I have a little room in my house that i call 'The Baroque Room, it was the former dinning room so it had a lot of space, i turned it into a Baroque drawing room, i painted fake landscapes with statues and even the ceiling. This music fits right into it.

Comment n'avais-je pas entendu cette musique avant? J'ai étudié la musique pendant un certain temps à l'université mais je ne me suis pas arrêté pour écouter Lully assez attentivement. C'est une musique solennelle et très joyeuse, c'est très magnifique! Je vais gratter le disque dur de KZfaq et Spotify! Salutations de l'Argentine.

@Tika Sen Oui (enfin il est de Florence plus précisément, l'Italie n'étant pas encore un royaume uni) mais il est arrivé en France très jeune (adolescent). Et si vous comparez avec la musique de Marin Marais ou Marc-Antoine Charpentier, il me semble qu'on y retrouve une pâte française (ceci dit les deux que je cite se sont peut-être inspirés de Lully), différente à mon sens du baroque italien. Et même, Lully était très proche du Roi Louis XIV et de la cour... pas sûr qu'il soit resté totalement hermétique aux valeurs françaises. Même si bien sûr musicalement, le baroque italien a donné le La, sans mauvais jeu de mots ;)

Conductors of the day never used batons; composer and conductor Louis Spohr claimed that he was the first person to introduce a conducting baton to England in the 1820, but reports indicate that Daniel Turk conducted the Halle Orchestra with a baton in 1810.

@@chip8562 The French word bâton means staff and during 16th-18th century such large staves were used to conduct performances by beating time by striking batons against the floor. Monsieur Lully famously stroke his toe with it while conducting Te Deum, creating abscess that turned gangreous, which he refused to treat, resulting in his death.

A Le rayonnement de la France dans toute l’Europe de par sa culture, sa musique, son roi, ses vêtements et l’opulence de la cour. Cette époque était une explosion d’art dont Louis XIV en état le tableau central, Lully avait un grand rôle à jouer, et il l’a très bien fait (bien qu’il n’ait pas assez pris soin de son pied, oops)

Ciertamente tuve el placer de escuchar el enlace que me enviaste. Muchas gracias. Pero dejame decirte que Albinoni es un compositor estilo Italiano ,al igual que Vivaldi o Corelli . Lully , por contraste es francés ,si contrastas sus obras y las de otros compositores franceses (como Rameau o Couperin), con la de los Italianos , podras observar dos etilos claramente diferenciados. Ademas Lully perteneció a la generación de compositores anterior, durante la época de Luis XIV. Así , que no puedo decir que sea mejor o no , por que son diferentes.

@@matiasvanderdys3783 En realidad Lully era Italiano , de Florencia. Siendo niño se trasladó con sus padres a Francia. Es cierto que su formación musical es totalmente Francesa. Esto podría hacer pensar un poco a quienes, cegados por su xenofobia o patriotismo mal entendido, hoy en día desprecian a quienes llegan a buscarse la vida a su país. La unión Europea es una gran cosa y creo que cada vez más necesaria.

this is not baroque, it is older. it was the end of the 17th century. this is closer to marsh mariner. I recommend the film to you, every morning in the world with Gérard Depardieu

Quand il arrive à la cour de France, le jeune Lully n' a que 13 ans et c'est un danseur avec de bonne disposition pour l'art en général .Il n' apporte pas le baroque Italien dans ses bagages .Lully est le produit de son talent et de son ambition.C' est le fondateur du baroque Francais!

À mon sens, au-delà de la musique, il y avait toute la finesse dans les rapports (en général), et je crois que certains bons éléments de ce siècle méritent d'être revisités pour repenser, soutenir le siècle présent. Je suis issu d'un milieu culturel totalement ignorant de ce siècle de grand romantisme, des grandes Lettres et Humanités... mais je me sens pleinement épanouie rien qu'à l'écoute de la musique baroque, à la lecture des grands classiques de ce siècle... l'Europe gagnerait à se souvenir de ce qui a fait (et fait ) sa fierté !

The music of Lully is considered by all musical standards to be 100% French. It has its catch since the baroque music style was mainly developed in Italy, so in some sense it is of Italian influence. however the style developed by Lully is purely French.

@@MrAnpid l'Italie est une invention du XIXe siècle et l'empire romain n'a plus rien à voir avec l'Italie actuelle. Quand à l'origine de l'Europe, elle est diverse. La culture dominante au moyen-âge était française. Paris était la plus grande cité d'Europe au moyen-âge. Paris influença l'Italie chaotique du moyen-âge puis un art nouveau naquit en Toscane. Les allemands ont poussé la musique à la perfection. L'élève va plus loin que le maître.

You can't compare classical/baroque/ etc. music with popular music. I would say for instance that Bach is 100 times better than The Beatles or Hendrix( ehh) or Bob Dylan but why? I think it's just incomparable. Just listen to music "with the soul". It may be James Brown or Creedence Clearwater Rivival or Johann Pachelbel or Steve Reich etc. etc. etc.

actually the composers and musical theoreticians of the revolutionary era held lully in very high regard and preserved his work, which is partly how it survived. interest in "ancient" music isn't entirely a modern phenomena. cherubini who was the director of musical activitie for the revolution and napoleon admired lully, as did rossini. you can trace the first european march, and especially those with an oriental influence, to the one in this work.

at 0:02 you can hear the conducting staff pounding that broke Lully's foot and led to his gangrene and death. Glorious in life but a ridiculous death.

Lully stuck his foot when conducting "Te Deum" for Louis XIV's recovery from illness.. This does not has "Te Deum" but a series of musical pieces making fun of the bourgeoisie.

After receiving the Prize from the "Sun king" Lully (Originally Lulli) visited his friend and supervisor Nicolas Métrun. Lully wanted so show him the new Coat of arms which Lully was very proud of by himself. So excited Lully was that people in the streets saw him take a few leaps in the air and smile so widely to everyone around him. But when Nicolas saw the Coat of arms in Lully´s hands, he seized it and shouted "much work we went through together, thus we both deserve the Prize! But no sun shine have I seen, no prizes have I gotten!" So furious was Nicolas that he took aim with his dragon, but lowered the weapon after a short wait. a Complete fantasy, by Rai de Duela
