This is a superior song all around. It sounds to my ears like a great late Replacements song. Smart lyrics and a real world weariness to the vocals. Clever arrangement, too. I only just came cross this on the radio. Which does still exist. Left of the Dial.

@@1vtbear Hmmm..... I own everything they've done. I even own an autographed copy of Hood's "Heat Lightning...". (I, also, own everything Jason's done.) I've seen em 5x and PH, solo, once. I've been a fan for almost 20 years. For a long time I thought they were the greatest band in America, perhaps the world. I use to make DBT cds for friends in an effort to get em to go to their shows w/ me. When I'd go to their homes unexpectedly, sometimes they'd be jamming to them. I got several of my friends to buy tickets and go to the shows this way. Now, none of them any longer listen to them. There's no way they'll go to their shows anymore. However, it doesn't matter. They no longer play here in the Cincinnati area. I'm sure it's because they can't sell enough tickets anymore. It's a shame because those old shows were epic! My friends and I must not be the only ones feeling like they are watered down soup now. Enjoy your Pat and Mike guitar pull. I will always play classic DBT and I'm sure I'll like a couple songs from the new release. However, their reign, in my eyes, as a great band is over. I'll buy it and might even drive the 100 miles to see them. I might have to go by myself, tho.

@unclechaos274 жыл бұрын
Patrick Barry why listen? Maybe because I’m interested in hearing new music from a band I once loved. Maybe there is a part of me that hoped to hear them release new music that made me want to go rock out to them live again. Maybe I’m not a millennial hipster who jumped on the band wagon when they heard American Band and I actually have the ability to be objective and recognize when a band has nothing left to say and they become puppets of the liberal media. Maybe it’s my fucking choice to listen and leave my 2 cents. Good enough for you?
@chadbeermann27444 жыл бұрын
DBT have always been liberal. One only needs to listen to their lyrics to grasp this. In the Isbell era, and before.
@unclechaos274 жыл бұрын
Chad Beermann yes that is common knowledge to anybody who knows anything about truckers. But never in their history have they so blatantly expressed their opinion on current events in their lyrics like on American band. That doesn’t make for good music, that’s what you resort to when your creative juices start running dry. There is no other album in their catalog that comes close to the regurgitated liberal talking points found on American band. SRO spoke of racism in the past, also incorporated the spirit of being young and rocking out. DS spoke of the hard ships people were experiencing while the government blows money on rocket ships, yet during the Reagan administration. Never have they come out to support BS movements like BLM. They went full retard.

This band is listed right at the top so i thought i'd take a look to see just how bad, this was the comment: It was chock full of monumental suck-age. All of them were swinging their own individual bottles of liquor onstage, but it didn’t seem to help. The show was so atrocious we left shortly after they took the stage. I found their performance to be much more offensive than the Black Lives Matter poster they were sporting on stage. Wow. This might be the first DBT record I don’t buy. I hope this isn’t representative of what the whole record will be like. This is almost unlistenable. I really dislike the songwriting direction Patterson has taken since American Band (the worst outing in their catalogue by a wide margin, in my opinion). These lyrics seem like the first draft of an idea sketched out in a notebook and then immediately recorded.
@Aaronlm914 жыл бұрын
Alright. Don't buy it then.
@BlacqueJacqueShellacque_4 жыл бұрын
I would mostly agree. I have not enjoyed the direction they are moving in. The songs aren't horrible, but they certainly are not as interesting as their past work. That being said, it's understandable that Patterson and Mike aren't going to continue to write the same type of song after all these years. Artists need to evolve. Unfortunately they aren't evolving in a way I enjoy. I'll still go see them live, and I'll probably still buy this because I still want to support a band that I've loved for 15+ years, but I'm not expecting to like it as much as something like The Dirty South.
@brandonb26234 жыл бұрын
¡Mike B! Agreed. You said it more eloquently than I did. I think the strength of this band has always been third-person narrative-based songwriting with strong lyrics. These lyrics are so bad to almost be called vapid. It is even reflected in the way this ‘lyric video’ seems to have been slapped together. What the hell is this?? This would be a B- middle school power point project.
@jonstalnaker214 жыл бұрын
I really liked American band after I watched a video where they track by track to explain the songs. And their live show supporting the record has been my favorite so far, butthis song definitely didn't strike me as anything special. The lyrics definitely are over my head and the music I feel is mediocre by their standards. Kind of reminds me of what Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam said about writing music over the years, you quit trying to impress anyone and just write stuff that is easy to play live.
