@@Bealikespeas102 astonishing comment as gilmour played most of the bassThe whole Who played bass? debate comes from one article, which was originally published in Musician magazine in August 1992, with excerpts being published in others, such as Rock Compact Disc in September '92. The original was titled Careful With That Axe: David Gilmour Chops Through Pink Floyd's Past to Build a New Future by Matt Resnicoff. In December of that same year, he published Roger and Me: The Other Side of the Pink Floyd Story. Both of these have often been quoted in these discussions, but out of context. I'm only posting the relevant portions of each interview, one in response to the other, as they were given. MR: Was Roger an effective bassist back then? DG: He had developed his own limited, or very simple style. He was never very keen on improving himself as a bass player and half the time I would play bass on the records because I would tend to do it quicker. Right back to those early records; I mean, at least half the bass on all recorded output is me anyway. MR: This is not a widely acknowledged fact. DG: Well, I think it's been said, but it's certainly not something we go around advertising. Rog used to come in and say, "Thank you very much" to me once in a while for winning him bass-playing polls. MR: Did you play the fretless bass on "Hey You"? DG: Yeah. Hmm. Roger playing fretless bass? Please! (laughs)

I saw Roger Waters at Madison Square Garden in January 1987 (Radio KAOS tour) and he brought out the original singer from Dark Side Of the Moon to sing that song. Massive respect for this epic project. Everything is precise and tight. They truly capture the spirit of the original. It must have been a real thrill to be there. For the critics... I know Pink Floyd is untouchable but, DT deserves MAJOR respect for pulling this off.

As with all Dream Theatre music, this rates among the very best. Especially doing a cover of a band that is very hard to emulate. Hats off again to DT for doing an exemplary job. I hope you agree.

Wow!! Dark side of the moon is one of the greatest albums out there and I must say this is the first cover that I heard that not only comes close to the original but ots played to perfection. Dream Theater did a great job recreating the atmosphere that Pink Floyd so masterfully created. Without exaggerating and without any fills to ‘break’ the soulfulness of any passage, DM performs the whole album in a very professional and ‘faithful’ way. Great job guys!

I was just thinking the same. It’s the complete lack of urge to exaggerate that does the trick.which is a typical (bad) culture between virtuosos when covering Pink Floyd. This is PERFECT.

It's the sheer appreciation that's called for here, not bitching over who's better than who. The original is class, and DT are certainly making their version so commendable. To argue and to ignore the efforts, beggars belief.................................

The Wall was the first album i ever listened from start to the end and Dark Side of the Moon was the second. My first favorite band (it still is) was Pink floyd and they determined my music taste. Thanks to the Floyd i met with rock, blues, jazz, prog rock and many other genres but most importantly Porg Rock wich led me to know Dream Theater. And now to see that one of my favorite bands covering one of my favorite bands albums is really emotional and sweet for me. Thank you Pink Floyd, thank you Dream Theater.

Alexandre Matos you should find out how the original female vocal solo was made by Claire Torry. She was invited to sing whatever came into her head, using her voice as a lead instrument. She listened once, then sang it twice. That was all. She was embarrassed, excused herself for what she thought was quite weak. But the guys from PF sat there, flabbergasted and in awe. It was simply perfect, beyond what they expected. Listen to the original, breathtaking. Now this woman here, definitely fantastic in her own way.
