There are times like these when I am grateful for KZfaq. One of my chickens has a bad case of sour crop and while doing research on how to help her, I found this video and your channel. I spent the whole evening binge-watching your “city-boy in the country” videos. I am envious of you and your partner, who are living your dreams-and your truth-in harmony with nature. I know this video is older but I’m frantically looking for help online. I did this exact method and some solid chunks were coming out enough to block her airway. She went limp and nearly died but I quickly cleared her beak of enough of the debris to get her breathing again. To anyone reading this BEWARE this might happen. I’m hoping the yogurt and cider solution helps fight the bacteria after the last purge. Thanks for posting this!

I do hope you gave her breaks to BREATHE. This can be forgotten. I'm sorry your baby is going through this and I'm glad she has a keeper who cares and is willing to do what is necessary! Good luck! Hope she feels better soon!

Oh my god thank you so much for sharing your video, my poor girl, I got home from being gone for part of the weekend and visually seen her crop huge, I’ve googled sour crop impacted crops and come a cross your video, went out felt how watery it was and tried, took about 10 minutes of Massaging it and holding her down and nasty stuff just started pouring out, I did it for about 30 minutes with breaks in between and it’s so much smaller now, she up and walking around and drinking ❤

This just helped me help my chicken and she is so much better...thank you!

This is the first video I've found where just one person alone does the deed. Most of them say you need a friend to help, and also they turn the chicken upside down. This seems like a much kinder and gentler way to achieve the same result, and I'm very grateful you shared the video (and so, I suspect, is my chicken!)

I love your content! My chicken is suffering with this now. Urgent question: how do you keep the chicken from aspirating? Is it that as long as you keep her upside down, her windpipe is safe? Can you let her have any breaths between her bouts of expelling it?

How long did she have it before you realized what it was?did you give her anything to help her throw up? I gave my lime juice and he threw up some stuff the other night, but his crop was back full the other day. He’s been like this for two weeks, but I didn’t realize what it was I thought it was maybe an upper respiratory infection. I have him isolated in the house, limiting his eating almost. His poop is mostly normal with some watery, which is better than what it was because he was barely pooping before I am giving him Makazole twice a day.. he is so sweet, but he is so stubborn. He does not like the plain Greek yogurt. However, I am giving him flock leader which is probiotic and prebiotic with oregano and electrolytes in his water as a supplement. he still seems to be pretty perky & full of life since I started treatment..Although sometimes he gets to where he looks like he’s powering down.he still was mating and crowing before I isolated him. he was a rehome. I got him approximately 2 1/2 weeks ago and then right after I got him he ended up getting sour crop.im a new chicken mom.. this video helped me as well as others to identify how to make him throw up.. I just pray that I’m doing all the right things for him. I wish I had known what this was before 12 days passed by..

My chicken has been sleeping not eating and getting pecked if she tries. She’s already old and super weak o picked her up to get her out of the cold and she regurgitated liquid. Looked at her crop and it is full so my turn🤞🏼

How long did you have her upside down?

My chicken I have figured out has eaten to much sand. I read where you can use sand in their run, would not “advise that” . I have been working with my one chicken going on 2 days. Kept her empty and gave her epson salts water to clean her out, so far she still had sand in her crop. I have been messaging her crop almost every hour, it gets hard if I don’t do that to keep it loose. She is passing some sand. I am going to try today to keep her going poor thing is getting hungry. I tried to call my vet but he don’t treat chickens, very sad. I pray my girl makes it. I gave her water with probiotic and electrolytes yesterday. Last evening she had a lot of fluid build up so I drained her just trying to keep her going till I can work the sand out. Sometimes I feel more humane to put her to sleep doubt a vet does that either. My first time with having chickens so I am new but I would not advise anyone to use sand with chickens.

How do you know when the crop needs to be drained?

I read not to keep them tilted for more than 2 seconds, due to possibility of aspirating? Any idea how long a typical 'purge' takes to complete? I'm dealing w/my 1st Sour Crop. Vet did not have her empty crop completely??? Said this was his 1st Sour Crop & to keep him informed. Gave me meds for daily shots (7days) & another antibiotic. Did not notice before commenting, but was wondering if you have water, ACV, etc recipe in description? Thanks much for vid. Wish husband would stop getting animals I know nothing about. Especially when it comes to their med care. And, of course, no one we know 'knows anyone &/or knows' what to do to help. I know I hate feeling helpless!
