I’m a vocalist lost my voice at 50. My voice got so weak and breathy over the course of 8 months I had to quit my band and had difficulty speaking. I could not raise my voice the harder I push the more breathy I get. I went to several ENTs and therapist/singing experts it didn’t seem to help. I now have a procedure scheduled to get injections in my vocal cords. I’m hopeful that this will help

In chest voice only my range is B1-D5, and also including other techniques (chest-fry, mixed voice and head voice) my range extends to D1-E6. My tessitura in chest voice is E2-G#4, my complete tessitura also including mixed voice is E2-G#5, my prima voce is F2-B3 and I have a significant amount of weight and resonance all the way down to first octave, so I think that I'm probably either a bass-baritone or a low baritone. Or could I possibly be a lyric or high baritone?

Thank you for your analysis...Noah's singing journey inspires so much respect...from starting Bad Omens as a teenager, teaching himself songwriting, producing, learning everything to improve their band...and then finding his beautiful voice with their TDOPOM album...there is mad respect and even beauty in the ability to create amazing low register growls and screams as well...to appreciate the other end of his singing spectrum please experience Dethrone Live...a song of anger at God for the loss of a loved one...Noah Sebastian is argueably the best vocalist and can sing any genre of music

I have been getting paid to sing since 8, according to this scale, I have C2 to F4, It use to be Higher and a little less deeper but at 55 it has deepened, I have considered making a 4 part with just my self, if you google The Light House (Brothers of the Heart I can sing all 4 parts of that version,) My teacher in High School said it was as if my voice had no top out, and I was always being asked to sing in Pageants with standing Ovations, I just love singing and different types of Music, I love (The 12th of Never, which I love to imitate his faster Vibrato,) I also love Keith Whitley singing (will you miss me) with ralph stanley. my voice is a gift and have always hated people coming up to say (you sing so great) I did nothing for it, other then singing 8 hours a day just for the love of it. I no longer do Karaoke contest due to winning every competition I enter and feeling bad for the others who sing really well. I find if I sing really deep from the start it takes a few minutes to get my higher end back, and if I sing Journey or on the Higher Range, it takes a day off to get back to the low C2 if that makes sense.

I'm pretty sure that Gabriel recorded this - the video and audio - on his iPhone. Based on other posts he makes, he always is using an iPhone Pro model (3 cameras vs. 2). At the time of this recording it was probably a 13 Pro or possibly 14 Pro. And the music track is probably coming from the speakers in the car - played through the CD player or from a USB thumb drive. Also, Gabriel uses vocal fry quite often, even when he is fully standing. I think it is an artistic choice, which he uses judicially to add "flavor" to the performance.

So I really like my singing voice, but I can only maintain it for a short time. I sing power metal, so there is a lot of volume and distortion. Am I able to sing at high volumes after I teach my muscles to balance themselves properly?

Can you make another video explaining how noah can do both clean and unclean vocals. Is it hard to imitate Noah style of singing?
@OnceAndFutureKing
@OnceAndFutureKing 4 күн бұрын
Unclean vocals (distortion) is where the engagement of false vocal folds are used. These false vocal folds come together. It is not hard if you know how to do it. Knowing how to do it requires regular training to condition how you use your voice which becomes muscle memory (habit). Muscle strength and muscle coordination in your vocal tract is key and is the goal of regular correct practice which is ideal under supervision and guidance of a vocal coach or voice teacher. From Wikipedia on the article "Vocal Cords" (Sub heading: False Vocal Folds): They have a minimal role in normal phonation, but are often used to produce deep sonorous tones in Tibetan chant and Tuvan throat singing, as well as in musical screaming and the death growl vocal style. (there are pictures of where the false vocal folds are if you Google)

Great question! Mimicking Noah's style can be challenging due to the distinct techniques involved. Distorted vocals often use approaches like vocal fry, false fold singing, and growling to create that unique sound. Each method requires careful practice to master without straining the voice. I agree with your male voice type 100%, but I still want to say that the female voices I don’t agree with. Mariah Carey I agree to be a soprano (at least in her prime), but Beyoncé is a gray area between a high mezzo and low soprano at this point. When she was debuting she was an obvious soprano. Also, I don’t agree with Adele being a contralto. I think of her as a high mezzo, just a little bit of a lower voice than Beyoncé but I their voices, tessitura-wise, are very similar.

Wow, that was different and refreshing Dr Dan! I've heard of Cottagecore and Grandmacore but not Metalcore 😂..it was very cool that as I was watching and listening, those interesting features like Sebastian's flipping his voice and also allowing the other instruments to do heavy lifting also struck me at exactly the same time! He does have an excellent clean sound. I wonder if someone like Leo Sayer( more my vintage !) is another example of clean vocal tone for the majority of the work, but easily leaps to higher pitches, grit and growl/ disturbed vocals... albeit to a lesser degree. Really appreciated your analysis here👍👍😊

My last vocal coach told me to drink Throat Coat tea whilst singing. She also told me that olive oil was great for a sore throat and didn't hinder the vocal chords. She was very talented and competed in singing competitions.

At around 35.30 you talk about TV Talent Show contestants being "injected with steroids". Do you mean they're actually getting medical steroids to help their voices recover faster, be pushed harder, and thus build more literal muscle? Or did you mean metaphorical steroids, in that they're being pushed to progress unnaturally fast along their career journey by being given recording contracts etc when they've not developed the emotional strength and gigging experience to deal with it?

I’m sorry you’ve felt the wrath of intense devotees. Sometimes you need some asbestos underwear to do this, I think. Anyway, great analysis. My favorite version of this is Dimash’s duet with Li Yugang, who sings female roles for the Chinese national opera-they have a kind of sing-off, and it’s a great mashup of cultural and musical styles. The songs they perform are Drunken Concubine and Diva Dance, and Dimash really shows off-lots of fun!

Thank you so much for this Dan! I've been singing as a Tenor for a while but was interested to see if I was some other voice instead. Made my life a lot easier since our ranges line up pretty well. Only difference being that my prima voce did sit a little lower than yours. I did want to ask though, have you ever considered learning subharmonics to extend your lower range? I've started practicing it as a fun project since I do enjoy singing with the basses. I've managed to get to a A1 with subharmonics, albeit shakey and not at all clear, but hopefully with some practice, I'll be able to produce a clean tone.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE compare this version to his performance of this song on the Singer. Perhaps the Singer is my favorite because he seems to put more passion into that performance. Also, the background singers and the orchestra took this song to a new elevation. I do hope you read this comment and do the comparison. I am so interested in what you think about it.

More than once I have heard Dimash refer to singing as a sport. A sport that requires constant training & discipline to continue to perform. He still does vocal training for 3-5 hours daily. I am more partial to Dimash's lower register like when he sang Sinful Passion, and Love Is Like A Dream. I don't know if you have, but, I hope you will react to his performances of Unforgettable Day and All By Myself on The Singer 2017. Most people like the Gakku version of Unforgettable Day because of the D8 note he hits. In Singer's version, he really put more passion into the song. I would love to hear what you think about it. I do appreciate your comments because they help me to understand the mechanisms of Dimash's singing capabilities.
