Improve dust collection on your drill press with the Drillnado.
This week I want to share some information on the Drillnado. This attachment is a dust collection device that attaches to your drill press and is a very affordable way to add dust collection to your drill press.

Thanks for the overview. I’ve been intrigued since I saw it in your shop tour with Jay Bates. Looks really good but as you point out, could benefit from having a longer concertina for longer bits so that it makes contact but certainly much better than without it at all.

Hey Jason, just wanted to pass on a big thank you! I ordered my Drillnado via your link after watching your video and it literally arrived about an hour ago. Less than a week from ordering to arrival in London. Not bad at all. It’s already fitted and as you say, it is VERY effective! Thank you again for the recommendation.... 👍🏻

I agree 100%. I bought mine approx 5-6 years ago at a woodworking show near me and have used it ever since. I must have bought the XL because I have lots of those white collapsing sleeves in different sizes. Have to say that I only use one on a regular basis. Save yourself the $10 difference in the price and get the $50 model. I watched this video because I wanted to see someone else’s opinion on this product and see how they install and use it. Super easy just like in the video. Thanks for sharing.

Dust extraction requires air movement. I think I would put gaps or some type of relief cuts in the bottom of the clear plastic guard that way as it bottoms out you won’t lose suction. Just a thought. Thanks for the video.

There seems to be a misconception about vacuums in that the tighter the seal the better but without airflow the dust just lays there in a total vacuum.

Bent's Woodworking I’m stuck in myrtle beach working lol, maybe next weekend, I do have one question? I think I have limited shop space, 20x15 maybe a little bigger. I’m finally looking into a band saw and I’ve had my eye one the Rikon 10-306, is it going to hurt me in the long run getting a benchtop and not a floor model with more power?

Mommaz Boyz I have heard nice things about that saw. I don’t think band saws really take up a ton of space. That isn’t a bad size space either. Mine isn’t much larger

Thanks for this video. So from what I can tell, it looks like you drill the hole, dust still sits around the area of the hole and close to the edge of the drill nado and it is not all picked up. Not expecting 100% either. However, once you drill the 2nd hole, you are pickup up the excess dust from the previous hole that was drilled. This means if I have one hole to drill, I would have to essentially double dip the drill nado to really get the most dust collection. I am not complaining either. Just something I noticed. In one part of the video I see the suction actually raises the piece of wood so there is good suction. It is doing a great job as the before holes generated a lot of chips so much so that you can't see the next hole. Great video.

A good video Jason. I have a Drillnado on my drill press and am very happy with. After watching your video I did get the type of hose you used and it works a lot better. The hose is lighter and holds it shape and doesn’t sag as you stated. At the 11:07 mark over your right shoulder appears to be an Incra router table and fence. Do you have a video on that? I am getting ready to upgrade my router table and that is the one I am interested in. Any comments or thoughts on that table and fence? Thanks for your time. Ron

That is a GREAT invention!! But I see a problem in the video. The clear plastic is sealing to the work piece, creating a vacuum. Without airflow the debris can't be drawn into the dust collection system. I would cut about 8 evenly spaced slots around bottom of the clear plastic 'view port' piece to allow airflow. This will greatly improve the debris pick-up. I'd say making the slots about 1/4" tall by 1/8" wide would do nicely. Thank you for introducing this great tool add-on!!

Excellent dust collection! I noticed that the Drillnado sucked up any residual debris from the last hole drilled just before the drill bit began cutting the next hole. I think if you wanted to get rid of every last bit of debris you could lower the drill bit a second time. If needed, you could turn off the drill press, while leaving the dust collection on, should there be any concern that re-drilling a hole would accidentally enlarge it.
@bentswoodworking
@bentswoodworking 5 жыл бұрын
Garry Holmberg that’s a good idea. Someone else also recommended drilling a few holes in the clear plastic piece to allow continued airflow instead of creating the seal. I may toy around with it and see how I can get it even better.

Hello, jus started watching your videos recently and have enjoyed them...quick question, I’ve been to some of the Baltimore-Washington area shows and they’re not what they used to be....did you find the Atlanta show to be worth it for woodworker/cabinetmaker types? Was that the IWF your talking about? Thanks for your time and videos!
@bentswoodworking
@bentswoodworking 5 жыл бұрын
Cabinet03 I will admit I think the woodworking show in ATL has really fallen off the last couple years. I saw everything I wanted to in about an hour. Now if you want to sit in a few classes then I think it’s beneficial. IWF is a mega woodworking show. I have not been but plan on going in the future
@Cabinet03

The reason I asked was I am an specialty cabinetmaker, (for an executive aircraft company ) but in my personal shop I’m more perhaps on your level. I’m about to take a chunk out of my retirement savings and invest in some tools on you “our” level to continue this passion into retirement. I am by no mean commercial/industrial so I’m searching for show where I can see equipment and new stuff for guys like us....used to be 20/25 years ago, you could go to really most any show and see machinery and all the new tool and doodads, and you’d be drooling the whole time. Those were the days. Thank you for taking the time! I’m wondering if IWF is just fo the big guys, or or guys like us too?
