Draining HUGE Beaver dam. It was the widest beaver dam ever! It was 50 meters of width and it released a lot of water. I drained 1.7 meter of the water from there!

Another New Zealander here. 1100 now. Great job on the dam. Well done! Just trying to crudely estimate the volume of water released (width x length x depth). I'm taking a pure guesstimate of how far back the lake went: 50m x 60m x 1.7m = 5,100 m3. That's a decent size volume of water to send downstream for such a small catchment. Your videos are always interesting to watch. Beavers really are the kings of dam building in the animal world.

I like how much of the material you removed from the front of the dam before releasing the water. As the water flows around the end of the dam beaver make the dam longer. Have you tried using inner tube patches on the boots, ? With water gone you can see how the beaver turn a small stream into a big pond amazing engineers and builders.
@jonduggan7433
@jonduggan7433 3 ай бұрын
What about a couple pieces of rebar welded into a grappling hook, a long length of rope and a come along. Hook the branches at the bottom of the dam on the deep side, tie off to a large tree downstream a way then winch it in with the come along to pull branches out, thus weakening the dam and causing a collapse. You'll still need to use shovels and rakes , but it might speed the process up a bit. Just a thought...........

I always have an image in my head of a beaver further downstream that’s built a dam, they are surveying their work when your flood appears on the horizon, they are either delighted at the amount of water filling their pool or they are saying to themselves ‘where the f did that come from?’. 😀

The surrounding area appears to be a very young forest, mostly young saplings. Was this former farmland? People unfamiliar with beaver dams do not realize the beavers build by pushing mud up between the sticks, which becomes the woodland equivalent of concrete. On the other hand, that's why they invented mini excavators, and why so many are sold in Canada. 🤔
