Check out this fascinating interview with Professor Bruce Hollis, a pioneer in vitamin D research and an expert on vitamin D deficiency.

0:00 Welcome, Professor Bruce Hollis!
0:53 The 2 systems in the body that use vitamin D
2:40 The forms of vitamin D
8:30 The problem with vitamin D research in the United States
15:45 What are normal vitamin D levels?
18:47 Vitamin D and cancer
25:35 Is vitamin D stored in your fat?
27:03 Vitamin D and your arteries
28:44 Vitamin D and lactation
34:11 Vitamin D and magnesium
36:43 Vitamin D toxicity
42:06 How did you begin your research on vitamin D?
49:30 Final thoughts
Please join me in welcoming Professor Bruce Hollis! Professor Hollis’ research has provided a new understanding of the importance of vitamin D and its full range of functions.
Vitamin D has been understood as an essential nutrient for skeletal integrity and maintaining blood calcium levels. As microbiology and research developed, researchers found that many cells that had nothing to do with the skeleton could respond to vitamin D, including cancer and immune cells.
Vitamin D exists in different forms inside the body. When you take a supplement or sunlight hits your skin, you’re dealing with the inactive form of vitamin D. It is then turned into a compound called 25-hydroxy vitamin D, the intermediate form of vitamin D that stays in the blood for weeks. This form is picked up in blood tests but isn’t easily accessible by the tissues that might need it.
The final form of vitamin D is one of the most potent hormones, 125 di-hydroxy vitamin D. Vitamin D is converted into the active form in the kidney but can also be converted inside the cells.
The vast majority of studies substantiating our information on vitamin D in the U.S. have several problems and have produced inaccurate results. There is also no agreed-upon range on “normal” vitamin D levels-or what levels are considered a vitamin D deficiency.
Professor Hollis has conducted research and has seen significant results using vitamin D to prevent birth complications in women in Iran, in patients with low-grade prostate cancer, and in lactation. He also explains the importance of magnesium, a key cofactor for vitamin D metabolism.
Professor Hollis wants people to understand that few physicians recommend or acknowledge the benefits of vitamin D because national organizations have yet to properly understand and recognize them.

I was keto for 5 years and the last year, I am mostly meat based. Probably 90% carnivore, and absolutely no seed oils. I have some green beans, onion, peppers, a little tomato, spaghetti squash once in a while. My vitamin d came back at 115 or so and my doc told me to quit taking vitamin D. I am like I don't take vitamin D. So he told me to quit taking cod liver oil because it had vitamin D. I did and my next reading came back at 121. I guess it is just naturally high. I have noticed I am around sick people coughing up a lung at work all the time, and I rarely catch any thing. If I do, it is just a little sniffle for a day or two, and I don't even need any meds. Plus I lost 200 lbs, I am no longer diabetic. I was severely diabetic before. On over 300 units of insulin a day with A1C's in the 14's. My knees have healed, my diabetic leg ulcers have gone away. And many other things.

My grandmother is Tibetan. She said back when she was very young in Tibet. She saw Tibetan doctors first before giving any traditional medicine, they would make people who are sick sit in the sun everyday and also ask the family to put their clothes and blankets out in the sun. Back then they may not know about, VD or K2 but at least they knew something.

Actually, they knew more than the people who think that oral intake of "vitamin D" is necessarily the equivalent of letting your skin do the job of converting 7-dehydrocholesterol (a cholesterol derivative) to cholecalciferol (AKA "vitamin D3") and releasing it directly into the bloodstream.

@@kevinl20082008 As I tried to say before (but was apparently censored for some reason), your grandmother actually knew more than those who currently believe that oral ingestion of "vitamin D" is equivalent to biosynthesis and release of this cholesterol derivative directly into the bloodstream by the skin. (As Professor Hollis indicated, your body regulates the production of the hormone calcitriol - the active metabolite of so-called "vitamin D" - through a negative feedback loop that is dependent on this endogenous process. Over-riding this mechanism would essentially be a pharmacological intervention that may or may not be appropriate in healthy individuals.

When I was a young girl, I remember seeing hospital patients sitting out in the sun. This is back in the late 60's/70's, when hospitals had balconies, and wards had doors leading out to the balconies. The patients were in their pj's, with a dressing gown, and wrapped in a hospital blanket. Ah, the good old days! When every patient had their own pj's. And they owned a dressing gown! But I digress! 😄 People sat (sit) in the sun because it feels good, whether you knew it or not! And now we do know! Pity hospitals don't have balconies anymore. If they did, maybe beds would be free-er sooner! 🤔

A good quality of Nettle tea is really good for arthritic. Then there's the mixing together of organic extra virgin coconut oil, tumeric, black pepper, and you can add a sweetener. A couple of tsp. or more per day (depending on your weight) of this combination is great for arthritic pain. The late Edgar Cayce whom was the Father of Holistic Medicine, also recommended peanut oil rubbed to be rubbed on the arthritic joints daily. Also, taking a a couple of teaspoons or more (depending on your weight) of olive oil each day. And lastly, drink a good eight glasses of water per day, as it lubricates the joints.

It kicked me back & I landed on my right shoulder. No broken bones but the shoulder came off and a orthopedic doctor told me to just go home and rest and let it heal. Well I did that and it took 1 1/2 years to heal but it still has 1.4cin gap. I don't want surgery due to my age and it is very hard to find a good orthopedic doctor for a senior. I do almost everything I can around here and even have 2 Siberian huskies that keep me walking every day. They are seniors,Thank God and don't stress me out. I have been hearing about vitamin D and I take V D3 every day. Am I taking the right vitamin. I pray I don't get cancer. I really respect you as a doctor and am glad I found you. God Bless❤😊

My anxiety and panic attacks have seem to fade almost 95% and I've also cut back on alcohol and only drink 1 day a week now. I got blood tests showing I was severely low in Vitamin D and now my new blood tests and lack of anxiety and panic attacks have proven it's working.

After I moved to Finland from Turkey, my life got crazy. As a healthy person, suddenly I developed many different sicknesses including terrible brain fog, food allergies, allergic asthma, heartburn, and so on. My blood sugar was like a roller coaster. And I was taking some vitamin d regularly. I spent thousands of Euros to doctors and they couldn't find any problem/cure for 5 years. One day I decided to increase the vitamin d dose by 3 fold. Most of my problems were gone in just 4 days. It is crazy. Since I take "high" dose vitamin d everyday, I didn't get sick. During covid, I went to office everyday. Nothing happened. And if I stop taking supplements, my health gets worse again in one week unless it is sunny in summer.I hesitate taking vitamin K with it. For two weeks, I took them together and had terrible constipation for 1 month. The doctor said I am taking too much vitamin D (10K daily), had a blood test. Everything was normal according to the test

I've suffered asthma and sinus blokages for years. Also many other allergies. I watched one of your videos some years ago re D3. I started at the rdi and gradually worked up to 10,000 iu. (+K2). I came off cpap and my asthma medications and my sinuses that were always blocked, now very rarely are. I had BPH and had aTurp, but still had to go onto Duodart. I ceased that and taking the saw palmetto and various other things and hoping the D3 will fix that too. I just turned 80. Recently learnt the importance of magnesium so have added that. I think drug companies do whatever they can to trash vitamins. Incidently I found taking at least 5000 iu at the onset of sciatica calmed it down in an hour or two. Keep up the good work Doctor Berg!

My last test 7mo ago showed my vit D is finally up to 65.3. So... it looks like I can still increase it and be fine! And by coincidence, I have an app with my GYN tomorrow. They're right I'm on 50ius (once a week) from my doctor. The other doctor just told me ensure you take vitamin D with food as well! I also take magnesium, potassium & zinc (not at the sametime)! Also vitamin k & b2 (boron)is important when taking d. My rare brain disease just came back on my testing last week as completely gone and all I've taken is what I just named & berberine! My optical nerves were extremely swollen before and they were talking about brain surgery!!!

I wish there would have been more discussion on also getting it naturally from the sun since that is truly free and comes with fresh air and exercise. So a “really pale person” can get 20,000 IU of Vit D in one day ( 20 minutes?) but does that also give you the magnesium? Please cover natural and supplementation in future. Very interesting subject. So many people blocking sun exposure due to fear of skin cancer. Then we get low D.
@kodowdus
@kodowdus Ай бұрын
Oral intake of "vitamin D" should not even be regarded as nutritional supplementation, as evidenced by the fact that "vitamin D" is not widely found in otherwise "well-balanced" human diets, and by the fact that the so-called dietary supplement "vitamin D2" (ergocalciferol) added to most cow milk substitutes is *not* identical to the "vitamin D" (cholecalciferol) produced in the human skin upon exposure to sunlight.
@davidwalz94
@davidwalz94 Ай бұрын
That does not give you the magnesium and in fact will deplete it. Ever felt kinda anxious after getting a lot of sun? Well, I have and that is because you are depleting magnesium and even Vitamin A afaik and that can definitely cause issues.
@kodowdus
@kodowdus Ай бұрын
@@infiniteinfinity9802 My original response to your post seems to have disappeared for some reason, but it had to do with the fact that many people seem to confuse oral "vitamin D" replacement with nutritional supplementation, and therefore completely miss out on the fact that a well-balanced lifestyle includes a healthy dose of sunlight exposure in addition to a healthy diet (which would naturally include large amounts of magnesium).
@Cheryl-tx2my
@Cheryl-tx2my Ай бұрын
No, you need to get magnesium from your food or supplement with it.
@kodowdus
@kodowdus Ай бұрын
@@Cheryl-tx2my The foods that are richest in magnesium are nuts, legumes, and vegetables. The trendy carnivorous diets guarantee that you would need to supplement with magnesium, but I would submit that a healthy diet would be rich in nuts, legumes, and vegetables and therefore wouldn't require supplementation.

So thankful for this amazing interview, Dr Berg. Everytime we had a bit of sunshine I was out sunbathing the most I could since we don't get many sunny days here in the UK so sticking to good quality high strength supplements providing Vit D3 and co factors is essential. Your work is always appreciated ❤😊

My Vitamin D level was pretty low. My doctor said it was fine and normal because i have darker skin. I decided to just buy myself some vitamin D. I am taking 1000iu because i wasn't sure about taking too much, but apparently, that's too little. This video is so helpful, I will go up a bit. I also need to fix my low ferritin levels so I will find some iron supplements as well.

Recently my doctor told me my Vit D levels in blood were too high (500) and to bring the levels down and stop supplementing (I did not tell her I took Dr Berg supplements), so I stopped my Dr Berg Vit D supplementation and I noticed recently MY HAIR STARTED TO FALL OUT in my sink and shower when brushing and shampooing. So I am resuming my Dr Berg Vit D supplementation. I remembered that was why I stated taking it in the first place! My hair. Thank you so much for the timeliness of this video!!!

Why are there people listening to Berg daily & then following "doctor's orders"? Does any of this information actually become integrated into a true understanding of holistic health? I'm gobsmacked by the number of people here quitting VitD3 because of hysterical, uninformed, poorly educated physicians. From 2003, I was so damaged by allopathic medical specialists, I found a naturopath (MD) and have not seen a "conventional: doctor since 2014.
