Vinous dinner at restaurant Karel V on March 29, 2020 in Utrecht, The Netherlands starting with three great wines: Le Petit Mouton Rothschild 2010 (Wine Spectator (WS) 91 points), an Opus One 2014 (James Suckling 97 and WS 93) and an amazing Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2016 (Robert Parker / James Suckling/ Jeb Dunnuck all 100/100). Then followed by a Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1964 (WS84 but was 90+) and at dessert the legendary Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1945. Rated 100/100 points by Wine Spectator.

He used a regular corkscrew.. I knew that cork was going to be fucked before he opened it.

Well, that was dull. Learned nothing, heard no commentary on the condition of the wine (used the wrong tool for opening an old wine), nor anything of any real value. From the look of the sediment in the glass not only was the wrong extractor used but the decanting was a failure. Who are these guys? By the way, quoting ratings from the Wine Expectorator & James SUCKling is pointless; they are not qualified to rate milk, as they have proven over & over again over the last 30+ years.

Why dont you buy one and review that yourself..The way you are explaining ,seems like no one else could review it better…

@@jamal5795 One would think that you had some feelings about the '45; they were not offered. Lots of pretty video, though. At the very least quote Broadbent; no better definition of the '45 has ever been written. Next time.

In fact, you are right. No one could...except Broadbent. That being said, would you like my review? No charge. By the way, I am not wrong here; there is nothing to be learned from this video other than someone is showing that we're not there. @@jamal5795

Care to share any thoughts on the wine? You certainly had quite a nice line up to compare it to.

Ever use a durand? It seems like a better way to preserve your sanity with ancient corks.

Agree, however the restaurant didn’t have one.

Was it filtered before consuming? Was it decanted? What an amazing experience! I would have loved to hear a sommelier give a description!

Not filtered nor decanted. See minute 3.14. An old wine like this degrades fast after opening so decanting or filtering would have destroyed it.

@@ultrafinewine Not true, it just should not be decanted for long. Had 50+ wines from before WW2 and 75-80% were still good. All but 2 or 3 were decanted and then prompted served blind and without the ullage at the bottom.

you'd think for a wine like this there would be something more sophisticated than a simple corkscrew!

I have one bottle of 45 in my collection. That and the 47 Cheval Blanc are the two greats I never got to taste though I owned both at one time.
