I completely resonate with your philosophy on art. In order to understand art, the viewer has to put a piece of themselves into it. In this way, the art becomes whatever you want it to be. Its one of the greatest gifts you can give. :) Thank you so much for your video; your perspective was very refreshing and youve found so much meaning in what you do. Im very glad youre out here sharing it with the world.

I love how an image starts to be apparent from what looks like random chaos then becomes more defined

You are such an inspiration! It let's me get of my perfectionism, which made me so unhappy and generated a big fear of failure I couldn't get over. I even quit art school. I'm experimenting now with the help of your channel and it's so much fun! And you learn me a lot. I'm finally finding joy in drawing again! Thank you!

I used to color inside the line as a kid. I've been stuck to lines since then. I am really enjoying your channel because these lines on crack are really liberating. Charcoal is messy buy fast! Speed is also a problem. I get so many ideas, but because of the whole staying in the line it was always hard for me to just start before the next idea. For example at the end of your tutorial I saw fangs and a pointed ear on your subject. That would have changed the whole vibe! Thank you I look forward to learning and observing from you. Subscribed.

I have been aggressively practicing this style of charcoal drawing for over a month and have been having greater success with pieces turning out to expectation. Being, primarily, a realistic artist focusing mostly on graphite, this very loose style has certainly been challenging to say the least. I love realism work, as the extreme detail work is almost an obsession for me; however, I really want to produce more abstract and loose style of art. This definitely hits the mark! Thanks for these incredible videos….you have been an awesome mentor for me! Keep up this amazing work and content!!

"...not looking like anybody specifically..." Yes, I can relate because that's my kind of art and in my art world there are no rules, so long as I find peace and happiness in doing what I love. You would want your piece to be unique as much as possible. Of course, references are very beneficial but you would want the outcome of your work to stand out as your own masterpiece and not like the reference pictures. I mean, to me, art is all about expressing my innermost feelings and thoughts through these various artistic mediums which I cannot express in any other ways. It is all about freedom of expression and not about dictation. It's also therapeutic and a very healthy approach to mind cleansing, I mean for me personally. Freedom to all the artists out there, much love.

Hi Josh, thank you so much for your tutorials! I loved them! Last week I tried - to try 😅 - your technique for the very first time and it was really difficult to stop erasing, adding shadows, and erasing! When do you recognize it’s time to stop? I needed to put the drawing in a frame to stop myself! Thank you!
