You probably have a few trillions bacteria in your intestine... If there weren't any microbes at all on the planet we would probably die because some germs are essential for our every day lives... Drinking water usually contains a lot of microbes even if it has been treated chemically, some germs survive... Very few germ species cause disease... Most likely around 1% of bacteria species can (potentially) cause disease... but even pathogenic bacteria are usually "defeated" by the immune system before growing in such numbers that can cause disease.

@heath6969
@heath6969 4 жыл бұрын
@@goofectasruhxyodfrointe2160 Why no, does being conscious make his analogy wrong? Also being conscious is only a man made term. Every living organism has its own way to live and multiply. For example ants. Ants make tunnels, transport foods to there and store them for winter. Being conscious is just some survival feature of humans, why would it make us any different from microbes or any other organism? It's function is to help us to be more powerful than other species, like a lion being more powerful than zebra. Those microbes and all other organisms are similar to robots we make, like us. Among the single cell organisms the best fitting ones lived and multiplied. We are literally macro-organisms that are made from little cells that work together. If you would think the size of universe and things we don't know what he says pretty much makes sense. Also it's completely possible that there are species in the universe that our minds cannot even comprehend. That they would be so intelligent that they wouldn't see us any different from we see ants. Can ant see humans and comprehend human things, no? They are only focused to their work, stocking, tunneling, storage etc etc. So if even there would be that those things that are too much intelligent than us we wouldn't comprehend them like ants do not comprehend us. So every living thing has its own "consciousness". So don't ever think we are too different from microbes or some microorganism in the universe level. Thank you for reading my composition lmao.
@goofectasruhxyodfrointe2160
@goofectasruhxyodfrointe2160 4 жыл бұрын
@@heath6969 It does. The main point here is the universe is so big and we are merely some organisms that have no significant position in the universe, just like microbes. Firstly, main instrument with which you reach that conclusion is your own conscious rationality. The universe is as big as you understand it, humans are as unimportant as you can know how important things can be. You say we are not important, what would make us important then? If you can't answer this question, that means you cannot know how unimportant we are. Secondly, saying that we are microbes is reductivism. I am aware it's just a casual comment but it assumes that there's always a higher realm of existence that we can't perceive. This wouldn't be a problem itself but when you think you can compare your own existence with it, that's not possible and microbes don't try to do this. We are conscious beings that are trying to find answers for unanswerable questions. This kind of thoughts claim they've found the answer.

I did a relatively similar experience and I couldn’t get growth from a drop, but by vacuum filtering about half a litre of tap water through a fine microbial mesh I managed to get a significant microbial growth which probably came from biofilms as there is biofilm in most canalization. In the course of this experiment we also filtered through bottled water and also got bacterial growth. I guess what I am getting at is if you wanna observe the bacteria found in drinking water you need to artificially increase their concentration as it is nowhere near low enough to be seen by just looking with a microscope (I mean if it was I don’t think it would be deemed as safe for consumption). It’s been a couple of years so I don’t remember the details of it all, could dig up the results of the project if anyone’s interested. Don’t get scared, bacteria doesn’t mean dangerous, bacteria colonize every inch of your skin, mouth, intestinal pathway, lungs and pretty much every place exposed to the outside. Without them we would be mush more susceptible to pathogens and our digestive tract would be less effective. A more divers microbiota is usually a sign of health in a human. We are all one with microbes, one big walking ecosystem.

Wow, you received requests from your viewers and you delivered. Thank you for that, as I was interested. In the country where I live in right now tap water is pretty dirty. The sterelising procedure is not as good as that of the US. Though wouldn't bottle water be healthier? As it doesn't has debris like we saw in tap water?
@sci-inspi
@sci-inspi 5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the water source, so it is more of a case by case scenario. The debris I filmed could have came from anywhere,the air, the slide, the cover-glass etc.

You should look at beer under a microscope. Preferably an unfiltered and unpasteurized craft beer (Bell's Two Hearted is widely available and is native to my home state of Michigan) I recommend a beer such as that because they should contain live yeast that you can culture and reuse. You could compare this to a control beer such as Bud Light or something of that sort. That might be interesting. Awesome video btw!
