I loved your reaction! Just a couple of things I’d like to add about the song. Taylor wrote this about Jake Gyllenhaal. They dated when she was 19-20 and he was 28-29. Thus the lyric “you said if we had been closer in age it would have been fine”. She has confirmed that she scarf metaphor symbolizes her virginity. She originally wanted to wait until marriage to have sex but changed her mind with Jake as she thought she was going to marry him. That’s how in love she was with him. He was the one to take it and he will forever keep it. Which is also why it smells of “innocence”. This is also why she felt shame when she reached for him. He also never called it love until after they broke up in an interview. They were together for three months aka “three months in the grave”. He also never actually wanted her he was just using her for arm candy “an ever needy every lovely jewel whose shine reflects on you”. Sadie sink and Dylan o’brien’s real life age difference is the same as when Taylor and Jake were together. The whole kitchen argument scene is used to show that he was gaslighting her and making her feel “stupid”. The last thing I’ll say is that the line “I’ll get older but your lovers stay my age” is so true. Jake is currently 41 and dating Jeanne Cadieu 25.

Wow, I can't believe it took me so long to find this reaction! I requested it a bit ago (I'm not sure if this was already posted but I did try searching it before I submitted the request). This song is a such a rollercoaster ride and beautifully written. I feel this song in my soul, like the relationship she's writing about here.
