In part 6 of the 2 month road trip I stumble on to a stream that held crazy size browns. After dead fall over a forest service road forced me to turn around, I find a remote dispersed camping area and hike in to a small stream in Colorado. It was full of giant brown trout! And they were all willing to eat a dry fly. A bad fall near the end of the day nearly sent me to the hospital...luckily the branch that was headed towards my face hit the GoPro and broke the mount in my hat. But my shin wasn't so lucky. That injury still hasn't healed and its been over two months. The series will road trip across several western states (NM, CO, ID, WY and MT)...see the other parts below!
Part 1 - 2 month road trip - • Part 1 - 2 month campi...
Part 2 - A special stream was a surprise - • Truck Bed Camping and ...
Part 3- The craziest stream - • The CRAZIEST thing hap...
Part 4 - My favorite stream in Colorado - • Overlanding in Colorad...
My Truck bed build - • Video

Thanks for including all the ‘color’ of the areas you go, the scenery, the hikes, etc. not just fish after fish (which obv is cool too). Feels very natural. I’d only like to add that a quick look at the terminal line from indicator to fly w/b helpful before u start throwing flies. Anyway great job!

I swear I hadn't seen bears around fishing through there for 10 years, but the last 2 or 3 I've definitely seen them about. Love those summer days that you never have to change the fly and every run holds a quality fish. Get tired of the browns, go a little higher and scare up some brookies, get tired of brookies go a bit higher and scare up a few cutthroat! Rinse, repeat! Hope the flows hold, Ill be out there next month. Last fall the flows were terrible, they are looking great right now!

Streams that take some effort to get to and are brush choked don't get much fishing pressure. Hope you have an emergency beacon. With no one knowing where you are, you take a bad fall and break a leg, it could be a long crawl to get out.

I've used gopro since 2016 and been really happy with it. On the hero 8 now. Not perfect but for a grab n go, action camera it does the job! Not overly complicated, audio is good. Video/stabilization are really good and it's rugged! I have confidence it'll work or I wouldn't use it on 2 month off the grid trips!

I was pointing out my friend as to how you can tell where a colo man has been I told her run your fingers down my shin bone it's like a dull handsaw taken many a rock and such I recommend the arkansas river between canon city and cotopaxi this fall it will suprise you late September and October at this time you have a good chance of a 5 pounder or better and believe me the average will suprise you here's a tip on how to find a big one on their way to spawn in the shallow ripples the big fish travel through semi deep runs and when walking these you will see fish holding up to the bank instead of midstream and I discovered this phenomena after constantly seeing wounded fish up against the bank before hooking a big one in the riffles above these runs now I'm no expert at catching them I've lost every brown over 4lbs I've ever hooked on this stretch of river but I've hooked a few ! Another thing you'll notice if you do hook a big one mostly nocturnal the big browns in this river the backs and heads on them are a deep chocolate brown in comparison to the average which believe it or not is 13 inches these fish although gold on the sides and spotted nicely have a much more green tinted to them from exposure to sunlight! Although I love fly fishing at the aforementioned time of year I go equipped with a 5ft spinning rod open face reel couple hundred yards of belly 4lb extra limp and a bunch of panther Martin's concentrate on the big ripple stretches where it's a foot or less deep you'll have the time of your life predictive text made belly out of Berkley anyways good luck !
@danielcline7413
@danielcline7413 2 жыл бұрын
What I was trying to say these big browns knock the crap out of smaller fish on their way upstream I think when they hit them it ruptures their air bladders and you'll see them alive on top but struggling so if you start seeing scared fish up against the bank and hurt fish and your down below a set of long riffles there is probably a big brown in the riffles waiting to smash your spinner!

@@LooknFishy if you do decide to fish this stretch of river it's got a unused railroad track on the other side of the river runs all the way from leadville down to canon city lots of places you can wade across the reason I'm mentioning this is it sits above the river at an average of 15ft and you can get a great view into the riffles the fish are hard to spot but one of any size leaves a nice moving shadow on the bottom I never thought to ask if your from Colorado but if you are maybe I'll see you on the river just look for the hunchback I'm disabled with a spinal disease that has nearly bent me double no sympathy please god has put me a little closer to the water and I have a little less distance to fall when I do slip its put a small dent in my wading but hasn't stopped me from fishing the river I've drank and lived along my entire life!
