This is a new twist on "Old School" flexibility studies that focuses on ear training, air support, and building embouchure strength, especially in the corners!
*I'm using different audio and video equipment for this video*
Let me know what you think in the comments section!

Thanks for sharing this! Love these videos and your channel. I'd love to see a video sometime on how you approach the practice of F tuba and what kinds of exercises you do, if they are any different.

Hi, Chris! Thanks for continuing the Drill of the **______** KZfaq series. Perhaps you could display the individual notes on a bass staff on the screen as you list the pitches (showing the fingerings) and also as you play them starting from the low C and adding each pitch to the full series.

I’ll need to learn how to project some notation software on the video. Any ideas?
@owennc
@owennc 4 жыл бұрын
You can use a notation software to write out the exercise, and then use the window's "Snipping Tool" function to screenshot just the section you want, and then display that in the video.

I discovered a 5 year old Zoom 2HD video recorder in a moving box! I’ve been just using an iPad mini on a music stand! The Zoom is much better in my opinion and I just now need to learn better video editing practices...

Thanks for the video. The sound quality is good but the volume is quite low, I had to turn my speakers up all the way.

Hey Chris, I'm going to work on this with my 5/4 BBb Kanstul (4 valves). I'm going to try it with the same intervals/directions, as I always like a challenge. We'll see how that goes! One question I've wondered about your drills. Do you have a specific place you put them in your daily routine? For instance, this one might be perfect in the lip slurs location.
@cheers623
@cheers623 4 жыл бұрын
You’re correct, this would go whenever I start lip-slurs/flexibility studies. That changes daily, depending on how my chops feel on any given day. Hope that helps!

matt lombard Yes, gonna fix that next video. Probably bring everything up 30-50%. I’d re-upload but that takes 10-12 hours because my inter webs is slow as hell!

Any good Helleberg/Funnel Cup design should work well on the various York style horns.

Mr.Olka what would say is the “safe” amount of hours someone should practice? With my schedule it goes to 3 and sometimes 4 but I wanna make sure I am not over passing the line to a point where it would damage my chops instead of making them stronger
@cheers623
@cheers623 4 жыл бұрын
Max Tub , 2-3 hours a Day is optimal. But, sometimes one has to do more. Depends on schedule and repertoire. Just don’t make it a daily thing.
@Zeicon117

Chris Olka thank you so much! I use 1 to take a break some times 2 do you think that’s usually good or should I be taking 1 day of brake with some sight singing through the day?

Thanks for making videos and sharing your knowledge. I had pulled out my bronx billy club Deck mouthpiece just this week for fun. As far as what I think about the video my only critique would be that when you talk its a little bit too soft. It's not a huge deal but i do have to crank the volume up then back down a large amount when you start playing of course.
@cheers623
@cheers623 4 жыл бұрын
I had the same thought too. I'll be raising the volume on the talking for the next video if I continue to use the same equipment.

Do you have any personal experience/advice about embouchure injuries? I find it difficult to balance playing obligations with finding time to heal
@cheers623
@cheers623 4 жыл бұрын
I struggle with this on a regular basis almost year round. This whole Covid19 thing has actually been a bit of a healing period for me, with the time off from the orchestra.

Is there a version for a 4 valve Bb? Im currently waiting on a 5 valve C but i want to give this a go.
@cheers623
@cheers623 4 жыл бұрын
You can do this study on BBb but would just need to change directions in the study when getting into partial systems you can’t play without five valves. Hope that makes sense!
