My Premier Project Plans: paskmakes.com/premier-project...
My Free Plans: paskmakes.com/free-plans/
I've been managing for a few years now with one Drill Press Vice. This hasn't been ideal for use with both metalwork and woodwork. I use oil when I'm drilling steel and I'm not that careful with it, so when it comes to woodworking the oil and grime that accumulates ends up finding its way on to the wood. So I decided to make a second vice to use just for woodwork. It was an easy build and will come in very handy.
I could have made it in lots of different ways but decided to do it in the most simple way I could think of. I've found from my other recent projects that quite a few comments I receive lean towards the want for something simple, quick and easy to make. The good news - this all that's required for a great drill press vice. No need for any metal runners or ripping down hardwood, plywood is more than sufficient. Also I made it so no rebates needed cutting, the plywood pieces create the rebate when assembled. Also I've added a pdf with the dimensions I used. It can be found here paskmakes.com/plans/
I'm always happy to answer any questions.

Made one of these - works fine. I routed a "V" horizontally and vertically in the fixed block to hold dowels etc. I used plywood scraps left over from the Pask bench I made.

I tried this and had a great time building it. However, to anyone who wants to give this a go, a couple things to watch out for. @3:38, when you sink the nut into the wood, make sure its face is set completely parallel with the wood face. Any deviation will result in the screw rod being askew. Also, @6:23, make sure the screws you use at this point don't penetrate so far as to foul the washer-nut assembly. Mine did and ruined the center block so it had to be completely rebuilt. Love the channel!

The difficult thing about a home made drill vice is rotary grip plate at the end of the screw clamp. I have seen another video where a washer is split in half, attached over the narrowed part of the screw, and held down by another 4 ugly screws. Then there is the other video where a special wood dowel with double recessed holes and a complicated way of joining the end screw. The method used in your video is indeed unique and simple. Like.

i think there is a mistake in the video . before crushing the nots you have to put it threw the back back jaw (the one that we inserted the nots into with the chisel) otherwise you wouldnt be able to pass it threw after. i think u should have detail what type of rod (diameter), wascher and size of forsner bit u used. great video thank you
@PaskMakes
@PaskMakes 7 жыл бұрын
If you rewatch it you see in the shot before I crush the nuts I do screw it through the back jaw, it just happens to be out of shot when I crush the nuts. However on the second shot of crushing the nuts you can see it. I made an instructable that may help you out with the other info www.instructables.com/id/Homemade-Drill-Press-Vice/ Thanks for watching!

Couldn't help but notice. You're using the correct type of hammer to peen the rivet on the screw crank, but you're using the wrong end of the hammer head. It's called a Ball Peen hammer because the ball end is for Peening rivets.

would it not have been more ideal to lay the 2 fixed blocks flat (plys horizontal) so that you are not screwing into end grain? the moving jaw, I agree, is stronger the way you have it oriented (vertically).
