast. But that seems to be the case/problem in the game often for a lot of things increasing damage... does it help in a boss fight or not? By a certain point everything is dying fast or instant killed etc that isn't a boss. I picked half orc for this dragonlord playthrough to synergize with the racial 2 handed damage /hit with strikethrough and +20% helpless. Feels like in low reaper I don't even need special attacks. I'm only like 50% extra helpless right now at lvl 20.. can't imagine with more via destiny stuff better gear later and actually trying to stack it on purpose.

@@middleagedgamers7750 technically if you pair like 10 dragonlords of the above build, and a couple of people with timestop, it would work on bosses increasing damage by a huge amount

Curious on your thoughts of playing a dragonlord as a first life, or someone with very few past lives? I only have 1 monk past life, so trying to see what I should be rolling next. Currently level 13 so have a bit of time before I'm 20 again.

Dragon lord is really strong for first lifers since they get so many DCs for free you can get the crowd control rolling right away. Maximizing the damage will be harder but the core of the character is very well supported with little past life investment. Dragonlord will be a hard-core staple for sure.

@@Strimtom i just checked, and i can actually trip at legendary just fine (DC is 95, not the crazy 150+). dunno why you have the problem. Try to trip with Dire Charge, still not working? If it doesn't, maybe the bug is because your DC is TOO HIGH and it bugged somehow.

@BlightCaster The issue is specifically with improved trip, not direcharge. I got the chance to talk to the Devs at the pax meet up and they are aware of the issue, and apparently it is very complicated.

@@Strimtom I tried it with regular Trip. So improved is broken but the base feat isn't? Get a refund on it from the mindflayer and trip away!

Apparently when the game was created, whoever made it made trip use the trip calculations (vertigo scaling, etc) and made improved trip use improved trip calculations (which isn't a thing). And when they try to change improved trip to just use regular trip DCs, the game won't compile because it's linked to something so deep that removing it causes DDO not to work in it's entirety. One of the pleasures of working on a game that is using an engine from 1998 I guess

Okay noob question... how do you get 2 universal enhancement points? I could have sworn there was only the +1 tome, and I knew there was ANOTHER +1 tome, but I thought they didn't stack... Also, I remember when people were discussing the possibility of a +2 universal tome, it would basically introduce the possibility to have 2 capstones. Is that indeed possible? 👀

Capstones are mutually exclusive. You only get one. One tome comes from the sharn ultimate fan bundle or ddo store. The second comes from Vecna ultimate fan bundle (or coming soon to the ddo store)

@@Strimtom I see! Thank you for that - didn't know Vecna added an additional one; that's awesome!! Shame about the capstone mutual exclusivity, but kind of nice to know that boundary is set in place; I think a lot of build creativity would kinda be forced out the window because capstones are just that impactful. Especially since many melee builds would simply (and already do) take the Vistani capstone, so it'd basically be... "What one other tree do you want" Lol.

sunder soul probably works best with TWF cuz that animation is almost instant for whatever reason

@@middleagedgamers7750 i was under the assumption twf animations were SLOW. i thought they kinda buggy. but on that dps single target better than thf, thats just the twf nature and its offhand hits. i can say for absolute certain though that swf animations are blisteringly fast with haste boost. makes playing with whirlwind attack and sacred fist a blast

Trip is reflex save so rouge types never going to get tripped if they have improved evasion it seems?. I have no problem tripping iron golems, clay etc. edit, after more testing while paying attention... it seems easy to miss to connect with the attack.. you basically need to stand still when you trip but I'm tripping stuff in low reaper in epics no problem.

Trip is not a reflex save, is just a d20 plus str/dex whichever is higher. But yes high dex mobs and creatures with many legs like spiders or wolves are more resistant to trip than spellcasters. The problem is that trip and imp trip feats have a ver low dc unless you have tons of extra trip dc. Tripping attacks like acrobat staff attack and capstone, the leveler and upgraded adrenaline can trip with no problem.

@@RodrigoAlgorta look at trip in game... hover over it says: reflex save. Just like spells or other attacks that say save type: fort, ref or will. So that's why I assume it is a reflex save... because that's what the game says it is...? So please tell me where people get that it is just dc20+ str or dex vs trip dc? I can't find info on it outside of ddo wiki which is often outdated or wrong. I know in pnp at least things with more legs and larger sizes than you got bonuses to resist trip and certain creatures (spiders/oozes for sure) are immune as it even says in the description in game. I never seem to have problems tripping giants or wolves.

amen... the roar is great. They need to change sunder soul to just be a stand alone attack instant cone or aoe type save or die... don't tie it to the sunder attack.

You can only be a pdk dragonlord if you use a lesser/epic reincarnation, you can't choose dragonlord at creation or when frist reincarnating into a pdk since their first level is regular fighter by default, but luckily just a simple (not heroic) reincarnation enables you to do that.

What about Dragonborn Dragon Lord? breath weapons... +to str and cha both? Both giving lots of similar things. They kinda scream the theme... but I went half orc myself and the racials from half orc are made for 2hf style of course and go insanely well with DL. A bladeforged iconic that you used a lesser +1 heart (if you want 20 pure DL) would also be awesome.

Go to the Marketplace, hit M to open your map. Near tge south center are of the map, hover over the location icons until you see one that says Hall of Heroes. Its a good practice to learn to use the map. It will help you as a new player find quests, npc a entrances to other areas. Good luck......and join a friendly guild

If you are in the harbor and go into the market place walk forward taking stairs on the left side and continue going straight and open you map you will see these green elongated diamond shapes these are public instances hovering over them tells you there location the hall of heros should be the closest one in front of you

Sunder is a 6 second debuff so not sure why you don’t have time to use it?? Oh and improved version is 12 seconds

Sunder actually lasts 12 seconds for the debuff, so the issue isn't that the debuff is too short but that the monsters health bars are too short! Dragon lords deal a lot of damage and often times monsters will die from the sunder alone if you land a critical hit or simply use a higher damage attack first. In a party this is even harder since the time to kill for monsters gets even shorter I found it very very difficult to hit enemies in groups as the time delay between sunder and sunder soul is about 2 seconds, which is 1 second too long for most monsters. On higher difficulties (r6+) monsters will often last long enough to have their souls sundered though.

@@Strimtom gotcha. improved sunder is 12... regular says 6 in game... also don't be like me and have the regular sunder version on your hotbar and not improved lol... it keeps using the regular attack dc etc. The thing I really always like about sunder is the fortification debuff... sems more useful than the ac debuff even. I solo 99% of the time so the party killing stuff too fast I could see. Really i think they just need to remove the need to apply sunder... just make it an instant attack without the need for anything else.

Look at save types for sunder and sunder souls. Also some creatures are immune to instant death attacks. So it is possible your sunder souls DC isn’t high enough.

So yeah just double checked… sunder is a fort attack and sunder souls is a will attack. Most creatures have a much lower will save than fort.

@drizzo4669 Yeah, I wish they would clarify in game. Like sunder applies sunder, but maybe dire charge applies "armour breach" so people don't get confused. Shattering strike from artificer is also a "sunder" that doesn't count. The inconsistency is annoying.

@@Strimtom they should just make sunder souls not require a sunder attack first. It really kinda is awkward like you talk about, and often yeah.. stuff is either dead already or going to die in 1 more swing anyway. Even in low reaper. High reaper 6+ probably be the time it is best. Also, i found you have to almost be standing still when you use trip to make it work... it misses the hit attempt way to easily. But I'm still tripping stuff in epics without a problem unless it just misses to even connect with mobs.

I'm about to start a DL archer build, it's currently level 2 or 3. It's going to be 12 Ranger AA / 6 Dragon Lord / 2 Monk. Idea is to run in and scream everything stunned and then Explodey arrow them to death. I hope it goes as well as I think it will.

Why not just free foroever? Just to spite new players? The new player experience is why this game is dying and I hate to see these choices being made in a childhood/teenage favorite of mine.

It's a promotion for the year of the dragon, since they are giving away a new thing each month. New thing each month = more monthly log ins. That's why not free forever. This type of promotion is very common, inside and outside of videogames, and I don't think this is what makes the new player experience bad.

I mean if you log into game and get it before the event is over you own it forever and it's free... and will also always be free to use for vip subs... but yeah I hate when they put something out free but only if you get it during a limited time. Like they put old expansion packs on sale for 99 points... sometimes for a month or more but why not always have them for that price?

@@Strimtom Concur, the single-question "poll" about "would you recommend this game" shows they're feeling the pain from the WotC/Hasbro OGL debacle and are hoping to encourage new & returning interest. It's a difficult prospect, given the grindy nature of the current game, but the community remains fairly newbie-friendly.
