This match had it all! The variety of Dimitrov's game makes his big match victories so much more exciting to watch compared to even higher ranked players in my opinion. Keep being aggressive with that forehand Grigor!

Great game... This has always been expected from Dimitrov, his talent is higher than his ranking. Happy to see him win his own battles. Medvedev is always tough and consistent, no one sells a victory more dearly than him.

Dimitrov is playing like a top 10 right now, and with some minor tweaks, can really make some deep runs in majors imo. Great to see in an older player.

A great contest played by two gentlemen of the sport that really lead by example, Dimi has been stringing some big wins lately and people say its due to other players dropping in form but not on this occasion, Medvedev has been in great form for a while and fought gallantly to the end. What a match of tennis by these legends!

Dimitrov using his slice backhand beautifully here. It's been one of the historical weaknesses for Medvedev - such a tall man is never going to be as effective on low bouncing slice shots. It's the way both Thiem and Nadal have beaten Medvedev in the past, and one of the reasons Tsitsipas has struggled with Medvedev, because his slice backhand is very poor.

Lately I have begun to re-evaluate him. While I appreciated Nishikori's and Raonic's achievements, I didn't think much of him. He was too inconsistent and I perceived him as a "lucky boy" like Ruud is now. However, I was pleased to see him beat a champion like this, and the quality of his play has not declined much. He won the ATP Finals and Cincinnati. Both were, in my view, easy draws that have been rare in recent years. I hope he beats the champions and wins the tournament without question.

true, but having in mind that everyone above him gets easy draws this year, 2023 more than makes up for it that 2017. I think there's a big change in Grigor's coaching team as well with Delgado - and he has a lot more weapons in his play.

Awesome match! Watched it live on tv (the crowd 100% got their money's worth even with the yah-boo'ing of Medvedev (stupidly! Given how good the game was going to be!). The commentators absolutely LOVED this match and they were not wrong, either: It was brilliant, brilliant tennis: No exaggeration unlike the majority of millenial communication: This time it really was phenomenal tennis to enjoy eg one rally was 47 shots!

Dimitrov's tennis skills and techniques are at the top tier. You can find a lot of classic stuff in his play. However, in the modern ATP tour, power, wicked spin, high speed of play and high ball speed dominate the scene. Put-away shots and high ball speed blast the player out of court in matches. His racquet is flexible (more control and dwell time but less put-away power) and it has a spin pattern (ie. 16x18 or 18x16, not inclined to very flat play). His style is control and crafting the points. The gear set-up is physically demanding to use. The opponents using stiffer and more modern gear set-up can have blasting shots (some easy points), short points and take time away from players with more classic play-style (take time away from them to prepare for the shots, usually need long & full swings).

Daniil was so visually worn out, he was not moving that well. Also, his first serve % speaks volumes too. It plummeted today so bad to less than 60% and it was about 45% in the first set. I’m not even talking about 8 double faults which some of them leading to losing serve. Definitely not a Daniil-like performance, you can’t win matches where one of your biggest weapons is not there at all; but great effort in the second and third set. Hope to see him in his best form in a few weeks! Dimitrov though showed a terrific performance, he stayed composed even after dropping 8 match point opportunities. He’s raised his level in crunch moments and deserved the win today! Hope he will keep this momentum going

Dimitrov should've closed the match at 5-3 Ad-in. he was slicing too much hoping an Unforced Error from Daniil but Danill stood tall. you can't rely on UE with a consistency beast like Daniil Opportunity guys not just Consistency. Dimitrov should've taken more risks to finish the point. he must seal The Opportunities!

The Wawrinka type of peak is what i've been thinking and hoping for Dimitrov for years. He has the game and now looks confident. One deep slam run can make him even more confident and with no Fedal and Djoker at the end of his career, he may steal a slam or two

Grigor is getting mentally better and better week by week, it's fantastic to see. We've been waiting so long for this. He's beaten Alcaraz, now Medvedev which is an even bigger achievement imo. It's just brilliant to watch him play these epic points. He's so good at the net. (I didn't get to see the whole match unfortunately.)
