Fluorite. It's even softer than Feldspar, makes it easier to polish and grind.

so glad you found me 😁 so the most recent video I posted is pretty close to a tutorial on polishing kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rdZ2dq6e28zIlHU.html we need to get a saw before we're able to do any cutting 😩 what I polish is either precut or we whack at it with a hammer and chisel 😅

Very beautiful work❤ That’s a gorgeous fluorite! May I ask what type of bits did you use for grinding the fluorite? (As started around 0:05 of the video) I couldn’t seem to find the right ones to use 😢 also is that a Dremel 4000?

Hello, beautiful work! Any chance you have advice for polishing a figurine? I have a dremel and wheels, im just afraid of damaging the figure and i dont have practice stones 😅 I am familiar with gem cutting, but only polishing flat+accessible facets. My statuette is well polished on the accessible/basic faces, but all the carved nooks seem to only be polished to 100-200 grit tops. Bugs the bajeesus out of me and ruins the clarity. Any tips for a tool to get into tight areas with higher polishing grits? Thanks! 🙏
@thebroadhouse9 ай бұрын
hello thank you so much! 💜 I wish I did but I also am only familiar with easily accessible surfaces.

@@thebroadhouse thanks anyway! I'm going to get some test stones and some diamond paste + felt tools 🤞
@karlbarros28499 ай бұрын
Try wet or dry paper. It's not fast enough to cause well much damage. Wrap it around chop sticks etc. I usually end with 600 grit, and highlight with 1500 grit.
@SeanQuinn49 ай бұрын
@@karlbarros2849 hmmm, any ideas that could be Dremel mounted? This is definitely intriguing, the figure is a little dragon that has a bunch of small relief cuts though, and they appear to have been done with a 120 grit small grinder and left close to that roughness. So I have ~40 of those cuts to polish from rough, ideally I'd like to use a power tool😅

Ive bought a few raw fluorite pieces and washed them with hand soap and water, one of them felt a little chalky and sticky afterwards, even days after drying, is that normal?
@thebroadhouse7 ай бұрын
I think it depends on what kind of soap you use. I usually just clean mine with water. sometimes I use Dawn if they're really dirty, but some rocks can tolerate what others won't. you can try applying some mineral oil, let it dry, and see if that gets the sticky/chalky feeling off.

What are the names and grits of the wheel things u are using? Do they sell anything bigger to attach to a power drill? I want to smooth some big rough zebra stone for my aquarium. They dont have to be shiny just smooth. Please help, im honestly begging lol

What type of mask is needed for doing that to quartz?
@thebroadhouse7 ай бұрын
sorry just now seeing this! this is my recommendation- if you're outside with good airflow, an N95 particle mask would be fine. we've been doing a lot of polishing in our garage with a filter fan going and when polishing like that I'd recommend a half-face respirator, and always wearing safety glasses when shaping and polishing.

I have white residue on my rocks, does it go away with more shining? I think it comes from me dipping it in water in between polishing to see what I’m working with
@thebroadhouse Жыл бұрын
without knowing the exact details, there are a few reasons I can think of. 1. you might be changing grits too fast. try spending more time on the lower grits and keep rinsing. the water helps wash away that super fine rock dust. 2. you might not be done polishing! I usually go up to 10k grit. rocks that I've stopped polishing at lower grits are very dull and cloudy looking due to being covered in tiny scratches made by the sanding discs. 3. the fine dust is getting trapped in the tiny scratches being made by the sanding disc. I now keep a toothbrush in my clean water and after I rinse, if there's any residue, I scrub it out and keep polishing.

Could I please get some guidance regarding what All tools and attachments are necessary for carving and polishing intricate designs on such similar rocks? Also if any product is available to ensure that it can be done with minimal sound and dust. P. S: I live in an apartment
@thebroadhouse5 ай бұрын
for carving intricate designs I would recommend something like this- a.co/d/87lupe2 I haven't figured out a way to polish inside of tight spaces. A Dremel or similar rotary tool will not be too loud for an apartment, but dust mitigation could be tricky. A steady water drip is best but if you can't achieve that I would recommend a HEPA filter on a high-powered vacuum along with frequent rinsing to keep the material wet.
