Gotta love Orthogonals! And if you don't, you just didn't know what they were called. XP
In this video I catalog all the things that i thought were confusing or did completely wrong when it comes to perspective and show the answers and correct alternatives. I found it a lot easier to learn the correct way to do things after attempting with no knowledge of what the heck I was doing. Since I had questions going in, I was easily able to find the answers to these questions while watching tutorials. How do you best learn?
Here's the tutorial that made it easiest for me to understand: • Perspective Drawing - ... (and it's in bite size pieces!)

Thanks so much for the shout-out for my perspective series! This is such a great demonstration of how one set of vanishing points and a horizon line can yield so many different images based on the size and location of your picture planes (aka canvasses.) Great drawings and process! If you don't mind, I'd like to actually add this to the end of my playlist because this is a good live demo demonstrating everything I talked about!

Watching this video sent me back to my perspective class days😊 I recall if you want to make a series of squares (buildings) that get proportionally get smaller, you draw two orthographic lines meeting at a single vanishing point, then draw two parallel, perpendicular lines and draw the same ‘X’ in the middle (like you did for making the triangles). Draw another orthographic line from the center of the ‘X’ to the original vanishing point, then you draw a diagonal line from the distant corner of your square through the point where the closer perpendicular line and the new orthographic line cross, and drop a new perpendicular line from the top/bottom original orthographic line, then you do another diagonal from the newly created box and continue doing that all the way to the vanishing point. It’s a little hard to explain, but makes sense once you start drawing.

I’m a mechanical drafting major rn and I’ve had to learn about orthographic projections and isometric, dimetric, and trimetric views, and MAN does it help your art skills. I don’t know why but I love that look when a couple of detailed panels occupy the same page like the comics do. Even though I didn’t read a whole lot of them growing up and got into the superhero universe late in life in film like many folks, I actually love and respect the aesthetic/artistic quality to genuine comics. I’ve always thought it was an under appreciated art form. Great video and the pictures themselves would look lovely in any sketch book. Bravo

I LOVE THIS VIDEO. It helped me so much because I want to learn and do more perspective drawings but the tutorial videos always look so boring. Your video made it easy to learn perspective while being SUPER entertaining. I also think I can help with color picking as you stated in the video it was hard for you. I personally make a sketch then before I go in to color it I pick a pallet. I pick out colors I like and swatch them next to each other making different shapes and basically seeing if I like the way it looks. If I do end up liking it I input it into the drawing. I've been doing more digital art lately so of course there's always the undo button, but When I do draw traditional art The process of picking out colors is just natural to me, and over time picking colors will be like second nature.

Good video on perspective drawing; however, may I recommend something? Instead of drawing the orthogonals, use a string along the horizon line (ends affixed with masking tape at your vanishing points). Then, once you draw the vertical primary edge, you can use the string to draw the lines to keep the angles correct and the drawing cleaner.

I am impressed that this is your first time doing orthogonal drawings! You've got a good grasp on how the lines and vanishing points work together. Round and organic shapes are trickier than boxes and triangles in this style so don't get discouraged that humans are hard to place in these.

THIS IS SO HELPFUL THANK YOU. Like I've got drawing from when I was about 10 in school and I was great at drawing perspective for a 10 year old. But apparently I never developed that skill further in the next 25 years. So these days I am a bit rusty and triangles are confusing. So this was excellent.

Yes! You make so much sense! And that last part about the whole what you take from a video when you don't know much about the subject. My head was screaming like "YES! THAT! EXACTLY THAT!" So glad to know I'm not alone haha. Thank you for making this look easier than it is and giving inspiration and enthusiasm to try and learn new things.

A tip that helped me a lot, is that the horizon line is the height of the eyes or the "camera", so it can be at any height, it just means that you're looking at something from that height
