For heavy beats I do right in front of the reso head and then take it off and stuff a weighted blanket inside and record with mic in the same spot and it gives the most heavy tone with a clicky punch but still body

What’s interesting about this is that the offset mic positions makes the pitch a lot more audible which in this case is an F. This would work really well in certain situations but only those that don’t directly clash with the pitch (e.g a piece in D Major cus of the F#)

You want punch? Try taping a quarter onto the head and use a hard plastic beater OR tape a second quarter onto a regular beater. Warning, this will expose any weaknesses in your bass foot (feet) very quickly.

@@MrRezRising isn’t that bad for the drum head?
@MrRezRising3 ай бұрын
@@Dinosaurs_with_laser_guns I would say, the thing's designed to be beat to hell, BUT, placing one of those 4" bass head saving stickers where the beater hits first, THEN tape the quarter, you should be fine. Unless you're a leadfoot that naturally puts 75% of their full body weight behind each kick of course. 🥁🔊

I have Gretsch drums also. Got them maybe a month ago. I dont know what the difference is with these snares compared to others, but they are easy to tune up and have an incredible sound. Sounds like making popcorn, lol It's by far the best snare drum and sound I've ever had. I would like to add the kick drum to that list also. Deep punchy tone. The toms sound good also. The one im having trouble with is the 14" floor tom. I've tried every trick i know, plus I tried things from KZfaq tutorials, and I just can't quite get it to sound right and flow with the others. By itself, you can get it to sound great. Even get it low enough you dont need a bass drum. Not sure what's going on at this point. Maybe i need to retune everything else around it. Everything else sounds great though. Heck, it might just be me. I've been hitting drums for almost 40 years now, lol

How do I get that vintage kick sound wheee you don’t hear the click/pop so much, it’s sorta just a big marshmallow sound? That jazzy song with the finger snaps in Twin Peaks has a great example of this kick tone
@kylekrysadrums10 ай бұрын
For that style of sound you probably will want to put the bass drum mic on the front head, not inside the port hole (if it has one). The other thing to try is getting a vintage wool bass drum beater which is very soft. With a wool beater you can still put the mic in the drum but you get a much, much softer beater attack. Also, play around with how much dampening you have in the bass drum as well.

That's interesting! I usually add some crushed room mics to my overall drum sound to bring out some life but for this example I kept it pretty dry (just close mics) to hopefully make the results more obvious.

Get triggers and the roland module(s) my tm2 is giving little issue with two ontrigger Gen 3s and speed cobras. But some like just an interface to go into the close by computer (good idea, a 100 dollar bee link can handle a couple things for audio stuff.) including reaper and SD2/3/ezdrummer. It can easily go on the back of some cheap monitor you or your family has to give away. Put it on a stand. Mini recording device for triggers and you can watch videos like this! I am going to make a channel soon as I believe I can collab with these channels to improve ourselves. I have better advice and drum skill. He has better recording know how and equipment. I even have a buisness legally now. It is for my computer science in embedded engineering and music know how combined. So you ask for computer help or custom hardware to do a task. Then get guitar lessons and hardware support. Music hardware like... Making your own vocal booth using pvc and blankets. (with the computer thing I was talking about) I loved mine so much. But used the blankets for a nicer room with my drums and 55 inch TV. My amps.... Jam world

Well that's a Kick drum. A Bass drum is a resonant musical instrument with two resonating heads that don't have holes, and it has no blanket inside. You can compress out some extra resonance for recording if you like, but that thing in the video may as well be a pillow.

@kylekrysadrums10 ай бұрын
The intention is to make the blanket touch both the batter and resonant heads of the bass drum. The blanket stops most of the resonance of the drum heads when you hit it which creates a very dead, focused sound. Rather than a "boooom" you get a short "smack" sound.
