Dream Theater - The Ministry of Lost Souls
From Chaos in Motion 2007--2008 DVD
May 6, 2008 at Orpheum Theater in Vancouver
Comunidad de Dream Theater en Argentina: dreamtheaterarg.com.ar/
Lyrics
The water's edge
Is where she waits
Lost souls still wandering
Meant to die
But she's stuck not crossing over
The other side
Is where he waits
His spirit reaching out
Meant to save
But she's too scared to take his hand
Living in a world without you
(Drowning in the past)
Is living in no world at all
So now I call on you...
Remember me? I gave you life
You would not take it
Your suffering was all in vain
It's almost over now
Don't turn your back on paradise
Feeling scared, she's prepared
To give up everything
She can't stand to feel
Like half of her is fading
He will choose the only way
To rid her of her pain
Take her soul now
The decision has been made
Living in a world without love
(A burden to my soul)
Is living in a worthless world
So I will call on you...
Remember me? I gave you life
You would not take it
Your suffering was all in vain
It's almost over
Remember me? You were so young
How could I tell you?
Remember me? I am the one
Who saved your life that night
I was the one who would not abandon you
Even in death I was the one who would not leave you
I used my freedom to protect you
And all the while direct you
Do you remember me this time?
Even in death I gave you life
I gave you life!
I wanted to
Deserve a place
A place beside you
This time when I reached out my hand
It reached all the way to heaven
Remember me? I gave you life
You would not take it
Your suffering was all in vain
It's almost over now
Goodbye
It's almost over now
Goodbye
It's time
I release you from this life
Don't turn your back on paradise

So is no one going to talk about how good John's vocals sound on the "Goodbye" part in the last chorus?
@OllingProductions
@OllingProductions 7 жыл бұрын
He is making the low vocals, and James the high ones.. I mean it sounds great, but not really comparable to his guitar playing
@zennyfrommoga
@zennyfrommoga 7 жыл бұрын
OllingProductions I'm simply a sucker for vocal harmony, and JP is killing that one. Don't know why it jumped out to me so much, but it did lol. And don't get me wrong, I'm a guitar player too, and JP actually happens to be my favorite guitarist, but yeah, he's not doing much that stands out on guitar in that exact spot, and he's just got some really good tone going on his vocals in that "Goodybye" harmony bit. Got the same powerful feeling from his vocals when he sang the "One Last Time" bit in Finally Free at the Breaking the Fourth Wall Show.
@OllingProductions
@OllingProductions 7 жыл бұрын
I agree, the harmonies sound better than just the regular version, adds variaty and "uniqueness", but technically its not really his vocals that shines through, but James' as its James who sings the second voice which dominates over the first voice or the "melody" as its located above the melody tone. Though, he doesn't sing bad at all, and it is very clear how he progressed over the years. Im attending my 8th concert with them in February, SO EXCITED!
@zennyfrommoga
@zennyfrommoga 7 жыл бұрын
OllingProductions Yeah, the higher harmony that James sings here live is in the recording as well, but the melody dominates it. In this live show, James is just a touch louder than John, but we can still here John very clearly, which to me, brings out not only John's great vocal tone in that part, but the harmony as a whole, and how beautiful of a harmony it is. I've only seen them once, back in April, where they did the Astonishing live, and that absolutely knocked my socks off. Will be sure to see them every chance I get.

One of the best DT songs and the outro solo just takes it to a special place.

nice....shows how using minor chord progressions augmentations can really add a sorrow/hallowing aire to a song...love how it just keeps augmenting then fades, not ends really good song great lyrics too , one of their best

This song makes me think of my son waiting there to my mom cross over the days after she passed away. He was 5 months old and mom was 70. In a spiritual mind he helped to comfort her and she accepted. Music has its way to make us realize what the spiritual world is.

People say that Systematic Chaos is their worst album. If that's true then I think that's a very great compliment to all their other albums because Systematic Chaos is a musical masterpeice. The song has to be one of their best.
