This song includes my favorite guitar solo ever. I know it's not exactly a classic, but to me, it's so impressive and gorgeous.

I feel ya. Petrucci himself refers to it a nothing more than a "bag of tricks" solo... but God damn, what great tricks!

for me that solo is my favorite too. It got everything, the A to Z of guitar.

The song came out about 30 odd years ago it's fair to call it a classic at this point. Amazing work from petrucci.

Speaking of FINAL BOSS music, they contributed an insane instrumental called RAW DOG for The God of War 3 game soundtrack. I hope you can react to that one as well. Hardly anyone reacts to it yet it's such a powerful piece of music that will leave you speechless. Well, most of Dream Theater's music will leave you speechless.

Hey Man, great choice to follow up Octavarium. Images and Words, their second album, is an absolute DT Classic. As you can hear the writing, playing, vocals and production is top notch. It features original keyboardist Kevin Moore, a superb player and a major writing contributor and original drummer the legendary Mike Portnoy who you heard on Octavarium. Recommend the album versions of two more all time classics from this album: "Pull me under" which is arguably the best opening track of any of their albums and the legendary "Metropolis part 1" , there are many great live versions but the studio versions are that damn good you gotta check 'em out first! Enjoy the DT journey, cheers

Dream Theater originally came together as the band Majesty in 1985, when Mike Portnoy (drums) met John Petrucci (guitar) and John Myung (bass) at Berkeley School of music... Kevin Moore (keyboards) joined the band... Charlie Dominici (vocals) joined in 1988 for their first album, and designed their 'M' logo... but they were forced to change the name of the band to Dream Theater... suggested by Mike Portnoy's father after a movie house. James LaBrie (vocals) joined in 1991 and has been on all subsequent Dream Theater records. from 1992 until today. Kevin Moore left the band in 1994 after recording their 3rd album ... keyboardist Derek Sherinian replaced him until 1998. Jordan Rudess joined on keyboards in 1999... Mike Portnoy left the band in 2010 to focus on various other musical projects. Mike Mangini (drums) joined in 2011 until today. Dream Theater's best work include the tracks - 'Pull me under' ... 'Caught in a web' ... 'New millennium'... 'Home' ... 'The glass prison' ... 'Constant motion' ... 'Forsaken' ... 'This dying soul' ... 'Lifting shadows off a dream' ... 'On the backs of angels' ... 'Breaking all illusions' ... 'Misunderstood'...🔥🔥🤘🤘 Their ballads include - 'Another day' ... 'Beneath the surface' ... 'Wither' ... 'The answer lies within' ... 'Along for the ride'

This was Dream Theater's 2nd album from 1992... if u listen to their debut album 'When dream & day unite' from 1989, they had singer Charlie Dominici, and their music was still developing... This album 'Images & words' had singer James LaBrie, and the music was miles ahead of their debut album, despite being the same musicians - Mike Portnoy (drums), John Myung (bass), John Petrucci (guitar) & Kevin Moore (keyboards) ... there was a 3 year gap between the records, and Dream Theater spent years writing the material for 'Images & words'... they changed labels and were able to flourish sonically and musically. They had never actually toured before 'Images & words' came out (they only played occasional gigs) and they got the opportunity to tour the US, Europe and Japan between 1992 -'93 for the first time. The members of Dream Theater were devotees of Rush, and they grew up on 70's bands like Led Zeppelin, Queen, Deep Purple, Yes, Genesis, Frank Zappa, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, etc... Mike Portnoy (drums) introduced them to up-&-coming 80's bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Fates Warning, Queensryche, etc. as well as heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne ... bands like Journey, Triumph, Boston, etc. So, Dream Theater became a "melting pot" for all those influences... which is why their delivery varies from ballads to metal tracks to epic prog rock songs.

You should check out Take The Time from them, it's from the same album too "Images & Words", which is their best album IMO.

so good, i've been following along your journey, i would never have suggested Dream Theater, I just wouldn't expect you to like them as they are quite heavy obviously along with the technique. its funny i'm sure the suggestions were for "Glass Prison" not "Under A Glass Moon" but so glad you chose this one off their debut album, you really should do the next two in sequence on the album "Wait for Sleep" which is a beautiful little segue into "Learning to Live" probably my fave song of theirs, I find some of their stuff a little too over the top for me but these two tracks are gold.

So glad to wake up to this! If you want to watch them live I recommend watching via the original drummer, Mike Portnoy's drum cam videos where they focus on him. He is my favorite drummer for good reason. This one is kinda long but check out this performance from their album Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a6p7mpd1qq_Go3U.html

Hello Wow, 'know it was 30 years ago ? If U pick a change of seasons and choose a live version (there are many), one of the coolest U can find is when you search: "Dream Theater - Live Scenes From New York (2000): DVD Bonus" and go at 00:36:11 of that video, best quality for that live performance I saw on KZfaq (I can't put the link here). Something about Octavarium was always boring to me. I dunno what it is. This is one of their songs I really feel. Most of their albums are like this one. Dream theater is absurd.
