How well did this workout for you? Did the deer eat it all or did they leave most of it alone until they had food on it?

It ended up working great, you can check this plots update video from September, it should be in the food plot updates playlist. The deer didn’t browse it to bad in the summer and we had plenty of pods to get the deer throughout the winter. Although the pods are disappearing fast I think we will have enough to make it until late February.

what time of year did you start your project? Did you use a preemergent? Why didn't you use the cultivator more to break up the clods, easier to use push planter. Did you ever plant clover with your beans?
@wisconsinwhitetail9744
@wisconsinwhitetail9744 Жыл бұрын
Our soil has a very high clay content. That’s about as good as it will work up. There’s always going to clumps when working clay ground unless you have a rototiller. Planting clover with beans wouldn’t make any sense. The beans are going to canopy over and get 3-4ft tall shading out the young clover. The clover may come back in the following spring though.

Love all your videos. Sometimes they are hard for me to watch because the quality of video isn’t great. Seems like a really low frame rate or something. Not sure what your filming with but maybe think about a new camera or use your phone or something instead. It’s crazy how much hard work you put into this planting beans with a push planter. I hope it all pays off for you this fall.

This video uploaded poorly for some reason. I didn’t get a chance to view the Video after uploading it this morning. Sometimes the quality is bad for the first 10-30 mins and then it smooths out but this video is still bad quality. I agree it’s hard to watch. I will try my best to not let this happen again.

Wisconsin Whitetail It seems to be like that in a lot of your videos. I don’t notice it in other people’s that’s why I mentioned it. Your content definitely outweighs the quality issues though. Good stuff.

Yeah it’s nice and definitely the easiest, but unfortunately we don’t have a no till drill, so we will be tilling in the future for corn and beans. I will continue to no till Brassicas and some soybeans though.

How long would it take to plant an acre or maybe a half an acre of soybeans?
@wisconsinwhitetail9744
@wisconsinwhitetail9744 4 жыл бұрын
Hand drilling like this a 1/2 acre would probably take around 1-2 hours, the area I did in the video is almost 1/2 acre. And I think it took around 2 hrs. And acre would be a lot but doable. Broadcasting works to but you really have to put a lot of seed down to get good germination. I hand drilled them because we have had some kinda thin plots in the past when Broadcasting. Although may be better in a larger plot and the you could drill in 30-40 rows mixed with the broadcasting for backup. LOL

You definitely could rig something up like that. The only thing is they are $75-$150 new and hard to find used in good condition. Might as well just buy and old 2 row planter.

planter does have quirks. l have used baby powder for seed lubricant. worked better. also used self stick foam pads in hopper to encourage seed pickup on trailing side of plate to avoid crushing beans. used napa 3L260W belt for replacement.
