Perfect comment! He has opened such a pandora's box of gifts for us on not only this channel, but Bypoeleur and his patreon - including his own music. Ptx is just one layer of bricks in the walls of this house - DramaSydE's love of music and the craft of it all along with his over all knowledge is the foundation of this place we come to enjoy this art with each other.

Hey Mike! Us Pentaholics become Pentaholics because Pentatonix are music fanatics and never become complacent in what they do. They know if it wasn't for the fans love of their music, many things associated with them now would never have existed. But that isn't what motivates them for success; Love is what drives them: Passion for music, love for each (Their chemistry is rare) other, Love of their families, Love and appreciation of their fans AND all of them are so talented. It's as if they were meant to be together. I absolutely love your reactions and consider your house was also was built for us fans to come visit you.

I totally know what you mean. There's been several times when I've heard they did a cover of something and I think "Hmm, I probably won't like this one much, 'cos I don't care for the original at all..." and then I hear their version and I love it! You're one of the best reactors out there, please keep on being you!

The amazing thing to me is that they did not hear each other sing their parts and they still sounded perfect. Kevin did a Q and A about the album and videos. Here is the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jLpxfLmVzrDXm3U.html As for everything you said...I love coming to your channel. You have as much love, respect, and awe of them as I and probably most pentaholics do. You appreciate them so much. I must confess for a long time I wouldn't listen to Home Free or any of the other acapella groups. Just recently I listened to to one home free song and I totally agree with you that Pentatonix is on another level. Thank you so much for not letting negative comments discourage you out of reacting to Pentatonix. You are awesome and as other people said I will keep coming back to your Channel no matter what. Thanks again for continuing to do this. it brightens my day when you do.

It was the PTX reactions that led me here, and the "oldies"/classic rock reactions were a joy to see turn up (I'm an "oldie" myself... that was my era!), and being exposed to genres and artists I might not have otherwise encountered is a big part of the appeal of reactors. You put out great content here (and on ByPoeleur) and it's definitely kept me hooked. Keep doing what you do!

I’ll be the first to say that when it comes to current music, if Pentatonix hasn’t covered it, I probably have never heard it LOL. (My music era is 90s/early 2000s - my middle school/high school/college days, but I still rock out to 80s and earlier)

I’m not a musician, but it feels to me as if the difference between PTX and HF (and the other groups) comes down to the intangibles. We all agree that all of the groups are made up of talented people. And for all that they do essentially the same thing, trying to make direct comparisons is like comparing apples, oranges and bananas. And yet...why does PTX have 18 million subscribers and HF 1 million? Marketing/ambition probably plays a part. And yet I truly think that Scott & Kevin (and arranger Ben Bram) are musical geniuses. And I don’t use that term lightly. At the end of the day, I prefer country music to pop. And yet I’ll always choose to listen to PTX over HF, because there’s that *something* in a PTX song that I can’t find elsewhere. Hopefully that was coherent. It’s late and words are starting to elude me.

They didn't really start with marketing. They were dropped from the label that they won when they won The Sing-Off in 2011 the very next week. They started putting videos on KZfaq and got patrons to back them so they can make videos after the money that they won went to buying equipment to record themselves and upload things. They use the money from patrons to make the music videos they did and they knocked on a lot of doors and were told no over and over and over again. By the time RCA sign them they had already put out the music video that would win them their first Grammy but that was four years after they won The Sing-Off. They used the KZfaq platform and work at a frenetic pace which was why Avi burned out. He said the reason they were as successful as they were was because of how hard they work all the time. They never take a break and because of that they don't get to see family except on Christmas and that's just one day. Even that who's only been here for a couple of years said he's used to only being home three days a year and being in quarantine is making them not know what to do with themselves so they made an EP from their houses in quarantine. They had to learn how to use software they didn't know how to use and they had to buy equipment in order to do this and they had no vocal producers or anybody with them when they recorded it and made their sets and did their Lighting on their own. Pentatonix is Mission has always been for other groups to do the same thing they're doing and be mainstream because they believe in acapella! They're rooting for every single group out there that's doing this. And so am I! I just think there's a special thing they have that makes the ideas they come up with sound better than the original often times. It's the thing of sounding like there's instruments playing as well. I don't know I don't think marketing had nothing to do with it cuz they had to start from the ground up and they've been told no no no no no and they just kept knocking on doors and putting up their own EP's, which didn't sell very well , from Patron donations. Daft Punk medley was the first thing that really made a difference for them and they had such little money they used the corner Pharmacy to buy cheap cosmetic contact lenses and filmed it a bathroom and a kitchen in their own Apartments with their producer Ben Brown that was Scott's college friend. They only spent a few hundred dollars on that video and it won them a Grammy. They just have something going on with how they think and then how they deliver what their idea is. It's a lot of hard work because they definitely didn't have smooth sailing
@kristinhowk8231

I never said their success was *only* due to marketing, I said that it, along with ambition was one of the factors that help to explain the gap in the number of subscribers the two groups have. Song selection, timing, workaholism, etc are other factors. Would PTX have been nominated for a Grammy for Daft Punk if they hadn’t been signed to a label who believed in them? I doubt it. And I get the impression that HF has struggled more with label support than PTX has (I think HF created their own label a couple years ago?? And I like what they’ve done the last couple years more than I like their early stuff.) And HF released 4 or 5 songs recorded and filmed during quarantine before PTX announced their At Home EP, so both groups had to deal with the same issues. In terms of pure vocal skill, I’m not going to claim one group is better than the other, because I don’t have the musical knowledge to dare to judge them at that level. They all sound good. My personal impressions of the groups are: PTX: self proclaimed choir nerds, they are all about the music and always up for a challenge; HF: country boys bring that charm as well as skill; VP: fun and entertaining, nowhere near the intensity or consistency of the others (despite Geoff being my favorite bass), perhaps because they haven’t had a set of members “click’ together; Voctave: pure audible perfection, chamber choir style. But other than the apples, oranges, banana, and strawberry stylistic differences, what sets PTX apart? Why are they the only ones with Grammys and chart toppers? In my opinion, it’s because of the combo of Scott, Kevin and Ben. Maybe I’m missing something about the other groups, it’s very possible. But while talented vocalists are a dime a dozen, and talented musicians can be found fairly easily (remember that PTX sorted through 80 applicants for bass while searching for Avi’s replacement), musical genius is much more rare. Kevin is absolutely, no question about it, a musical genius. Scott is as much a businessman as musician, and is very much the driving force of the group. Ben Bram, in addition to working with Scott to found PTX, has worked on all Hollywood based a cappella projects in the past decade, including the Sing-Off, Glee and the Pitch Perfect movies.

I get what you are saying. Self marketing. Scott once said "never say no" they did foreign car commercials. Sang in an airport, private company events where they were ignored. And an interview at nearly every towns radio station when they toured. They never let a week go by where they didn't interact in some way with their fans. They made the fans feel like friends. And you will support your friends.

I mean......I can think of several reasons why PTX is more commercially popular just off the top of my head. You had the combination of five young people who were all supremely talented in their own rights who happened to come together. In particular, one of the best tenor and bass singers in the world, plus Kevin who really took beatboxing in acapella to a whole new level. Then Scott and Ben, who were able to mastermind their arrangements; taking modern songs people recognize and making them even better. Then not to mention the trio's harmonies (Mitch and Kirstin's blend specifically). But I think the really key thing is that PTX's members are just more interesting to watch/follow as individuals; they are each so different and yet they manage to get along. Each member kind of has their own section of fans, and not just for their voices, but their personalities as well. They've shared more with their fans about their lives/behind the scenes and interacted with fans on social media since the start. We as fans really were able to connect with them on a level that most other musicians don't allow their fans to do. And then it would be silly to discount Superfruit and the huge fanbase they developed on that channel. Home Free is supremely talented, but not everyone appreciates or seeks out country music, and they are really missing out on the big demographic of young people on social media. (I do think their genre of music is a HUGE part of this. PTX covers are very accessible to anyone who listens to any current music.)

@@kristinhowk8231 And reading your second comment....I think you're very much undervaluing Mitch & Avi. Both arguably have the biggest (individual) fan bases out of PTX. Which they should....I think they each can be counted as one of the best countertenor & bass voices in the music industry around the world. To have had both such unique, incredible voices in one group is very, very rare.
