There is ABSOLUTELY ZERO EXCUSE for going wrong way around the round a bout!! He should have cut back in front of the traffic sat at the ATS and done the normal way around the roundabout. Time difference? And or saving? 10-15 seconds to a single minute maximum He’s a very lucky driver to get a dismissed case

Absol-frelling-lutely. I've never seen a responder use an exemption to join a roundabout via an exit, never mind try to use one to go counterclockwise through a roundabout.

Unless, of course, it was you or one of your loved ones who was in danger, and those '10-15 seconds to a single minute' that you mention were the difference between life and death. Would you care how the ambulance drove on it's way to you then?

I think the charge for driving the wrong way round the roundabout was fair, he could have taken the roundabout correctly after driving on the wrong side of the road to avoid traffic.

Exactly. All I can assume is maybe his sat nav system directed him that way or he simply got confused. Its very difficult to be judge and jury on something like this because the person main goal was to save someone's life but he could of taken a life with that driving. Personally I would of just given them a strong word and leave it at that.

If driving the wrong way round a roundabout was declared illegal then driving on the wrong side on the approach to the roundabout would be as well. Why is driving anticlockwise round a roundabout considered wrong but an emergency vehicle driving the wrong way on a one way street isn’t?

I drove an Ambulance for over forty years and I know I would have been sacked for stunt like that!

The punishment for the Fiesta driver is ridiculous. In Germany, he would FOR SURE have lost his license for at least 6 months, and only have got it back after passing a medical-psychological examination where he would lay out credibly that this kind of nonsense wouldn't happen to him again in the future.

Mixed feelings about the first clip. The is trained to risk assess at all times. However if an accident had happened it could have ended differently 😢

Driving the wrong way round a roundabout can't be justified, cardiac arrest or not. But I'm not going to condemn the first responder after seeing paramedics WALK to cardiac arrests and carry the defib and gear to a patient. You should be running to the patient and if you can't run you aren't fit to be a first responder.

Instead of an ambulance it was a police vehicle, would this have even made it to the CPS?

There’s a good reason to walk to a cardiac arrest, the equipment is bulky and running with it could lead to the paramedics falling. Whenever there was a cardiac arrest call in hospital the resuscitation team would not run but walk rapidly. Don’t forget that ambulance control will be talking the caller through CPR and if there’s an AED available then through that process as well.

We don’t run to any patient, for several reasons, kit is heavy, if we fall or trip then we may become a patient, while walking to scene we preform a survey of the area for scene safety, this to ensure our safety.

@@irechopshop If you're scared of injuring yourself from jogging with a 10kg bag, you are 100% not the right mindset for emergency services imho.
