It cuts both ways. The Germans destroyed Coventry - once a beautiful medieval city.....now a brutalist s**thole. They bombed nearly all of our ports - Liverpool, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Glasgow, Hull, Southampton, Bristol, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and London. Yes, Berlin and Dresden were beautiful cities before WW2 - but so were Coventry, Plymouth, and Southampton to name a few. There is no honour in war. There are no good guys. Just good bad guys and bad bad guys. The British certainly weren't in the latter category....that's for sure.

When Coventry was blitzed Goering proudly announced a new term for the utter destruction of a city he said they would be “Coventrated” well thanks to the Luftwaffe the RAF learned the precise ratio of explosives to incendiaries to make a city burn & incidentally among the buildings bombed in Dresden was one belonging to I G Farben who manufactured Zyklon B which was used in the infamous gas chambers.

If you set aside the (supposed) quote from Churchill, the FACT is thousands upon thousands of civilian refugees from Breslau had just been evacuated to Dresden less than one month before when this happened. Breslau had as large a population as Dresden, both well over half a million each,...well the timing could not have been any worse for them. BTW, I have no trouble at all thinking that Bomber Harris wanted German civilians to be incinerated by the tens of thousands from the triple air raid over 2 days on Dresden. And this certainly would include women and children from Breslau and all over Silesia.

Wrong, On May 11, 1940, just after becoming prime minister, Winston Churchill ordered the bombing of the German city of Freiburg in the province of Baden. It was not until July 10, 1940 that German planes conducted their first raid over British soil. That date marked the debut of the Battle of Britain. For the most part during the Battle of Britain, German flying aces attacked enemy military targets but the British alternated raids on military objectives with air strikes against German cities. On Aug. 25, 26, and then the 29th, British planes shelled Berlin. Only on Sept. 7 did German planes begin regular raids on London.

Therefore military production and infrastructre remained largely intact in Germany until 1944 (when the Americans started to target factories and industries with day-light attacks).
