Lived in SD for decades and a Charger fan the entire time. Daniels and Brees are exactly correct, Herbert is not the problem (nor was Rivers, or Brees, or Marty Schottenheimer), or actually the defense--they are just a symptom of a systemic failure on the part of management--specifically, the owner(s), Spanos. Until Spanos sells the team they will never go to a Super Bowl, let alone win one, despite Herbert's phenomenal talent. Herbert is being wasted the same way Rivers was under Spanos, and the way so many talented players were under the same ownership. OWNERSHIP IS THE PROBLEM!

Fun breakdown guys. I feel for Herbert, he is trending towards that same territory Rivers was in with immense talent but a team that could never really put it all together. Herbert will most likely go on to break a ton of passing records but until the franchise changes course they'll continue to be mid.
@abriaangel99867 ай бұрын
I think he more talented that Rivers which probably makes it worse.
@gamesguitarsandcars7 ай бұрын
@@abriaangel9986 Physical talent definitely but I think Philip was better in certain aspects. I think his touch and anticipation was better than Herbo, mainly because it had to be since he didn't have the cannon arm. Rivers also edges ahead in pure football IQ I think, not saying Herbert wont get there though. So many stories of him telling defenders when they were lined up wrong for a play or saying exactly what they were going to do. Either way it sucks as a Chargers fan to have had these amazing QBs year after year (including Brees) yet have zero to show from it. I REALLY hope they can have that organizational breakthrough to cash in on the talent they've brought in. Would do my heart good to be on the winning side of things for a bit rather than they yearly heartbreak.

Actually, I want to know if Drew Brees thinks Justin Fields can become as good not better than Lamar, Jackson, same question to you, Chase, because I believe you can be, I believe you can be just as good, if not better than Lamar, Jackson, it’s just a matter of time and building that team around him… Because we did see some incredible passes, and we saw the grit and determination from Justin that I really wanted to see… We had no business losing that game, but that’s OK… The draft is more important for at least a year or two… so I’m good with that, adding one more win or two doesn’t do anything for this team, except for a little bit of praise, and but otherwise, in the long run, it doesn’t matter

JT O'Sullivan noted that Herbert missed quite a few throws and made things a bit harder then he needed to. There are certainly times where he should use some touch and he doesn't have it or use it. For example, that throw to Keenan near the sideline (the vertical route on 3rd down), he should have put more air under it. Thoughts?
@adamc17067 ай бұрын
I like JT but I think Drew Brees/ chase know a bit more about Herbo and being around him. He didn’t seem to have any comments on this game about him throwing too hard so I’d trust their knowledge more.
@shanevollmer127 ай бұрын
These guys put plays into context a little better, that play where Ekeler had a step on the wheel was a lower percentage throw than Keenan on the crosser which would have gone into Herbert’s decision on a crucial 3rd down. QB school spun it as a negative for some reason.
@BlazingShackles7 ай бұрын
So Herbert's not the problem. You guys are geniuses. Drew Brees knows what the real problem is, but he's not gonna tell us its Spanos cuz he wants to stay in the NFL as a commentator $$$. The league is really good at deflecting all criticisms down to the players and coaches when in fact the dysfunction in most teams can be tied directly to the owners.
@YDCFF_7 ай бұрын
Great job guys. The talking heads need to start studying tape instead of creating narratives for click bait. Justin is constantly having to try and carry this team because the defense can never get a stop when he needs one. Folks who associate Herbert with the team record know absolutely nothing about football. Entering this game, the Chargers OL had allowed the most pressures in the league. His defense is ranked 32nd against the pass. I watched Romo deal with having no running game for most of his career, run for his life behind a suspect OL, ball out, put up a bunch of points and lose because his defense was garbage. He always got the blame for the team record. Those 8-8 seasons would have been 1-15 with a lot of other QBs. Tony put that team on his back the way Justin is trying to do now.
