@@TheLedyastroangelaYeah, Lolth doesn’t really take hearing “no” very well. I don’t know which punishment would be worse, but I do find it a bit ironic that being turned into a drider is one of them. (Though it was explained to me as a sign that you were so weak you needed Lolth’s intervention to make you strong enough to be worth living. I can see how that would be dishonorable in Drow society.)

​@GreebleClown Being turned into a drider definitely wasn't pleasant. Excruciating pain for the whole transformation. And if you passed out the transformation stopped only to resume when you woke back up. You'd then be exiled. Only reason you wouldn't be killed for being such a failure is because it'd ne going against Lolth's wishes. Lolth tested those who got her attention. Either by doing very well or very poorly. The outcome for failure being death if you're lucky or drider transformation. Outcome for success is you get to live. Lolth's tests included but weren't limited to: Telling someone to murder or betray someone else. Spiders coming out of every orifice and you need to get them off you without hurting any. And taking away all arms and armor requiring you to go back using your own skills. The last part is why generally religious things were done nude. Also spidersilk/weave armor was if memory served given only to the highest nobility. Oh and a side thing about Lolth. In older editions she flat out tore the demon web pitts out of the Abyss and made them it's own plane of existence. Sadly 4th edition retconned it to Driders being a blessing. But 5th ed remade it into a curse.

I never played dnd before bg3 and my first character was a drow rogue. Learning about drows was fun

Honestly its one of the best things in the setting, and I hope its never changed.

@@dancingcarapace tbf jaheira is a half elf so her aging is faster, full elves probably don't start feeling physically old until they are 500 as they live atleast 600 to 700 years.

​@@wrongchew3423Not her goal, no. She had the ritual, could do it if she wanted, but she chose not to do it. She decided that a shorter life well lived was better for her than a longer one watching the people and places she loved end first. I think she never got over losing her husband and doesn't want to go centuries more without him.

It's relatively common in lolth drow culture to slay your mother (if you are a girl looking for her power). She jokes about this issue if you use speak with dead on Dolor's mother and ask her Who killed her (and Minthy is presente, of course)

Estimates on her age run from 200 to 320

That’s young for a drow. Maybe equivalent to 30 for a human. Maybe younger, if we go off some of the Salvatore books where we see male drow in the 500+yr range (Jarlaxle and Zaknafen) who are only juuuust starting to feel their age physically when trying to keep up with the younger guys. Seems about like 40-45 for a human.

@@AdaireKrickets She is a noble woman from house Baenre, her mom was literally the most powerful drow in the world and the longest-living by far. Noble women usually die from their own sisters. Since house Baenre is very stable it's not very surprising that she is alive. Her mom rulled for over 2000 years and the next in line was always Triel with nobody else having as much of a chance so they didn't even try after Yvonnel died.

@@BIGESTblade Well, in Minthara's case it was her mom who tried to kill her when she became of age. Minthara beat her and let her live with scars as a reminder of her attempt to end Minthara's life. Interesting considering her connection to Orin (developing romantic attachment from how she speaks about her) as Orin's mother also tried to kill her. Difference being Orin did not let her mother live.

Minthy is nearly an angel compared to most drow women. There is a reason why everyone is so terrified of you play a drow. And it's not really racist when your whole culture is based on an insane spider lady who loves drama, gore, and death as much as the literal God of murder lol

​@@towelgirl21 Theoretically, sure, but The Spider Queen is never that direct aside from during the Time of Troubles when she was forced by Ao to walk among her worshippers. For a priestess to fall far enough from Lolth's favour for her to order a hit, would be very unusual. Usually if a House has fallen that far from grace, Lolth shows her displeasure by not doing anything when another House destroys the offending House. One of the few absolute laws in drow society is that you cannot be caught killing another drow, particularly a female from a noble House. If you're caught, your own life, and possibly everyone in your family's lives, are forfeit. So if a House suddenly disappears (not an uncommon occurance), and nobody knows for sure who did it, it's thought of as having been done with Lolth's permission (so long as no survivors turn up).

The order to kill a lover is almost always a Test of Lolth. Failing to do so will see you turned into a Drider, and as a noble Drow, she was a Priestess herself.

@@Ravus_Sapiens I do remember the "secretly wipe out an entire house" rule. Googled it and it sounds like House Vandree is still standing and their allegiance is to House Baenre. I wonder why Minthara was ordered to kill a priestess of theirs, and who gave the order.

Some of the romance dialogue between them on a Karlach origin run is genuinely some of the best in the game

​@@SeraCruisei just cant bring myself to ever play as a origin. You lose out on their actual voice lines since you are them and they feel less like themselves (since youre controlling them) and you don't really get to make your own since they have s predefined backstory

for real, I mean so are all the other VAs to be fair, but Minthara's voice just hits different

When she joins your camp, you can ask abt her thoughts on each of the companions, and she kinda adores Karlach and Lae'zel

I think mainly because Astarion, Halsin and Jaheira are closer to her age I think Halsin might be older.

@@KratosisGod Astarion and Halsin are older than her while Jaheira is younger. Minthara is most likely around 250 years old, since she mentions that she remembers an event that happened 200 years ago and that she was young back then.

@@sarrach94 Yeah I think the average half elf lifespan is around 200 years while full elves live for around 600-700 years, Astarion is immortal as a vampire spawn so gauging his actual age is tough, Halsin outright says he's 350.

@@sarrach94 Astarion's chronologically over two hundred, but he was only thirty-nine when he was turned, which is still a child by high elf standards. Age is weird for him.

@@jexxer Yeah, I recall hearing he was only 39 when turned, which makes no sense and whoever came up with that probably forgot he was supposed to be an elf (or that was decided afterwards and his age wasn't updated to reflect the change). The game Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms (while not the most reliable lore source) lists his age as 350, which is more logical as he would be a young adult when turned.

haha, I got lucky that I accidentally had non-lethal damage still toggled on after not wanting to murder the goblin children, that way she still showed up in Act 2 and I could recruit her
