Welcome to Living in the Loire, we are a young family in rural France, renovating previously poorly converted barns. We aim to do most of the work ourselves, being as frugal and as eco as possible!
We are learning on the job and we hope to share the skills we pick up along the way. When possible we will take you on a tour of the region (the garden of France) sharing with you the numerous chateaux, towns and markets.
As well as the house we will be transforming the garden, bringing part of it back to its previous use as a potager. This is our dream and one of the main reasons of leaving the city to move to the countryside in France.

Love the skit on Maartijn! I found your channel long before I found his. His work is surreal, but for me the most surreal part about it is he bought his camper van from my neighbour! I do love your channel and love all the gardening plans. Your kids must be eating healthier than any other kid in their school. Keep up the good work and have a great 2024.

Greetings from South Africa!! I laughed at the dream, it was so funny - I also have similar dreams, but more about living in the peacefull Italian Alps in a similar stone building - I so love, love, love Martijn Doolaard's perfectionism - I really enjoy watching him working. Another Dutch guy Olav in Burgundy France, with similar workmanship I enjoy on "Aan de Franse Slag" (His wife Marloes's channel "French Country Living" is also interesting) - I really enjoy this couple as well. Thanks for your channel.

Okay. This is hilarious! I also love watching Martjin Doolaard, although I do wonder how to pronounce his name. I would say that he is something to aspire to BUT he has no wife and no children and no pets/other livestock. While I totally appreciate his perfectionism, I can only imagine that he would be impossible to live with, soooo..... You guys are delightful. I also love watching your videos!

I usually watch KZfaq videos X2 speed because I've got too many in my watch later playlist. But I watch yours at regular speed so I can fully appreciate them. Didn't expect your channel to be so hilarious when I subscribe.

💕I’d dig up outside your future bedroom & concrete it or lay slab’s just buy a few each week as & when you can afford them💕You can put celery in stews casseroles curry I just put them in anything I’m cooking including bolognese cook and liquidise, cooking liquidised add to mashed potatoes💕

If you want to get rid of the stump burn it. I had 5 stumps that drove me crazy for 5 years and a mate showed me a great trick. With a splayed bit drill holes every 4 inches apart as deep as you can go. Fill holes with kerosene and leave to soak. Place kindling inside and around stump and use small logs to help fire start. Light it and as it burns add many dry logs around the stump to increase intensity. Keep an eye on it and ensure it remains safe. Best to do on a cloudy day. 5 stumps were no more in a day. Make sure no fire bans. I enjoy your vlogs the plans for next year look fantastic. Hello from Sydney Australia

Really enjoyed that. I've got the same chicken run and you'll find that small birds like sparrows and nuthatches can still get in through the wire.

Love your entertainment value. Regarding your tree stumps, I’ve seen some KZfaqrs use tree stump grinders! Yep, there is such a thing. Hope this helps.

Could you try burning out the rotten stump? It may take a day or two but a small controlled fire in the middle of the stump would probably burn it out. Sending best wishes from Australia!!

We've given it a good burning once. We go on about it a lot but the species is a beast, the stump and roots have these unique mirco holes which hold huge amounts of water. Eventually it should dry out enough where we can give it another go. Thanks for watching.

If you don't like dealing with weeds don't have the patio in crushed stone. I would extend the concrete slab and then stone/ pebble pave it.

Yes we had a case in the area and told by the mayor to keep the chickens enclosed. They're used to freedom, so they haven't taken to it too well. They've literally tried to dig their way out!

@@LivingintheLoire it can cut feed costs too, and you can also grow some edibles in their run as long as the roots are protected, such as sun chokes. I would love to see a vlog about that if you do it.

Selling your art overseas can be a huge headache... I'm a sculptor. I've sold my bronzes all over the world.. Indonesia, Paris, Italy, and England.. and believe me... the paper work is just half the problem.. In my case.. it's getting a shipping company that will pick up the bronze, which can weigh close to a hundred pounds and paying for the freight.. And then there's the duties paid by the client when it goes through customs. I love selling my art in other countries but the getting there can be a real pain... Love the chicken coop...

David, I wanted to let you know we have subscribed to your channel and you are a very talented sculptor. I (Brook) really want to give it a go soon, which of your videos you can you recommend for beginners? It took Rebecca a lot of time, the paperwork, hopefully by using Shopify we can add different apps which should make it more streamlined in future, we will see.

Ummm, I remember subscribing to you BEFORE you "blew up" haha -- I'm an OG fan! Great job, guys! I was cracking up laughing at the chicken bit about them getting booted off lmao. One quick question since we're soon starting a similar adventure... how were you able to fly a drone there near Chinon? Do you need a license? Did you need permission? Or was it more of an ask for forgiveness later type of move? :p Thanks!

Good to see an OG! The drone is under 250g which doesn't require you to have a licence. I also believe the laws are more relaxed here than other countries. DJI won't let you fly it if it's a restricted area. However I always try and fly away from people, usually over a river or countryside. Hope this helps.

Very funny. Love your humour. Talk me through please the sound when you were filming Rebecca dreaming. I have difficult ears and the sound was too base for me (it hurts) I had to mute you. I noticed it in another of your videos some time back. Maybe it's when you're wearing a mic. I was pleased I could unmute later and enjoy the rest of your video.

Yes we had some sound issues on that clip, I tried to resolve them but it's come out distorted. The gist is Rebecca is dreaming of Martijn and saying his name in her sleep, I tell her she's saying a man's name, miffed I then tell her do you want to watch I'm a Celeb or go to bed?
