0:32 The dangers of sugar
0:45 Side effects of sugar consumption
10:05 How to recover after sugar consumption
15:28 Learn more about the dangerous effects of sugar!
Let’s talk about the dangers of consuming sugar.
Here are a few commonly-known dangers of sugar consumption:
• Weight gain
• Dental decay
• Fatty liver
• High cholesterol
• Acne
• High blood pressure
• Candida infections
• Lowered immunity
However, sugar affects the body in deeper ways. Many people don’t know that most diseases are metabolic diseases, and metabolic diseases are related to mitochondrial dysfunction.
A lot of things destroy the mitochondria, but sugar and foods that quickly turn into sugar, like carbohydrates, are at the top of the list.
The effects of sugar on the mitochondria in the cells can set your body up for a cascade of health issues.
How to improve your mitochondria:
1. Go on the ketogenic diet
2. Exercise (HIIT)
3. Try cold therapy
4. Do intermittent fasting
5. Try high-altitude training
6. Reduce stress
7. Get plenty of sleep
8. Avoid alcohol
9. Consume foods high in phytonutrients
10. Consume nutrient-dense foods

Stopped all sugar, vege oils and alcohol 8 months ago, focused on 75% carnivore, 4 to 6 eggs a day, beef, salmon, chicken and some pickled veg. Heavy cream, butter, tallow. Lost 12kg, no more gout, no more joint pain. Better mental clarity, mood. Those "reward" foods and most "recipes" are KILLING you folks! Literally. Just eat real food! It makes going out for food a challenge, but its worth it.

Oh my gosh. That happened to me! For 33 years I struggled with terrible breath no matter what I did. I brushed 3 times a day, frosted every day, did not use mouthwashes with alcohol and I would still have such bad breath that people would back away from me while I talked. I got to where I stopped hanging out with people because of the struggle with my death breath. It smelt like really strong poop. I would brush my tongue very well to wear it would look healthy and pink and even when I'd just drink water 30 minutes after, it would get white stuff all on it again. I went to a dentist for help and he recommended using a neti pot. I did so and it did nothing. My dad used to always pick on me and tell me how awful my breath was. He would say it outsold infront of people. That's when I realized how bad it was. When I would go on dates, I would have to carry a toothbrush and Toothpaste in my pocket and excuse myself every 30 minutes to go brush my teeth in secret. I also used a water flosser and a dentists hook every single day. STILL had poop breath. Well, I have been sugar and flour free for 58 days now and a miracle happened. For the first time in 33 years, my tongue is not developing white stuff and I don't even really need to brush my teeth anymore. I still do it because I like to, but my mouth feels clean even when I don't brush. Sometimes I even forget I didn't brush before I left the house. And my teeth always feels so smooth. I've been on the carnivore diet and it had helped my breath tremendously.

You did an amazing service to your children. Well done. Sugar is almost drug-like. It's actually not just the sugar floating around that destroys teeth and gums, it's insulin resistance and blood sugar. If a person eats lots of pasta, bread, fried potato in vege oil etc, they will find their teeth feel 'furry' by the days end. Whereas a person on a sustained diet of low carb or who is metabolically has much cleaner teeth and much more healthy gums.

I remember a "Health Yourself" class ~40 years ago at Fairfax Hospital. The man who gave us the class told us that sugar degrades the ability of the immune system to fight colds, flu, etc. That being so, the cold and flu season which runs from Fall through late Winter matches up quite well with Sugar Season which starts with Halloween candy, then pies, cakes and candies at Thanksgiving and Christmas then goes into Valentine's Day where millions of pounds of candy is consumed and lastly Easter candy rounds out the cold and flu disaster.

Since going Keto in February, I've lost 25 pounds, my blood pressure is down from 145/90 avg to 112/72 avg. My last glucose test was 81. I have more energy than I have in the last several years. I went on a field trip to an amusement park with my 18 year old daughter and her friends. They all crashed by 4:30 pm, but I kept going. I managed to conquer every roller coaster in the park, and thst was after hiking 5 miles the night before. If I do get a sweet craving, I have one square of 90% cacao chocolate with a little butter or a handful of berries and I'm good. Thanks to Dr. Berg and Dr. Berry for turning me on to this diet.

Dr. Berg continues to motivate ourselves to eat healthily. I cannot cut all the sugar now, but I consume it significantly less now. I used to eat candy bars and drink two liters of soda per day, and 2L of soda is like 200g of sucrose alone!now I avoid eating anything sugary if possible, and while I couldn't win over my soda addiction, I've cut it to one 0.5L can per day multiple times a week. I hope I can better myself and quit soda altogether, at least I'm trying! Never though sugar addiction is so strong within me. Even caffeine wasn't so hard after all.

It has been 2 years since I stopped consuming sugar, and the effects on my body have been incredibly positive. However, the beginning was very challenging. The first day without sugar was still okay, but by the second and third day, cravings for something sweet started to emerge. From day 4 to a week later, I experienced intense cravings, as if I really needed and wanted to eat something sweet. After getting through this withdrawal phase, everything gradually improved, and I noticed some significant changes in my body. I now feel full for a longer time, experience less fatigue from my daily job activities, and my mood has improved. Additionally, I have noticed that my skin is brighter (all the ladies will love this, lol). So, yeah, that's what happened to me, but it's important to note that the impact can vary from person to person.

Thank you, Dr. Berg, for shedding light on the hidden dangers of sugar. It's eye-opening to realize how much hidden sugar lurks in our everyday food. Many processed foods, condiments, and even seemingly healthy options can be loaded with hidden sugars, contributing to various health issues. It's important to read food labels carefully and be mindful of ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, or maltose. Educating ourselves about hidden sugars empowers us to make healthier choices. Your videos are truly enlightening and have been instrumental in improving my understanding of nutrition. @@tela2171 Thank you for your comment, Tela. We understand your perspective that sugar itself may not be dangerous in moderation, and it's indeed true that moderation plays a crucial role in our overall health. However, Dr. Berg's videos and the studies we have followed present the hidden dangers of excessive sugar consumption in our modern diet. While natural sugars found in whole fruits are accompanied by fiber and other beneficial nutrients, it's important to note that excessive consumption of even natural sugars can also have negative health effects. Dr. Berg's emphasis on reducing overall sugar intake, including both added and natural sugars, aligns with the goal of optimizing our health and preventing various health conditions. By raising awareness about the hidden sugars in our everyday food and encouraging mindful consumption, we aim to empower individuals to make informed choices for their well-being. It's always wise to consider the comprehensive body of evidence and expert opinions to make educated decisions about our health. I’ve been low carb, no sugar for two months and have lost 10 pounds. Thank you for that! I’m very happy about it. My problem is that I now get anxious thinking about having a treat. For instance, it’s rhubarb season and one of the best parts of my boring life is having rhubarb crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Both of which are big ol’ sugar bombs. We’re talking about 3 or 4 nights in a row of dessert. Stressing about this makes me feel like I have an eating disorder. Not really, but kinda. When you say “never want to eat sugar again” does that mean I “shouldn’t” eat sugar again. Somebody tell me it’s ok or even suggested that I should have sugar from time to time. Please lie to me…for the rhubarb/ice cream.

I love your content. Is there a video that supports what you can eat that doesn't turn into sugar. I can't imagine the list is long. I'm 58, very active, quit alcohol but struggle with belly fat and know sugar is the culprit. I need something that is sustainable.

You and others have convinced me that sugar and carbs (and snacking) are really the body’s villain. The more I cut it out, the healthier I get. I’ve lost 40 lbs, blood pressure is better, and stomach is so much better. Many thanks. Like I heard another say, I thought I was just getting old, but I was getting sick.

I’ve been a sugar addict my whole 50 years 😢. Don’t drink or smoke that’s been my vice . But with swollen sore joints inflammation and chronic fatigue I’ve cut out most all sugar and gluten. I still eat some but 99% off . People laugh when I say I’m a sugar addict because they don’t realize it’s a physical addiction and I’ve never been over weight 😳

I have M.E (mitochondrial failure). I grew up addicted to sugar and only stopped it when I became ill. There's lots of diabetes, dementia and cancer in my family. Poisoned by sugar. I know better now but I wish I knew this information before it was too late. Sugar addiction and refined carbs - pure poison. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. ❤

I'm knocking on 60 and have been doing fasting and cutting out almost all sugar, avoid bread and processed food.I work 12 to 14 hrs a day on my feet and run circles around the college kids I work with. Walk with wifey on the weekends. I never have any aches or pains and feel like I have more energy than in my 30's when I was still jogging. I plan to stay healthy during retirement so I may stay active. 😊

Unfortunately all of us younger folk have grown up on garbage food and have been sick all of our lives. I ate nothing but sugar and crap for the first 25 years of my life. Result was lyme disease at 25 and a rough time for 4 years until I finally cleaned up my diet. I'm 31 now and still healing from all those years of (ignorant) negligence, but it makes a huge difference.

Well I'd guess you grew up without microplastics/certain pesticides/hyper processed foods/synthetic oils and that's what most american college kids eat. Childhood obesity wasnt as widespread either. Still cool but definitely a low bar to measure against.

@@darkspice6339 I stick to meats (hamburger, & stew meat, salmon patties), vegies and big salads made with baby spinach (salad dressing made of apple cider vinegar, extra virgin olive oil & pink salt). I make a big pot of stew using turnips (not the green part, just the root), carrots, onions and celery, onion flakes, salt & pepper, boiled for a couple of hours in chicken broth & water. The stew lasts a good week, and I eat it with pickled artichoke hearts or red bell peppers.

Bars Dr Berg bars no punning here just you giving us gems of wisdom for us to abide by and see the correlation with sugars and disease go hand in hand. I’ve adopted a carnivore diet but not too much animal protein because we need to have portion control. Out here in LA theres this Korean BBQ chain called GENx i have been there long before subscribing to your channel like 2 years ago and those all you can eat buffet that’s alot of meat to batter the kidneys and liver. Soo much congestion!! By having one meal a day small tiny meals I have unlocked a heathy way of living that I have never embarked before and I’m 40 so. Now I look and feel amazing thanks to all your diligent informative life changing case studies and analysis.
