honestly, tommy does SUCH a good job at playing his character, even the small little things. after being in the literal void for months, the way he reacted to normal overworld stimuli is perfect and super realistic! he jumps at all the sounds, he feels pain to an extreme degree- he even does this thing where he gets disorientated for a moment and almost walks into the lava before dream warns him. and then after dream warns him, tommy walks next to the lava as if he's feeling along the heat of it. that's SUCH a cool attention to detail! i love that, man!

so....i'm not gonna lie. i've watched this video like, at least a dozen times. it's just really frickin cool. tommy plays his character's trauma really damn well, goddamn

HE is so overwhelmed seeing things in the prison after being in a void. Imagine how overwhelmed he'll be when he is outside in the sun.

Ok but seriously, tommy being revived he wasn't angry that dream killed him, he was scared that dream could bring wilbur back.

I would just like to point out how awesome Tommy is. His acting is so good, he puts so much effort in writing a believable character and how he portraits this whole trauma thing is really accurate and you can tell how much time he spend on it. I love watching his story and his character develop. Tommy, you're awesome.

(in this comment I'll be referring to characters with their name and the actual content creators with "cc!" before their name, just to show that I'm talking about the roleplay.) I want to take a bit to compliment cc!Tommy’s *incredible* acting. Like, wow? It’s all the little details put together that make it so great, like his control over his breathing, the facial expressions, the *heartbreaking* voice cracks, everything. It really gives Tommy so much character, and cc!Tommy does an amazing job with it all. And cc!Tommy's writing. Holy crap that guy can write *angst* into the story. Like my guy please let your character be happy (and the writing is just amazing in general? I shouldn't be surprised since he got a 9 in English or something crazy like that, but you go my man. Keep going, we appreciate it so much. Tommy you have so many people who notice and love all that you're doing, I promise.) Next, I want to elaborate on a lot of Tommy’s decisions. He gets blamed for nearly every single one of the server’s problems, such as war, and yeah you can argue that he’s involved in all of them, but there were conflicts *before* he even joined the server. Sure, they weren’t as intense, but they were still there. People also tend to take things every single one of the characters say as fact, but I want to point out that *most, if not all the characters are unreliable narrators.* Which you’re going to get a lot when you have a bunch of characters as the so-called “Main Character”. An unreliable narrator is a narrator (in this case all the characters, since all the streamers’ characters are their own main character) who does not have all the information, and therefore the things they say cannot be taken as fact. Even Tommy is an unreliable narrator! I’m not going to deny that. An unreliable narrator is not a bad thing, it makes for a more interesting an complex storyline, even if it can get confusing from an audience perspective, especially if you’re only watching one point of view and not multiple. Which is another point I want to bring up. Most of the Tommy criticism I see is from people who primarily watch someone such as Technoblade(which is 100% fine!) (again, I love Techno’s character! I just think he’s wrong about a lot of points he makes about Tommy, and again, unreliable narrator. He even admitted it out of character that he’s an unreliable narrator.) People who watch him primarily tend to take everything he says as fact. Again, watching one person is completely 100% fine! But you have to realize that the information you’re getting if you do that is not going to be completely correct all the time, and your opinions and knowledge on other characters will not be as much as someone who watches other perspectives. My knowledge on a couple of the characters are far from perfect as well, but I read a lot of analysis posts and stream recaps so I feel I have a relatively good understanding of more of the characters. Back to Tommy. From other’s perspectives, it may seem like he only cares about one thing: The Infamous Music Discs. But, that’s incorrect. Tommy has shown time and time again that he values people over discs. Most of the things that Tommy cares about comes from the memories he has with them, which is why he’s become so attached to the discs. He has memories of them with Tubbo. And this is also why, in exile, he didn’t take any of the “Pity Gifts” that people gave him, since there were no memories attached to them. “But what about the Chirp disc?” He had memories with other people attached to that. Badboyhalo stayed and listened to it for a bit with him, and Bad helped protect it/hide it from Dream. (It was also one of Tubbo’s favorite discs, and he probably remembered that.) And Tommy has been shown to choose people over the discs, shown *especially* during when he gave the discs to save L’Manburg the first time, and when he chose Tubbo over the discs in the finale (even though they were fake.) Another point I see a lot is that Tommy betrayed Technoblade, back at the community house “after all Techno had done for him.” What did Techno do for him, exactly? Yes, he gave him armor, yeah he let him steal apples, but Techno, not *once*, asked what Tommy needed. Tommy had just ran away from Dream, and you all know what Dream did to him. Tommy needed emotional comfort, which Techno provided none. (And I understand that that is not Techno’s fault, since c!Techno has been shown to not be good with emotions, and granted Tommy never told him what Dream did to him so Techno had no reason to know. He just thought Tommy was being more of a brat than usual). Tommy needed someone to be there for him, and even though Techno couldn’t really provide it and it’s not his fault, they never really had a good relationship anyways, as they disagreed on a lot of things and Tommy didn't want to do most of the things Techno did but felt obligated to. When Dream caught them going through the portal, it was *Techno* who offered to use the favor to give Tommy back to Dream, not the other way around. And Tommy, not *once*, said he agreed with Techno’s ideals against government. Tommy just needed someone at that moment, and Techno was the only one he could go to without risk of being killed or having others killed. A lot of the reason for people disliking Tommy is because of the personality. Which I can understand! But if you notice, he lashes out a lot because he is extremely loyal to his friends (to the point where it almost becomes too much) and get's angry because *everything he ever loved/had attachment to was threatened and/or taken away from him.* People, pets, items, you name it, its been used against him. Tommy has shown that he would prefer all of the bad things to happen to him, like when Dream blew up L'Manburg (which time lmao) and Tommy said something along the lines of "Why couldn't it just have been me?" That's not a hero complex, Tommy never wanted to be the hero. That's him wanting what's best for his friends, and his mindset is "If my friend's are happy, then I'm happy." Tommy, in this very VOD, said he was willing to be Dream's friend if only so he wouldn't bring back Wilbur. To protect his friends. c!Tommy is extremely self destructive, in multiple ways. (~get c!Tommy help 2021~) There are so many more points, and this kind of went all over the place, but I have a lot of opinions and just wanted to appreciate all the depth of the character. (this is all rp!) its a little bit embarrassing leaving a genuine, heartfelt analysis and comment on here but can i just say that i absolutely adore how smp!tommy is written? like, honestly, despite all the shit his character gets he is still so entirely sincere and easy to sympathize with. so many things that have happened to him were entirely out of his control, yet he still strives to be a better person and make amends with people he hurt. and the few times he doesnt (w hbomb and jack, for instance) its because he didnt know he hurt them. his character feels so real, like... i specifically really like that smp!tommy finds it difficult to explain how he feels. it both feels like a natural thing for his character, and something that has been emphasized with the amount of trauma he's faced. and the fact that the only emotion he really feels comfortable expressing is anger? it feels like a very genuine representation of trauma and the effects of the things he's been through. i could genuinely talk about his character for ages, its just... so incredible. i dont even know where to begin. as someone who can relate to smp!tommy, i can confidently say that tommy, the real dude, portrays what smp!tommy has gone through in an incredibly respectful and accurate way. the moral conflicts smp!tommy faces makes so much sense-- he is, at the end of the day, a 16 year old put into war too fast who lost so, SO much. smp!dream was right when he said smp!tommy brought attachments to the server. smp!tommy is absolutely full of attachments, to pets, sentimental objects, people... its why he never cared about the gifts techno got him, or the stuff tubbo got for him during the many, many wars. they didnt represent MOMENTS. they didnt represent his relationship to them. tommy's attachment to sentimentality is just... so prevalent. that one scene in ranboo's grieving stream explains it all. ranboo, confused about his relationship to tommy, finds a token of the beginning of their friendship, hidden, and locked away in tommy's home. its such a small moment, but it represents so much. because smp!tommy doesnt have big speeches, or incredible one liners, or even monologues to himself. you have to pick out the parts of his character yourself. there are so many situations on the smp, where there isnt a person who is in the "right". a great example of that was the entire smp!technoblade and smp!tommy fiasco. there are so many arguments about who was right. nobody was. their relationship was doomed to fail-- smp!tommy was in a shitty place, and smp!techno was in no place to be able to help. their ways of communication, and ideals in general, were just... too different to be able to pick up the social cues the other was giving. that doesnt mean they both had to "do better" or whatever, it just means that, at that point in time, their familial relationship wasnt meant to last. anyway, hahah, ive rambled enough. point is, i really appreciate the way smp!tommy is written. there are plently of more coherent and well written takes on tumblr, but this was just a few thoughts :)

I just gotta say that's Tommy's portrayal of a traumatised character is so good. The way he responds to his abuser (Dream) putting him through all this trauma over again really captures the idea of a severely damaged person. The way he responds after Dream "pinches" him "No don't do that ever again not you not here" Is a perfect example of a trauma response to abuse. I've studied the ins and outs of PTSD and C-PTSD because I want to understand my condition, and I've gotta applaud this acting, whoever is writing this characters is doing one hell of a good job. Also Dreams character, I absolutely love him. He's a truly awful person but he's written so well. Dream fills the role of his character perfectly, the manipulation, the god complex, the lack of empathy, the lust for power, another actor that I applaud. That was my rant as a nerdy drama kid with C-PTSD. 10/10 acting lads :)

Tommy’s streams feel like reading a book. Like, in books or fanfics there’s every little sensory detail. Like, you have to write what people are feeling(physically and emotionally), what they hear, what they see, what they’re thinking, what they’re doing. And you have to imagine it. That’s how you create immersion. Those things aren’t usually seen in visual mediums I don’t think. I don’t remember being able to imagine or understand the pain Agent Washington was going through in the Epsilon incident in Red Vs Blue, just flashes of another character and hear him screaming in pain. I couldn’t picture the coldness of Elsa’s room in Frozen. I couldn’t feel how wet and cold Maise (idk if I spelled her name right) must’ve felt standing on a rooftop being chased by a living weapon in Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. Maybe it’s because you are actually watching from his POV, but Tommy somehow managed to turn watching something into feeling like reading. At least for me. You can imagine his world suddenly ending as he’s killed, you can hear the elder guardian being fricking loud and obnoxious, you can imagine how disorienting being suddenly brought back to life may be. And so much more. And all that from visuals and audio. Idk what he did that other filmmakers don’t.

Tommy's acting in this is so genuine and amazing. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I see some people saying the revival seemed rushed, but I disagree. I think it's just quick enough and also!!! Dream is such a psychopath!!!! Imagine acting this way!!! It's so clear that he thinks he owns Tommy, it's scary. Tommy's genuine-seeming fear every time Dream punched him after he got beaten to death, his reaction when Dream said he would do it again- I have no words I have no actual words but I keep typing and typing because holy sh*t this is so good. Tommy's arc and pov can be so confronting because of my personal experiences with an ab*ser (obviously no murder bc that's impossible), but I think his choices and thought processes are actually very realistic for someone who's going through it (which is vaguely upsetting in an "how does he know" type of way but also speaks of his raw talent) and I spent days thinking about this stream and rewatching it because it was JUST. SO. GOOD.

When Dream asked what Wilbur was like I expected him to say "SO much solitare."

Bro, it's amazing how much Tommy's acting has improved, and he was really good to begin with! Just the little things like how he got overwhelmed by all the new senses after coming back from the empty void, how even just Dream pinching him made him start hyperventilating, it's incredible characterisation. If C!Tommy wasn't my favourite before, he *definitely* is now.
