Dr Dan's Voice Essentials

Dr Dan's Voice Essentials

Күн бұрын

One of the hardest things to learn to do as a vocalist is singing softly. Fortunately, learning to sing softly can be made a little easier with the right knowledge and correct techniques.
You see, all too often I hear young singers stressing and straining their voice to achieve maximum output. Sure, it can sound exciting to hit those big crescendo notes at full volume, but those mountaintop notes need to be contrasted against quieter ‘valley’ notes.
------------------------
Welcome to Voice Essentials, where everybody sings. Each week we upload new videos purposefully designed to encourage your vocal journey. So if learning to sing is your thing, then we invite you to subscribe and join our ever-growing community of passionate singers from across the globe who, just like you, want to raise their voice in song. #VoiceEssentials

And a small side note (because I'm asked a lot): It is important to note that while I hold a doctorate (thus I am Dr Dan), I am not a medical doctor, and the advice provided in this video is generalised information only. Therefore you should always consult with your licensed health care professional for personalised advice about your vocal health and well-being. #DrDan

and nail on the head. man i started easily going into the vocals slowly bringing up the volume and the dynamics are so much better since u inspired me to do it that way. hey i had another guitarist over and i had hhim mezmerized in a pure trance from my vocals and guitar. it was so funnt because hes arrogant and weird childish to be older but funny jealous kinda from my playing and a few times i watched him out the corner of my eyes stop playing and fall into a trance starring into no where. then have to basically snap my fingers to get him out of it when i was done. so wonderful to see that happen after i wud never respond or feed into his weird grown man babyness jealousy. it was honestly nice. and honestly the gear im fortunate enough to play and sing thru nakes a huge diff. i think vocal effects pedals are a must really 4 me anyways cuz im only like 70 percent kinda good. the pedals easily make it 90 percent. they make me sing better cuz i can sing ako g with my own voice that is more in key

Coming back to this one---is this a good exercise to help you learn to speak softer? I have a very loud speaking voice, thanks to a very loud family (and I am technically the quietest one of the bunch!) and I have been struggling to bring my speaking voice to a more natural, comfortable volume.

Thanks for the video! It's certainly an aspect that I'm currently concentrating on myself: It's certainly very tempting to start pushing the volume when the accompaniment (band) is loud, or when the vocal monitoring is inadequate, or, more often than not, a combination of both!

Hey Dr Dan, very helpful video and exercises as usual. It felt as if I were using as much "control" of my voice aiming for a low volume as if I was singing loudly...if not more! I'd be very keen to learn more about our voice volume output specifically in relation to microphone use ...I know microphones are to do with technology rather than our biological instrument, but mics are the performing singers major accessory and I know zip about using one properly! Have you done a vid on this already🤔? Many thanks, Linda.

When I sing softly my voice doesn't work for a few seconds after lol My dream is to become a famous singer, but I have anxiety and stage fright. Take piano lessons for a few years. I’m a retired piano teacher who also taught my daughters to play. Two went on to sing in school choir, one went on to learn to play the guitar, & one went on to play flute in concert & jazz bands at school. All are excellent sightreaders. Several of my piano students took lessons so they could be in marching band.

Nice video Dr Dan! Although it was kind of eerie quietly singing along with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Just one tip for others who are learning who see my comment, if you find you're breathy, really annunciate the words. This was something I had to practice for the first of "You Raise Me Up" when Groban sings softly. I'm by no means an expert. I'm actually a little out of practice, which is why I'm here. Dr Dan, any recommendations for practicing low voice softly? I find I can go way more quiet with falsetto, but my Pastor told me I should practice singing in G.
