Hey there. I have lived at Dancing Rabbit for 2 years. Yep, treating animals with respect is also something that is talked about much here. We do have people that raise chickens etc. as a food source, but they are pasture raised and treated as humanely as possible.

Hey, Briana, I think I have you as a friend on FB already. (Share a Fb group maybe) Yes, you can certainly live here as a vegan. We don't have as many vegans living her right now, but that shifts from time to time as new people move here etc. We are growing more and more of our own veggies and fruits. We are also have one grocery store that is 2 miles away and a bigger town with many stores 20 minutes away, so though we are rural, we are not isolated.

Sadly, no. We do have cold winters. We do have lots of apple and pear trees. We just planted more peach and plum trees. I plan to plant some hazelnut, walnut, pecans and chestnuts next year. I am also looking into getting a grant for a large greenhouse that we could share. Then we could potentially experiment with things we would not ordinarily be able to grow here.

Every tour group is different. We run tours twice a month for whoever shows up, lots of tours during Open House once a year, and sometimes outside of those. If one group seems to be of all one age range or lacks diversity in other ways, it could be that some of these people came as a group. I think most tour groups are pretty diverse.

Older people have had the top jobs, big houses, country club memberships, and realise that there is a better, simpler way of living out there. They are the wise people who need to educate the younger generation

Hey Amy. Currently, we have high school kids living here that get picked up by the public school bus and do the usual thing. We do have a lot of kids that are 10 and younger though, and there are several parents that have put together a "Home School Co-0p". Basically, they are all home schooled and now will be rotating to different homes as a group and learning together from the various parents. Some have been teachers before they moved here.

Hey there. I have lived at Dancing Rabbit for about 2 years now. I am on the "Visitor Team" as well as some other committees here. One of my personal focuses is village growth. I can tell you that we have had a lot of conversations here as to how we might expand our ethnic diversity. We currently have one guy here from Spain and a woman from Italy, but other than that not so much diversity ethnically. We are open to ideas as to how we may improve this. My personal hope is that in making sure that we promote to ALL people who would be interested in this lifestyle, and that we express how welcome EVERYONE is, that we will be creating the right variables for this to happen. We are located in rural Missouri though, and some of us wonder how many ethnic minorities would want to move here with us, (even if we are awesome), still being surrounded by a predominantly white culture in the surrounding towns. My hope is that after a few people (with some tint to their skin) move here, it will make it much easier for others to feel more comfortable moving here also.

Context: Our contractor friend offered discounted services, which he was paid for. He "lost money" by not charging market rates, but all his costs were covered AND he was paid for his time as well...simply at a lower rate which he offered us. ALSO over the years many of us have helped him on other projects of his, either as volunteers during demolition or grunt labor when his usual guys weren't available. Still good friends to this day!
