There was only ever one rude thing that happened to me it was at this retro ice cream shop, this teenage girl who was serving me and my kids at the time made a comment to another girl about how i was dressed(50s style) and made an eye roll and a rude faec. I just looked straight at her and stared until she realized I saw her and with a huge smile, I said HI! You must be having a bad day huh? She just was like, "uh, ya..." I didnt see anything after that. I never got rude comments to my face ever, I'd say whenever I go out 99% are always, wow I love your dress or wow you look so beautiful! I get alot of men saying its so nice to see a woman in a dress with her hair done. At first I felt realy uneasy about going out dress in vintage, but I have learned that most of the time rude stares are just jealousy that they dont commit the time to dress up and look nice. Im not going to stop living my life just because others dont have style and take the time to doll up.

The sweetest interaction I've had wearing vintage inspired outfit was at the bank. An elderly man told me how much I reminded him of his wife when they were young. They met when he was stationed in Italy. He got all teary eyed and said my dark hair was just like hers. 🥲 Another time when I donned a tophat and velvet jacket, I got patted on my cheek from another elderly man who said, "you make me smile just by being you!" I've also had random compliments and my picture taken :)

I very much relate to your feelings of having a negative inner monologue when it comes to dressing up. I'm still trying to figure out exactly which tone of 30s style I'm interested in dressing, and as a plus sized person, I have to make basically everything (or thrift some 80s and 90s clothes), so its been a very long process. I'm in Wisconsin so there aren't too many vintage fashion girlies out here, so I'm also worried about creepy comments from men. It hasn't really happened yet (perhaps because as a fat lady I tend to avoid most comments), but I wish I didn't have that socialized voice in my head constantly telling me, "don't you think you'll attract the wrong type of attention in that dress?" or "don't you look silly being all gussied up like that?"

Congrats on monetisation! I suppose for me dressing up has always been a dichotomy. On the one hand I’m terrified people will talk about me or comment, but on the other hand when I do dress up, I feel so incredibly powerful! Lol

For anyone getting a new (or new to you) sewing machine, there are affordable options with a stitch that looks like a zig-zag with a line above and a line below. It functions as close to a serger as possible on a regular machine with its one spool of thread - highly recommend.

Hey :-) So excited you answered the Purse question :-) I will have to look into those brands. I am getting more into smaller bags also. I carry a LV Neverfull tote but there is really no need to carry a bunch of stuff I never even take out during the day. On the Clothes issue I live in Florida and constantly get asked why I'm dressed up. I live in an area where people wear Jeans and T-shirts and I like to dress up. I don't call it dressing up because it's what I like to wear all the time, but they think I'm being snooty. I got asked last week if I was a schoolteacher which was weird. I dress Vintage 60's but mix it up with Preppy old money looking clothing. Loafers, Oxford shoes, and my favorite are Needlepoint Handmade loafers from Stubbs and Wootton in Palm beach. I love Vintage Shirts with the Cascading lace ruffle fronts with Midi or Maxi Cottage Core Skirts. I buy a lot of stuff from Great Scot. Have you looked or bought from them? Not vintage but they have great shirts with the big bows and tweed that I love with all the plaid. I could go on and on lol. Have a great day!!!!!!
