Actually one of the best videos on how to build out island base. You're above my level of effort on the cabinets. But thanks for pulling this together.

Thank you Tyler; I've been looking for a similar video to make this at my home and I'm glad I found this. Great job. I'll be putting mine together over the next few weeks. I'll replace the corrugated iron for VJ Boards, but otherwise, it will be pretty much the same as yours. Once again, thank you.

I just watched a video from Concrete with the Hauses. They built concrete counter tops for inside a house. During the process, they used a portland cement slurry to fill the holes.

Good to know Bill! The warping you see is from back in the day having our old grill to close to the house....the firebrick seems to work very well so far. To your oil point, I do plan on a lid that is hinged for over the griddle, will swing up against the house when the griddle is in use, further heat shield and will stop the splashing you warn about. Thanks for watching!

You waited far too long to finish your concrete. To get a nice slick finish, you start burnishing roughly 1 hour after initial set of the concrete, using a smooth steel trowel and a little water. That will give you a nice glossy finish like you see in the big box stores. You also should have vibrated the concrete a little more as that would have consolidated the concrete and reduced the amount of voids you have. I certify concrete placements for a living, so I might know what I'm talking about. You were correct in that the fiberglass mesh replaces reinforcing steel, but could have been eliminated in this build. You could have also "wet stuck" the reinforcing, eliminating the use of the chairs.

Looks like you chose to make the griddle top even with the counter top. Did you notice a performance difference in the griddle closing off this air space. I notice I get a lot of heat coming out the side with the end burner on and wondered what would happen if this was closed.

Commercial concrete requires a vibrator to shake out the air bubbles. Even tapping the side of the form or a palmsander on the outside while its all still liquid would help the edge. Overall well done.
