No one is born able to draw. Even the best artist started out awful and barely able to make stick figures. It takes practice and dedication to develop art talent.

Looks like he used a #2 pencil to draw the outline and later use as a lighter shade, a pen to commit the lines and a charcoal pencil to add more shade to certain regions.
