I wonder why contact experiencers interpret their dreamlike encounters as real - rather than as a kind of hallucination ? My sister had an encounter in her islington flat in London once. She saw a shiny perfectly spherical object, hovering outside her 1st floor window. She felt it was there for her and that it somehow knew that she was looking at it. She has a very strong memory of it to this day and still regards it as a real event. So here's the thing: my sister had forgotten to take her medication for schizophrenia. We think that the signpost that lets her brain distinguish between external sense data and internal was not operating, so as far as she was concerned at the time everything was real, including the stuff she was imagining. Perhaps something similar is at play in contact experiencers? A temporary glitch in the circuitry? Row row row your boat gently down the stream - merrily merrily merrily merrily, life is but a dream

Thank you for sharing this story. Your family stories feel a bit like mine, which is probably why I'm studying this stuff. I very much think something similar is at play with contact experiencers, although the nature of the reality of their perceptions remains an open question to me. For example, if another sensitive person was in another flat nearby, would they also hallucinate the spherical object? In any hallucination or dream, there seems to be some elements that are personal imagination and some that derive from at least the collective unconscious or other transpersonal sources. These perceptions both dreamlike and "real", but require interpretation to make objective conclusions about our shared world. I suspect our shared waking reality feels real for the same chemical mechanisms that your sister's orb felt real. Thank you for this presentation. This concept is very profound. So perhaps this new age we’re entering into is going to be about the discovery of our own supernatural abilities that we have been asleep to rather than the discovery that aggressive and entitled space aliens are about to take over our planet. This would be delightful!
