In this video I'm going to show you how to clean and drain your wood boiler. I haven't seen a lot of videos on how to drain a taylor water stove so hopefully this will help you out. I have a t 450 and it holds 312 gallons of water.

You’ll find those top heat exchange tubes are much easier to clean during the refire like when you refilled it after cleaning the tank. Once you get over 100 degrees, turn your blower off, scrape/brush out the tubes and turn your blower back on for 10 mins and repeat until you’re down to metal. The longer burn and hotter firebox melts that crystallized creosote pretty fast. Will save you some elbow grease, just make sure you protect your skin, that melted creosote is sticky and will be hot enough to cause burns.

What did you use to clean the rectangular flute above the firebox? I bought a taylor 450 secondhand, but I only got a 4' rod with a 4" round plate on it that came with it and my stove is building up a lot of tar/creosote due to burning a green/dry wood mixture.

When we got the house this was all set up. We have a metal scraper that's the shape of a rectangle about the size of the flue. Not too sure where to get one at. I have been trying to get another 4" round one for the back four pipes and can't find one. Mine is all bent up.

The heat rope is supposed to be riveted in. Duane @ Taylor Waterstoves has them. You will have to drill out the old rivets. I have the same unit, they provide the best heat. Hope you located the anode rod on the back. The people who had it before neglected the cleaning of the exhaust ports for sure. Nice video.

I talked to Duane and got some stuff off him last year. Nice guy. So there should be rivets there?

@@codykingsworld YES, if you look at your video you will see rhe stubs left when you peeled off the rope. The rope you removed wasn't that old, most likely the previous owner replaced it improperly.

How tall is your stainless steel flue pipe. I am needing to add some but don't want to get too tall.
@codykingsworld
@codykingsworld 2 жыл бұрын
Looks like the pipe is 68 inches altogether. It's sticking out 45 inches above the stove.

Did the chemicals in the water noticeably affect the grass or anything else where they ran out/soaked in?
@codykingsworld
@codykingsworld 2 жыл бұрын
Not at all the grass still looks fine. Im not to sure what all was in it before I drain it but the stuff I used is suppose to be environmentally friendly.

I got an old used one two years ago. It’s the best!! I live off grid so it’s BY FAR the best boiler for batteries/solar. My buddy’s Heatmore boiler uses more electricity than an electric heater. The Taylor just has a pump and a blower. I changed out the old antique technology AC squirrel cage blower and put in an in line pulse width modulated DC fan and now it uses 10 watts.

I have a T1000 and i save 1/2 the cost of the chemicals each year by pumping out 400 gallons of water into a tank then pumping it back in. Doesn’t your stove have a round plate in the back bottom where the anode rod lives and provides a place wash out the crap in the bottom.
@codykingsworld
@codykingsworld Жыл бұрын
Mine doesnt have that for some reason. When I drained it this past month it has a lot of crap from the anode rod on the bottom. Im thinking about just taking out the anode rod next time I drain because of all the crap it puts into the water. I hear it can clog up the pump. And I've had people tell me they never drain theres and just make sure that there chemical level is right with never using an anode rod.
@imysteryman

@@codykingsworld If the anode rod is eaten up it is because it has been protecting it from getting a leak from electrolysis I try to also keep the ashes out of the back bottom corners of the firebox because it sweats there and also can cause a leak. I have used mine for 17 years with no problems. I also have two ground rods connected to the metal of the stand

@@imysteryman thanks for the info. I need to get on that this weekend. Thats where most of my ashes are piling up.
